Having arrived at the clearing where he was planning to move to, Kal checked the area to make sure that it was safe and he wasn’t encroaching on a beasts territory. Finishing the check and not finding any signs of the area not being safe, Kal set up camp and multiple runic circles. These were all alarms, the reason, some of the higher levelled beasts have some form of concealment meaning that multiple circles are needed to break the concealment and alert Kal.
As could be noticed, Kal was being a lot more cautious in comparison to before. The reason for this is that once beasts start getting above level 10, they gain specialist skills that increase their danger level in confrontations.
Once all of Kal’s precautions were in place, he decided to spend the rest of the day training his skills. Looking around at the clearing, he was once again shocked by how similar it looked to the one he had moved from earlier in the day. It was still a large area of grass with a single pond around 50 metres in width. The layout was also almost identical. If the marks in the grass left by all of Kal’s training were not present, the two clearings would be indistinguishable.
Still wanting to explore the ponds, Kal started to train his swimming and diving skills once more. While he was doing this, he was thinking about the questions that he had for Fenris when he woke up.
‘I need to ask him why I couldn’t, and still can’t, see his full status. I mean, I don’t even know what his real breed is… Also, I need to know about this tattoo like thing. Hopefully, I can pass it off as a tattoo seeing as in my 80 years here before, I have never heard about it. Anyway, let’s get grinding.’
Almost two hours later, Kal had managed to get his skills to the following:
Swimming
31%
Diving
29.5%
Looking over his skills, Kal noticed that his taming skill had actually hit 40%. This had occurred when he ‘tamed’ Fenris but due to the circumstances, Kal had not noticed.
‘This means that I can now jump my taming skill straight to 60% using the skill increase pills.’
Saying such, Kal swallowed 5 of the pills boosting his taming skill straight to 60%.
Thinking about skills, Kal realised that he could now learn the skill Diamond Body that he had received earlier as he had now reached level 10.
Diamond Body – 0%
Your body will increase its durability as your skin will be harder to penetrate and your muscles and internal organs will be less easily damaged.
Can only be trained as the body takes damage and consequently healed.
At skill completion, vitality will increase by 50 and strength by 25
It was a skill that would have been especially useful in his previous life. Luckily for him, with the advantages he had gained, he would be classed side by side, if not ahead of all the genii with which he would be attending school. And that’s before you take into account that he would be able to get a class that truly suited him.
Over the last few hours the sun had gone down, leaving the moons to become visible. On Aloda, there was not just one moon, but there were three. They did not all become visible at the same time, but there were times they were. The moons themselves were something that Kal only had a little knowledge of, but he knew there was a course on it at the school he was planning on attending.
Due to the cutthroat nature of Aloda, a lot of the information was only given to those who were strong enough. That was something that Kal knew well and planned to be strong enough to get the information he required.
Seeing as the sun had gone down, Kal decided that it was probably a good idea to get a good night’s rest in.
----------------------------------------
The next morning
‘Holy crap, this tattoo is even more lifelike than I thought yesterday!’
Saying such, Kal traced the tattoo using his hand. Suddenly he felt some of his mana being drawn into the tattoo and there was a slight flash of light around the tattoo before it faded to a dull colour.
Looking in front of him, Kal could now see Fenris, properly see Fenris. The warg stood at around 2ft in height on all fours, with a coarse coat of fur. Fenris’ fur was a mix of black and grey hairs, with the overall look being like a shadow. It was to the point that Kal felt like if a shadow fell on him, Fenris would disappear into it.
Finally having Fenris in front of him, Kal was about to start speaking when:
‘Hello.’ – Fenris
‘Holy crap, you can use telepathy! I thought I would have to guess my way to find answers with you.’ – Kal
‘Your taming skill must have reached a high enough level for me to be able to speak to you like this.’ – Fenris
‘Oh, yeah. I hit 60% yesterday so that should explain it. That along with the fact that you are a sentient being. On that point, I had to name you, so I called you Fenris. Hope you don’t mind the name.’ – Kal
‘I’m sorry for not letting you know that I wanted to bond with you, but something inside was telling me that I had to, and I couldn’t control my instincts when that happened. Also, I never had a name before, so Fenris is good enough for me.’ – Fenris
‘I guess that explains why that happened. Do you know why you became a tattoo on my arm though instead of just entering my pet space like a normal beast would?’ – Kal
‘All sentient beasts would leave a marking on their tamer if they chose to be tamed. The only way someone could have a sentient beast but not have a marking is if they used a forbidden ceremony and overwrote the beast’s consciousness. This would leave them as a sentient beast but they would be much less powerful. Also, doing such is the same as slavery. And everyone knows that one of the main rules of Aloda is that no matter what, slavery is not allowed. Therefore, anyone caught having done so will have a bounty placed on their heads by anyone who is not an ally as it will help gain Karma for the future.’ – Fenris
‘Crap, that means people will know about us then, and I have no valid way of hiding it. That is, unless your concealment skill allows you to hide it? After all, we are bonded, and I still can’t seem to view your status.’ – Kal
‘Luckily, as long as I’m in your pet space, my skill will passively hide the marking. Unfortunately, up until I hit a high enough level, I cannot reverse my skill so that you can take a look at my status. At least, that’s what my inherited memories are telling me. So, even I won’t know what I am till then as beasts can’t view their own status till they hit level 50.’ – Fenris
‘Well, I guess we both don’t know about ourselves well. Let’s get to know each other anyway.’ – Kal
Saying such, Kal and Fenris spent some time talking about themselves as they started to become friends. After all, it would be stupid if two individuals who would be bonded for the rest of their lives ended up hating each other.
----------------------------------------
A few hours later
‘Well Fenris, we should probably go on a hunt and see how it goes. We’ll be doing it a lot over the next few years.’ – Kal
After saying this, Kal and Fenris headed out to find something to hunt.
Moving through the forest silently, Kal realised that Fenris had blended seamlessly into the shadows and was impossible to see. If it was not for their bond, Kal would have no clue where Fenris was.
----------------------------------------
Finally, after around 20 minutes of searching, Kal and Fenris found a monster to hunt.
King Iron Boar

