Reborn

“Hmm, I thought I died, but here I am, alive…” As soon as he had lost his life, he had suddenly woken up on a gravel path in the middle of a forest. He couldn’t recognize his surroundings, but one thing was for sure.

“Three moons huh, I suppose this is another world. It can’t be reincarnation, can it? Since I still have my old body… I got revived, but in another world?” The three moons all had different colors, red, green, and blue.

As he stared at the three moons, Alan suddenly felt a strong urge to get back to his home planet, Earth.

“I wonder if there are other humans in this world, and what was up with that orc? Why was there an orc back on Earth? I suppose I’ll only find out if I get back home.”

Alan decided to take a break. He had been walking for a full 3 hours, yet the scene was the same, gravel road leading to the unknown, and to his left and right there were heavy shrubs and trees.

After sitting down on the gravel road, Alan started going over his situation. It was getting serious, without any food or water, he would die within 4 days. So, his main mission right now was to secure a stable source of water and food.

“Hmm, I’m in quite a pickle, as one might say, hahahaha!”

Staring at the gravel road in front of him, he slapped his face and turned towards the heavy woods, and he took a leap of faith. As he jumped towards the shrubs, Alan could feel eyes on him, something with malice was watching him.

But no matter where he looked, he couldn’t find the source of the gaze. Alan gave up, it’s not like it’s important, all he had to do was to wait for the enemy to stop hiding.

So, he kept walking, through the uncharted forests, and then he kept walking, and walking, and walking, and he even walked some more, until finally, the gaze of malice disappeared.

In its wake, a small white bunny appeared. It had pure red eyes, and it was wielding a dagger. When Alan looked at the creature, he couldn’t help but laugh.

‘“First, I wake up in another world, and now there’s a knife-wielding bunny? Now, that’s sic-?!”

Before he could finish his sentence, the leaped towards him and slashed with its dagger. While Alan did indeed manage to barely block the attack using his forearms as a shield, they attack still left a huge wound on him.

The pain was, intense. It was the first time he had ever been attacked by a sharp object, and the pain was similar to a papercut, just 100 times worse. Alan could feel excitement fill him.

First, he got to fight with a strong-armed orc, and now he gets to fight an agile bunny wielding a dagger. Could it get any better?

As adrenaline started to fill him, and his strength rose, Alan gave out a vicious smile and rushed towards the bunny. But it was no use, it just kept dodging all of his attacks, and every time it did, it would counter with a slash of its dagger, resulting in deep cuts.

Alan was covered with blood; he had not been able to land a single hit on the bunny. But he had yet to give up, all he needed was one solid hit to land and it would die.

The opportunity finally arrived, the bunny attacked and managed to make a deep wound on his right arm, however, just as it was about to retreat again, Alan managed to grab one of its legs.

Using all his strength, he smashed the bunny into the ground, its head exploded into bits, resulting in instant death. This fight had been an amazing experience, sure, he was barely able to keep his eyes open due to blood loss, but he felt better than ever.

Alan grabbed the dagger that the bunny had been using and observed it. The dagger was colored red with his blood, if he had to guess, its length was about 30cm and about 10cm wide.

After pocketing the dagger, Alan looked at the remains of the bunny, while its head had been crushed, its body was perfectly fine. Food had been secured, but he still needed water.

As he was thinking of how to cook the bunny, he lost consciousness…

As he regained consciousness, Alan suddenly felt better. Looking down at his body, all his injuries had disappeared. Alan smiled. “Well, isn’t that convenient?” After making sure he was fully healed, he suddenly felt really hungry.

It felt as if he had a hole inside his stomach. But he had no idea how he would cook the bunny. While he could indeed eat it raw, it would have a high chance of poisoning him.

Then a thought suddenly struck him. Since this is a fantasy world, wouldn’t it make sense for there to be magic? Alan Quickly tried seeing if he could use magic. As he had read thousands of novels and books about qi, mana, chi, etc. He really wanted to see if he could use similar ways of gathering whatever energy this world had.

He first tried what qi cultivators did, he sat in a lotus pose, and calmed himself down. Alan then slowly stopped paying attention to his surroundings, the sound of the wind running through the trees slowly disappeared, as he kept falling deeper into meditating, he stopped feeling the wind brush against his skin.

The hunger within him slowly started to fade as well. As he was starting to fall asleep, he tried sensing his dantian, of which he guessed was around the navel area.

