The walk was rather silent and awkward, as the two had nothing to talk about. Both of them absolutely sucked at socialising and it didn't help.
Jonathan scratched the back of his head and then finally spoke. "...What do you think of my brother? ...I see you two are getting... close."
Royce chuckled. "He's a pretty nice guy—kind of scary—but hey, we get along."
It was weird having a conversation with someone that's pretty quiet the whole time.
"If I were you, I wouldn't say in front of Johannes that he's scary. To him, you're basically saying he's... flawed." Jonathan hesitated on the last bit.
"Johannes wants to be... perfect. He wants to be seen as perfect. But, it fails because of his personality—he's trying his best, though," Jonathan explained
Royce slowly nodded, processing everything all at once. Johannes wanting to be perfect? To be honest, Johannes was far from perfect, his talents, however, were making it up.
"Johannes... is scary when you point out his flaws," Jonathan added. "He could easily snap like a twig and he won't even notice it. Uncle Nathaniel said that he was pretty alike to our father in his youth, and even now."
"... But still, Johannes is trying to fix that flaw of his. With his friends on his side, snapping is pretty uncommon," Jonathan continued, a smile forming his face.
"I hope one day... I hope Johannes realises that he doesn't have to be perfect. People change, right?" Jonathan asked, looking at Royce, hopeful.
"I guess soo... I mean, I kind of witnessed it happening," Royce responded.
It reminded him of his mother. In his auntie's stories, his mother was aggressive during her growth, but when she had kids, she started to form a soft side for families.
Honestly, Royce was surprised when his aunt described his mother as "aggressive," because she never showed that side much to him.
She did try to use Royce as part of her experiments, but she was careful before conducting an experiment on him. She tried her best so that nothing could go wrong on them.
Jonathan sighed and looked down. "Johannes is too focused on being perfect that sometimes... he's starting to forget who he is. I missed when he was energetic, friendly, and barely insulted other people. I guess not everything is permanent."
The words felt like a punch in the gut. Though he'd never even seen Johannes like that much, it hurt Royce. As an older brother, Royce never imagined that his little sister would change soon to a totally different person; it must've hurt Jonathan when he realised Johannes had changed.
Jonathan shook his head. "...I'm sorry for suddenly venting to you like that, I must've made you uncomfortable... let's change the topic, who do you feel the closest to?" Jonathan suggested. "Hmmm... Let's make it different, not counting your relatives, who are you the closest to?" he asked.
Royce paused for a moment. Honestly, he's never been close to anyone else for a whole decade. He wanted to be as hidden as possible to not be discovered. He's not that close yet with Johannes and the others, either.
"If you count my pet bird, I guess," Royce said simply, scratching his head while laughing awkwardly.
He made himself look like a weird lonely guy, he wasn't even lying and it was embarrassing as hell,
The bird was actually a gift from his mother, it was a part of her experiments. Meant to be turned into an intelligent animal, she gave it to Royce. Honestly, it was really a genius; it saved his little sister's life during the fire that burned his family alive.
"That's actually... cute. I'm not judging, My mother said I shouldn't judge people easily for something small. She quoted, "If you're to judge someone, it doesn't define who they are, it defines who you are." ...I really don't want to be a bad person, soo I always follow whatever my mom says."

Royce realised a cute detail about Jonathan; he constantly wants to be as respectful as possible and always follow whatever is said to him that he knows is good.
"How about you? Who are you the closest to?" Royce asked Jonathan next.
Jonathan didn't have second thoughts and immediately answered. "Richard... It's pretty obvious actually."
He was right, Jonathan had always had a special connection with Richard that made them attract. Ever since they met, Jonathan almost never left Richard's side.
"Richard taught me how to overcome my fear...of talking to people. I don't understand why people would even waste their time on me," Jonathan said in a brittle voice, his voice about to crack a cry. "...Richard was the first person other than Johannes that cared about me, I always thought... I was useless, I have no worth." he continued.
Royce noticed the sudden change of Jonathan's tone, and he looked at Jonathan with a concerned look.
