The Beginning

Looking at the fat on his body and at the scale showing 145kg, Alan sighed. There had been a time when he was strong and healthy, but after being hit by depression due to his parents both dying in an accident, he had been staying in his room playing video games for 3 straight years, never leaving his room.

However, as he looked at his body and sighed, he became determined, he was 19 years old, yet he had never had a girlfriend, had no friends and he was beginning to get health problems because of his weight.

Walking off the scale, Alan exited his bathroom and entered his dark room, turning on the lights, he saw trash littering the room, he sighed once more, he would have to clean up when he came home.

He grabbed a grey shirt, black pants, and black socks from his closet and put them on. After dressing up, Alan put on some shoes, grabbed his keys, and left his apartment.

After locking the door behind him, he went down the stairs and entered the outside world.

As it was 9pm, it was quite dark and chilly outside, however, this was his favorite weather, he loved the cold. After doing some stretches, Alan started walking.

His goal today was to walk at least 1km before going back home. But it wasn’t easy, after 100 meters, his back, feet, and legs started to hurt, and he was starting to pant.

It was crazy, when he was young, he could run a mile before becoming tired, but now, just slowly walking 100 meters got him out of breath. He cried a little on the inside, but he decided to not give up.

After another 300 meters, he had to take a pause, his whole body had started to hurt, and his lungs felt as if they were about to collapse. Sitting down, Alan wiped the sweat off his forehead and smiled.

This had been the first time in 3 years that he had left the apartment to just exercise, while he did shop for food occasionally, he only had to walk 50 meters for that, as the store was close-by.

This had also been the first time in 3 years that he had walked more than 100 meters. Even though the pain throughout his body was immense, he also felt a sense of satisfaction.

There wasn’t only bad pain either, before taking the pause, he had started to feel good pain, it was hard to explain, but he loved that feeling. After resting for two minutes, Alan got up and started to walk again.

This time, he decided to not take any more breaks, even if he felt like dying, and as such, he kept walking, and walking, and walking…

1000 meters later, he finally arrived home, he felt like death. He quickly lied down in his bathtub and turned-on cold water. As the cold water started to cover his body, he smiled.

Today had been great, he had accomplished what he couldn’t for 3 years, he had gone outside and walked, if he could keep this up, he was sure that he would lose a lot of weight.

After chilling in the water for thirty minutes, Alan got up, dried himself and lied down in his bed. Today had been great, as he fell asleep, a smile could be seen on Alan’s face. As he woke up, Alan could feel his body in pain, turns out, when you use your muscles too much, they end up hurting, A LOT! Looking at the clock, he saw that it was only 11 am, he contemplated whether he should wake up now, or sleep until 3 pm.

He decided to wake up. After putting on some new clothes, he ate breakfast and brushed his teeth, after a bit of thinking he came up with an idea to stay motivated, he thought that the best way would be to have a stable schedule.

Picking up an old notebook, he wrote a schedule, on it, he wrote times he would workout, do martial arts, read, eat, etc. After finishing up, he looked at the schedule and smiled, he decided to not play any games, as that would just make him lose motivation to do any of these things. He ripped out the page where wrote his schedule and put in on his fridge using a magnet. This way, he would never lose it. After finishing up, Alan looked at his phone.

It was Tuesday October 9th, 2025, and the time was 10:45. He let out a big grin, he was so happy, he had a schedule, and he had the motivation to follow it!

It has been 5 months since Alan started his routine, and within these few months he has lost 30kg. He now weighed 115kg. He also decided to measure his height as he was curious as to how tall he was. After he measured himself, he found that he was 183cm tall.

He has also learned some basic martial arts such as boxing and karate, however, as he has only been practicing for 5 months, he wasn’t very good.

He also changed his training regime, he now walked 10km, did 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and 500 jumping jacks every day. He had also bought weights, resulting in him lifting every day.

After another 6 months of hard work, Alan’s body was now close to perfection, his legs and arms were huge, and he now had abs. His body was great. After admiring his body, he started to read a book.

4 years later.

Somewhere in South Africa: Even with the blazing sun, he swung, and stabbed with his spear, even though he was exhausted, he kept it up.

Alan had been swinging and stabbing with his spear for 20 hours straight, only taking small pauses every now and then to consume food and water.

It must have been three years ago that he had fallen in love with the art of using a spear in combat, and as he did, he knew it was his calling. After buying a spear and watching tutorials on the internet, he had started to swing.

However, the techniques people used felt unpolished and were uncomfortable to use, so for the past 2 years, he had been making his very own spear-technique, he called it “Humble-Spear”.

He knew it would take many more years to fine-tune it, but he was satisfied with it so far.

Looking at the spear in his hands he sighed, he really wanted a new spear, the one he was currently using was a cheap one that he had bought three years ago. He needed a real spear, and as such, he decided to take up smithing.

Smithing had been one of the many things that he had always wanted to do ever since he was a child. Looking at the sky, he smiled, it was finally time for something new and exciting, sure, he loved training and swinging his spear, but it never hurt to pick up new talents and skills.

