Alex felt so good! Was this heaven? No, unlikely. Or if it was – the God had a terrible taste in music.
Indeed, while he physically experienced a blissful state, he could hear someone singing, someone without the slightest musical talent.
Although the voice was not unpleasant … and he knew he song! Wait! Which one was it? Alex tried to concentrate, but fell asleep, or passed out.
The next time he woke up, the singing was gone, but the pleasant physical feeling was still there.
‘Alright. Looks like I’m not dreaming.’ Alex thought, ‘Am I in the egg sac again? No, this feels different. Can I … yup, I can move.’
He tried to move his hands and legs to feel out what body did he have and whether he was an insect, beast or human, but as soon as he moved, someone started to sing again. Well, they tried to – it still couldn’t be considered singing, but the person obviously sang a lullaby.
‘Phew. Looks like Tony’s curse didn’t last for too long. Back to humans again.’ Alex inwardly grinned and fell asleep. For some reason the clumsy singing felt very soothing and brought psychological comfort he lacked during his last life.
‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star!’ As soon as he woke up again Alex recognized what was the song he heard the last time. And the one singing obviously sang it in English, ‘Well, not bad at all. Knowing the language is a head start in a life, I guess.’
Unfortunately this ‘head start’ came with a downside. During the waking moments Alex got bored out of his mind. While his mother rarely talked with other people, the dialogs were short and primitive – mostly about the everyday needs. If he didn’t speak the language, at least he could’ve had something to do – like figuring out what his mother was talking about or recognizing the relations with other people … but … oh, well, at least he wasn’t a spider.
For some reason the father was not around, but it didn’t bother Alex much – he didn’t give much worth to family values anyway. Since they appeared to live in the countryside, there was a higher chance for him to grow healthy and that was all what mattered.
After quickly losing interest about processes outside, Alex decided he would intentionally try to spend more time ‘growing and developing’. Well, in this case it was basically sleeping and the best thing about it – it didn’t take any effort. For some reason he found it extremely easy to fall asleep at will and decided it probably was a special skill for fetuses, who knows.
Time flew by with Alex mostly sleeping and his mother stubbornly not improving her singing abilities. Until some day, or night – Alex had no way to tell, the singing was replaced with soft crying and sobbing.
Unfortunately Alex missed the news while sleeping and didn’t know what transpired. Apparently someone died or some similar tragedy occured, because the crying didn’t stop. When he tried to move as if encouraging her to start singing again to at least get her mind off the worries she had, mother’s crying only intensified.
It became so annoying, he couldn’t even properly fall asleep at will. Alex even began to plan his potential ways of ‘escape’. Of course, there was only one route and he had no idea if he was ready or even – what exactly did he had to do and how the process went.
Some days, maybe a couple of weeks later he was caught by an unpleasant surprise. Even though up until now his mother kept frequently crying, it only affected Alex’s emotional state and annoyed him. Physically he still felt like he was floating in heaven.
But it all ended when someone brutally tore this heaven open and threw him in hell. The sudden light almost blinded him and two ruthless gigantic hands pulled him out from the sacred place that was his home for the past months.
‘A C-section? Is there a problem with her? Or with me?’ Alex tried to understand while doing his best to ignore the doctor’s unpleasant grip. Everything around him was blurry and he found it impossible to discern anything in particular – only statures of people and maybe furniture.
“Congratulations! Your baby is healthy!” Unfamiliar female voice said, but got only loud sobs in reply.
‘Wtf?! Even now? Mother, dear, what the hell is wrong with you?’ Alex felt wave of annoyance flush over him again, ‘Alright, I’ll school you as soon as I’ll reach the appropriate age to speak.’
He already planned to ‘go with the flow’ during the early years to not stand out and only practice some stuff secretly while no one was around.
‘Ok, people! Listen up! Now wash me and then give me a tit or better – two. Alex needs to grow up! Hahaha!’ He joked and laughed to himself.
“Aren’t you adorable? Smiling already! Your mommies will definitely love you very much!” The same unfamiliar female voice said, “Don’t worry, you’ll meet them real soon!”

‘What? What mommies? Where do you think you just cut me out from? Wait, wait wait! Did I get some bad luck and was born in to some kind of sect?’ Alex suddenly had a bad feeling.
Even if he was in a sect where many females were his mothers, from the experience in the first life he knew that having multiple women in one household would bring only trouble. He didn’t need many mothers – one healthy specimen would suffice!
But in the end he was washed up and afterwards wrapped in an incredibly uncomfortable cloth. After blissfully floating in his mother’s belly for months, this felt like a hell indeed. Alex continued to curse everyone around him and their families, and ancestors until he fell asleep.
“There she is!” Another unfamiliar voice woke him up, but this time – male.
‘Oh? There are other males in this sect? Maybe not everything is lost.’ Alex thought and tried to look around, but still only saw blurred silhouettes.