Then Royce remembered what Cameroon had said. Jonathan was neglected by his father ever since he was a child. Even on TV, Jonathan was never mentioned as the son of James Brahms. Pretty depressing if you think about it.
How could a parent do that to their own child? Royce had never met Mr. James, but by the way his own kids were describing him, he's no way near to being a good father figure.
"Come on, Jonathan. Don't think of yourself too low, there's no such thing as being a "useless person." Everyone has a role in life, no matter what. For example, your role is being an older brother to Johannes—to be at Johannes' side," Royce assured with a smile, "As an older brother myself, we have an important role for our younger siblings. They look up to us."
Jonathan didn't feel any better. He knew that Johannes did more than him for the two of them. Johannes sacrificed himself so that his father could leave Jonathan alone, for his own sake.
All the hatred that their father was all thrown to Johannes, not Jonathan. Jonathan hated himself for pretending to be blind of what was happening to his younger brother.
He was selfish.
Jonathan eavesdropped when Johannes and his father made the deal, it shattered his heart to pieces. He was...disgusted at his father the day he heard their conversation.
Johannes is only 15.
Johannes is still a child, by looks and age. That was the reason why Jonathan was disgusted at his father. He was a paedophile, much worse is that Johannes is his own child. Johannes is not even adopted—they are biologically related.
That's not the only problem, though. Johannes is being used as a different source of money. Being forced as a young model and actor, when kids his age should be exploring the world with curiosity. Their father uses Johannes to show the world that he's a perfect father for having such a talented child. What a loathsome father figure.
"Don't be down, one day you'll realise your worth in this world. It just takes time," Royce said, cutting off Jonathan's thoughts.
Jonathan looked at Royce and then he smiled. "...Thank you for your assurance."
"No problem. Also, we're here now," Royce said as they stopped in front of a two-story house, tiny compared to Johannes' and Jonathan's house. Jonathan could hear the distant screeching of a bird from the house.
Royce approached the door and opened it. "Come in if you want to," he offered.
Jonathan accepted the offer by nodding and followed behind Royce who had entered the house already.
Jonathan closed the door behind him when he entered Royce's home.
The inside of the house looked pretty neat, everything was organised. However, what caught Jonathans' eyes were the picture frames hanging on the walls. The pictures included Scarlett Rose, Royce's mother, holding a baby in her arms and a young male standing next to her, which Jonathan guessed was Royce and his little sister.
"You're late, again," the two heard a young female's voice.
They saw a young girl come down the stairs with a white cockatoo, one of the known parrot species, flying and following behind her, She looked like she was around the age of ten. She had brown hair and dark brown eyes—similarities a lot like Royce, yet not really.
"A guest?" She said questionably and approached them.
Royce chuckled and put a hand on his little sister's head. "Jonathan, meet my little sister, Deiji." Royce introduced his little sister who had a grumpy expression.
The cockatoo then landed on Royce's shoulders, the colour of the feathers were almost fully white except for the yellow crest, including the underside of the wings which were also yellow.
"And this is Cedric, he's a sulphur-crested cockatoo. Our mom gave him to me as a gift," Royce introduced his pet bird.
Deiji rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, a frown on her face. "Why is there a stranger in our place?" she said with an annoyed tone.
Royce looked at Jonathan and chuckled nervously as he looked at his younger sister, "Be nice, Deiji. He's a new friend, his name is Jonathan. We really need to stop hiding and be close to other people," Royce explained to Deiji with a small smile.
"Whatever. I'm going back to my room, I have something to do." She turned her back from the two and walked back upstairs.
Royce looked at Jonathan. "Sorry about that, she doesn't like being with other people most of the time."
Jonathan suddenly started shaking his head. "No need to apologise, I understand," he responded.
"You can leave if you want to, I still have to cook dinner," Royce said/
Jonathan suddenly thought of an idea. "...Can I help?" he asked shyly.
Royce was surprised by the offer, but agreed anyway. Since his little sister doesn't really like his cooking most of the time, he decided that Jonathan's cooking would be nice for her to try since it was delicious.
