Prologue - Back to the Beginning

Prologue - Back to the Beginning

‘Well, seems like it’s my time… Who would’ve thought, my final moments are drenched in blood. Guess it was appropriate, what they named me…’

A lone man could be seen standing in a large underground cavern. From afar, it could be seen that he was wearing crimson armour. Looking closely, multiple arrows and daggers were sticking out of his body, his left hand was missing, the wound cauterised. Large gashes were visible on his chest, blood dripping from the wounds, but still he stood, a statue, a legend, a dying man in his final moments.

Strewn all around him were bodies, some of which looked human, but many more which were not. Beastkin, elves, dwarves, demons, orcs and more. Out of this multitude of bodies, not a single one still lived. Their bodies all that remained of their stories. Stories ended by that lone man.

‘It seems like I was wrong to be so trusting, to obey orders and not ask many questions, to repay the help they gave me, only for them to kill me. I guess it’s obvious that something like this would happen since I was a bit too strong in the end, and my popularity did rival that of the King.’

He looked around at the bodies he had left lying there. His expression did not even change in the face of the massacre that he performed.

‘Well let’s take one last look at my status then. Status.’

‘Hmm, I clawed myself up in this world. Given a bad profession, no family background, and a way too gullible personality. So many missed opportunities, but then again that’s why my luck is only 2.’

‘Wait, why do I still have a tamed beast left in my space, I thought all of them were killed earlier… Well, let’s take a look, shall we.’

A rip in space suddenly appears in front of the man, Kal, and an egg rolls out. It had the same general shape as a chicken’s egg but that was where the similarities end. With a size of around a meter at the longest and looked more like a crimson gemstone with blue swirling veins running over the surface, it weirdly fit in with the massacre surrounding it.

Bending down, he lifts it up almost effortlessly.

‘Ah, I remember this. This was with me when I first arrived on this world, I spent of my Karmic points for this, but it never hatched, and I guess, now, it never will. Well then old friend, my health has reached 10 and it seems like I only have a few moments left on this world. Well onto new things, it’s probably not going to be the same as the last time I died.’

As his eyes started to fade, you could still sense the power behind the gaze, the eyes of a predator, unwilling, even in death to be remembered as something else.

His heart beat its last and as it did, the egg, that for the last 80 years had done nothing, started to glow with a colour that can only be described as bloody. It then started to fade as the egg itself seemed to mesh into his body, the still heart beats once more, sending the blood, now infused with the egg through the body for the final time.

The legend of the Blood Reaper on the world of Aloda had to come to its end.

----------------------------------------

Feeling the heat of the sun on his face, Kal regained consciousness. Waking, he takes a second to collect himself, after all, there should be no sun where he was going.

Taking a look at his body, he can see that he’s not wearing his armour. He feels weak, much weaker than he did even when dying, almost as if his body wasn’t the trained body of the man know by all as the Blood Reaper.

Taking a moment to gaze at the sky he realises the sun he’s looking at is not that of Aloda, the world he called home for the past 80 years, but a sun that he had almost forgotten, the sun of his home world. The sun on Earth.

‘Impossible!’ He thought, ‘After all, the Earth was destroyed and all of humanity perished. That was why I ended up in Aloda in the first place.’

Further scrutinising his surroundings, he realises that he recognises his surroundings.

Piecing together the clues, ‘Untrained body, small amounts of mana in the air, the park I was in when the Earth was destroyed…’

Checking his phone, he realised that yes, he had been transported to the past when he died.

‘If I remember correctly, the asteroid, travelling at the same speed as the oh-my-god particle, makes contact in a few minutes. Guess I’ll erect a shield with some of that mana that I can sense in the atmosphere. I was born here, and now I’ll watch as she perishes.’

Without thinking much about the fact he could use magic before his reincarnation, Kal quickly draws a circle around himself with his finger while drawing in the mana he can feel in the atmosphere. After inscribing runes straight into the air, a bubble suddenly surrounds him then fades until it is no longer visible.

‘There, I will probably be safe for a second longer than the rest of the life on Earth. Well, that should make me the last human on Earth in a few minutes.’

Following this, Kal proceeded to sit down and just stare at the sky. After all, it was almost the end of the world.

A few minutes later, the asteroid entered the Earth’s atmosphere and within a few milliseconds had made impact and passed right the way through the planet, causing the planet to implode, killing every living being almost instantaneously. All except Kal, his shield held for about half a second, thus making him the final survivor before it broke, and he perished as well.