But just as he found it, he felt a sudden and intense pain in his chest area, opening his eyes he was met by a hideous sight.

In front of him was a creature resembling a goblin. Rage filled him, he was so close, and for him to not only be interrupted, but stabbed by such a pathetic creature?

He stared into the eyes of the goblin, his bloodlust exploding outwards. The goblin met his eyes and was struck with fear, it quickly backed up, leaving the dagger that was still stabbed inside of Alan’s chest.

Alan looked down at the dagger, it was pure luck that he hadn’t died. The goblin had luckily stabbed him just a couple cm away from his heart. Alan grabbed the dagger and pulled it out. The insane amount of pain that he was met with however, did not phase him. He was too angry.

As he pulled out the dagger, the goblin had started to slowly back away, and as soon as the dagger was fully out, it started running away.

It needed to get help from its tribe! It needed to warn them of this threat!

Alan stared at the goblins back, not only had it dared to stab him, but it was now running away… His rage intensified, he hated cowards more than anything, for it reminded him of his past.

He stood up and started running after the goblin, and he quickly caught up to it, and as he did, he grabbed the goblins neck and threw it to the ground. A loud crack came from its neck, it spasmed a bit before lying completely still.

But his rage did not calm, rather, it intensified. The goblin had died too easily. He knew he couldn’t go back to meditating, he was too emotional, and as such, he grabbed the body of the goblin and walked back to where he had originally been.

After finding the tree he had been meditating next to, he threw the goblin carcass to the ground. In some fantasy novels, goblins had magic crystals inside of them, and he was curious if these also had them.

Alan looked at the dagger that he had taken from the goblin, it looked similar to obsidian, but he knew it wasn’t so, obsidian was not as sturdy as this material.

After hitting the dagger with a stone without it breaking, Alan smiled, it was indeed not obsidian, rather, it was something better. He decided to name it Odicrum. He used the word obsidian and mixed it until it sounded cool, Odicrum, quite the name, eh? After deciding on useless things, it was time to find out whether or not this world was like all those novels.

He punched hard a couple times until he heard the ribs of the goblin crack, he then stabbed down the dagger and cut open its torso. “In the novels they usually say that the crystals are within the heart, let’s hope that’s the case in this world too.”

Turns out that there was no crystal inside the goblin, he even checked around the rest of the insides but found nothing. He had just desecrated his enemy for no reason.

“Why can I do such a horrible thing and not feel bad?” Alan felt conflicted, he had just casually killed a fleeing goblin, then cut open its insides just to fill his curiosity. He felt, less human. But he decided to ignore it, its not like he really cared too much about it. It simply just felt a little weird. There’s also the issue with his anger, he never got this angry on earth, its as if he changed the moment he arrived on this planet. He had indeed always loved to fight, but he used to be an honorable and merciful man. But here he was, killing a goblin that ran away after stabbing him. He could have simply caught the goblin and tried communicating with it, maybe they could have come to an understanding.

But it was too late now, he couldn’t change the past, but he could work on himself.

After calming down, Alan went back to his meditation, and after slowly losing all his senses and only focusing on his internals, he checked his navel area and found his dantian. It was small and empty, and connecting to it were tens of meridians, but they were all empty as well. There was no action. Basing his knowledge on cultivation novels, he knew that there should be energy flowing through these veins just like blood does. But here they were, empty.

He tried sensing the ambient energy around him, but to his dismay, he couldn’t sense anything. He slowly exited his meditation and sighed. This was going to be a hard road. But at the same time, he was happy. He was glad that he could get even stronger than he was now.

By earth standards he knew he was one of the strongest, but here, he was weak. He could barely win against the agile bunny, and he had died to an orc. Luckily that goblin had stabbed him slightly to the right, resulting in nothing internal getting damaged, otherwise he would have been dead.

Based of the fantasy novels back on earth, these creatures were cannon fodder, lowly creatures that were at the bottom of the food chain, yet here he was, struggling to even survive.

He looked at the bloody remains of the goblin, and he decided to leave. Nothing good would come out of staying close to it, the blood would most likely bring in even more dangerous creatures. Normally this wouldn’t bother him, but he was weak and starving.

He once again picked up the bunny and started walking towards where the goblin had gone when it ran away from him. If he had to guess, it was probably going to get reinforcements, which meant that there were probably goblins in that direction.

Alan smiled, there was going to be a bloodbath.