“Arabella Philomena Carolina Persephone Veronica Alessandra! Meet your two mommies!” The same male voice said.
‘Wait! What?!’ Alex almost blanked out.
“Oh my god! She is so cute!” An excited female almost screamed in a high pitch voice, “Doctor, can I hold her?”
“Sure, just speak more softly. She just woke up and you wouldn’t want to scare her at your first meeting, right?” Male, the doctor replied and carefully passed Alex over.
‘No, no, no … ‘Her’? ‘She’? … No, no, no … What the hell happened? What the hell went wrong?’ Alex almost felt like crying for the first time since his childhood in the first life, ‘Is it because I killed that bastard? Why the hell am I getting punished?! He was an old mobster who tortured and killed tens, maybe hundreds of people! I did the world a favor! So why? God, why?!’
“Oh, look! She’s so adorable!” The one that held Alex said.
“Sophie, just be careful! We spoke about it – don’t pamper her too much or she’ll get used to it!” Another female impatiently said.
“Of course, Karen! But this is our first meeting and we have to leave a good impression.” Sophie seriously said.
‘What the hell is wrong with you two? To not pamper a newborn? Leave a good impression?’ Alex felt like he was loosing his mind.
“You two don’t have to worry, ladies. Children of five or even seven don’t remember anything from their earlier years. You two are safe.” Doctor seriously said.
“Ok. When can we get her?” Karen asked.
‘Get? Wtf? Are we in some kind of a store?’ Alex’s head continued to spin form the crazy things people kept saying.
“Just as we discussed in our contract, you can bring the child away three days after the birth. Of course, we’ll have to verify the payment beforehand.” Doctor said.
“Can’t we really take her home now? We have transferred the money and, more importantly, I already ordered the celebratory dinner. Many of our friends will be there to see our daughter.” Sophie asked with a smile.
“Well, we still need to make sure …” Doctor wanted to say something, but Karen interrupted.
“Doctor, we already payed almost the double amount of what people usually pay. Of course, part of that was to get a girl from a healthy mother, but we never haggled and you could appreciate out generosity, right?”
“If you put it that way … alright.” Doctor said after thinking for a moment, “But I’ll need you to sign some additional papers. You’ll need to excuse me for a few minutes – I’ll have to deal with some things since you are in the rush. Meanwhile you can take a seat and rest …”
“It’s fine, you can go.” Karen dismissed the doctor as if this was her office.
“The baby …” Doctor tried to say something but this time Sophie was the one to interrupt.
“Don’t worry, doctor. We completed the course on how to treat newborns and I have a degree in psychology. You can safely leave the child with us.”
‘He is trying to say that I need to be fed, you damn bitch!’ Alex tried to scream, but only weak gurgles came out. Talking as a newborn was basically impossible.
“Hahaha! Look! You are so adorable, just like your mommy Sophie!” Karen giggled and pinched Alex’s cheek.
“No, no! She is as adorable as mommy Karen! Here, hold her!” Sophie also giggled and passed Alex over to his mommy number two.
Doctor looked at the two for a few seconds, then sighed and left the room while Alex’s nightmare continued.
“You see, my daughter! This is how we deal with things!” Karen suddenly stopped giggling and began to seriously instruct Alex, “You must always be firm and take advantage of any situation, especially when concluding business deals.”
“Indeed!” Sophie played along, “While you might have different genes than we do, we will teach you everything you need to know!”
Fortunately the nightmare ended, or rather – was paused, when few minutes later a nurse came in and brought Alex’s meal. He would’ve preferred a tit, but his opinion obviously didn’t matter. He never really saw his mother and, when a short while later he was brought to the car, he understood he never will. When this thought struck him, for some reason he felt a weird, almost physical pain inside, as if someone was slowly stabbing him somewhere under the heart. During the next weeks he slowly got used to it, but for some reason it never left.
During the car ride Alex finally started paying attention to the two women who now legally were his mothers.
While Sophie’s inability to shut up Alex considered a bad trait, it did bring a big bonus – free source of information. In addition, she was obviously well educated and her speech was well organized and methodical.
Alex learned the two were high school sweethearts and kept their relationship a secret until finally at the age of thirty five they married when the gay marriage was legalized in Netherlands. They had a New Year’s eve wedding and it was beautiful, blablabla ...
Alex didn’t care much about it and even less about them being gay, in fact, he didn’t really have an opinion on gay relationship. He had his own lifestyle and what they did had nothing to do with him. In addition, the sole prospect of growing up as a girl terrified him, thus he refused to think about relationships in general.
According to Sophie, his two mommies were both successful each in their own field – Karen was a CEO of some large company while Sophie practiced psychiatry, but Alex missed if she was a private practitioner or a medical psychiatrist. Be as it may, the two lived in a large apartment in the center of New York, that Alex will love etc., etc.
After making the introductions, Sophie did her best to hold back and turned on some educational record, but Alex didn’t hear much and quickly fell asleep to an elderly man’s voice.