After a small break, he stretched and started to jog towards the city.

Turns out that smithing is an expensive thing to pick up. He had to splurge more than half his savings to buy everything that he needed, it was only after buying everything and setting everything up in the warehouse he rented that he realized a huge problem.

Smithing was harder than he thought. Even after watching multiple videos and reading books about smithing, he couldn’t even make a dagger. Whatever he made just turned into useless junk.

After falling into despair for a whole two seconds, he slapped his face and realized how dumb he was, all he needed to do was to hire a teacher…

..

….

5 months later.

It was truly a mistake to pick up smithing. It had been a whole 5 months, yet Alan had nothing to show for it. Turns out that he had no talent for smithing, even his teacher had commented on this, saying “In all my years of teaching, I have never met someone as untalented as you. You have zero potential and should quit while you’re ahead.” He had then left and told Alan to never contact him ever again…

His childhood dreams were shattered, and he cried for a solid 20 seconds. After wiping the tears off his face, Alan sighed and picked up his spear, and went out to work on his spear technique.

….

..

5 years later.

As the years passed and Alan became stronger, he noticed that his body was changing too. His body which used to be full of bulging muscles was becoming more compact. His muscles were becoming smaller, yet his strength was only increasing.

Looking at the numbers showing on the scale, Alan became confused. The numbers did not make sense, why was it showing [135kg]? He wasn’t fat, and his body had even become slimmer than before.

As these thoughts ran through his head, Alan realized why he weighed this much.

While he was indeed slimmer than before, his body had become more compact, his muscles had become denser, resulting in his muscles becoming smaller but stronger.

This is to say, he had never heard of a case like this. He had researched many ways to become stronger ever since he was fat. Yet he had never heard of muscles becoming denser and compact as a human’s strength went up.

Alan sighed, there was no point in pondering over these small details. He had become stronger, that was all that mattered. But it seemed that he was slowly overcoming human limits.

After walking off the scale, Alan looked at the spear that was hanging on the wall and smiled. He had really grown fond of it, after having abused it for so many years, it had become really worn.

But there really was no spear that could beat it. He had tried to use other spears, but none of them felt right, so he had always gone back to using the spear had bought at the start.

Even though the spear was no longer sharp, and had become as dull as a butterknife, he loved it. After admiring the beauty on the wall, Alan left his home to get a job as he no longer had money. The inheritance money from his parents had run out.

As Alan was walking outside while pondering on what job to take on, he suddenly heard someone screaming for help. Looking towards the direction of the screams, Alan saw something he had only ever seen in games.

“An orc?” That’s right, there was a fucking orc in front of him! While many people would be terrified in the face of an orc, Alan only had one reaction. HAPPINESS!

His life had become stagnant and repetitive, sure, becoming strong was fun. But doing the same thing every day for almost 10 years, you get bored.

A huge grin appeared on Alan; he could feel his blood boil. Adrenaline filled his body, and he could feel himself becoming stronger. It had been many years since he last felt the rush of adrenaline.

Alan looked at the huge body of the orc. Its height looked to be about 260cm and if he had to guess, it weighed about 300kg? But he was confident. While Alan had indeed not fought for many years, he was confident that he could beat the orc even without his spear.

Alan sprung forward, rushing towards the orc. As if feeling his killing intent, the orc turned around and met Alan’s eyes. As Alan arrived in front of the orc, it threw a punch towards him.

But he didn’t dodge, instead, he met it with a punch of his own. As their fists connected, Alan smiled. He could feel the numbness in his fist, it felt like he was punching a tree, yet he only became more excited.

The smile on his face only became larger, and his eyes were filled with bloodthirst and passion. The orc knew that the human in front of it was weaker than itself, yet it started to feel fear.

Angered by the fact that it feared the human, it started to send a barrage of fists towards Alan. Yet, instead of dodging the incoming attack, he traded blows with the orc.

As they traded blows, both Alan and the orc started to become more and more injured. Alan, however, did not even notice that he was hurt. He was in a world of his own, he had never been this happy.

As they continued to trade blows, the orc started to feel more and more afraid of Alan, both of them had become gravely injured, yet the light in Alan’s eyes had only become brighter, and the fierceness of his hits had increased.

It was as if the human in front of it did not fear death- No, it was as if the human knew that it wouldn’t lose.

After trading blows for a whole 10 minutes, the orc finally fell after receiving a hit to the face. Yet, Alan didn’t stop hitting the orc, it was only after another 30 seconds that he realized that it was dead.

Sitting down on the dead orc’s back, he smiled. He went all out, yet it took hundreds of blows for him to kill it. Just as he was enjoying his victory, and his adrenaline levels were returning to normal, he felt a sudden urge to puke.

As he puked, all he could see was blood. “Ah, I suppose it only makes sense for this to happen, *cough, cough* It was a well-fought battle.” As Alan muttered these words, he could feel his strength leaving him.

Alan’s breathing became more and more shallow, with each breath, the weaker it became, until it stopped. Alan’s last thoughts were ‘It really was a shitty, but enjoyable life, thank you for this battle, orc.’