The iron boar is a rare boar species found in woodlands on Aloda. It has skin as tough as iron and bones and flesh to match. It has the ability to use magic so be careful. This boar, is a King of its species. It has higher stats in every category as its counterpart. Be warned, they are much faster and more ferocious than you would expect. You are advised to fight them with a party of 4 to 5 people who are at least 5 levels above the boar.

‘This will be a pretty big test for us Fenris. I probably couldn’t take this beast on by myself, so I’ll be counting on you. First let’s cripple it. I’ll go for the rear right leg, you for the rear left.’ – Kal
This conversation took place around 20 metres away from a monstrosity of a boar. It was around 1.7 metres in height on its fours, a dull metallic colour with reddish eyes. The tusks that curved up from its snout were almost 50cm in length and stained a reddish colour almost like rust. Like rust, but once you got closer, you realised that the stains were most definitely the blood of other creatures.
Having got a plan on how to start the fight, both Kal and Fenris got into position. Waiting until the boar was facing away from them, Kal and Fenris exploded out of their hiding spot without making a sound. Knowing about the toughness of the boar’s skin, Kal was forced to use his sword instead of his throwing knives.
As he reached the hind leg he was aiming for, the boar finally realised something was wrong, but Kal had enough time to force his sword through the back of the boar’s knee joint causing it to be damaged and making the leg buckle. At almost the same time, Fenris had done the same thing to the other leg.
They both backed away after doing so. Fenris once again hiding in a shadow. The boar turned with a bellow of rage just to see Kal standing there with his blade out. Roaring, it charged at him. The speed with which it moved barely let Kal move out the way. Even with his quick reactions, he could feel the wind passing by him.
As the boar was turning to face him, Kal released a throwing knife into the boar’s eye. This stopped the boar from being able to see out of its right eye, giving an effective area for Fenris to attack.
The boar charged at Kal again, as he started to dodge, Kal realised that the earth under his feet seemed to be stopping him. Realising that this was probably the boar’s magical skill a few moments too late, Kal used all his strength to throw himself towards the boar’s blind side but ended up getting hit in the side.
Kal was sent flying almost 4 metres from the collision and knew that his right arm and three of his ribs were broken. Using his fire shield to gain some time, Kal swallowed a healing pill and got up again.
While this was happening, Fenris had snuck closer to the boar and damaged its right foreleg. With three of its limbs damaged, the boar was slow enough that Kal was confident he could get out of the way if necessary. Knowing this, he sent an ice arrow straight into the boar’s other eye, permanently blinding the boar. Waiting a few seconds so that the boar would have no idea what was happening, Kal ran at the boar before jumping. With his blade held in his left hand, he used the momentum from the jump to force it into the boar’s brain, ending its life.

‘Well Fenris, looks like you’ve hit level 3. If we keep training like this, you should hit a pretty high level soon. It’s kind of a shame that a tamed beast can never be a higher level than its master. But anyway, I need to get back and heal.’ – Kal
‘Are you ok? That looked painful but not deadly. Sorry I couldn’t help.’ – Fenris
While saying this Fenris had a dejected look on his face for allowing his tamer to have been injured. Understanding this, Kal comforted him.
‘It’s fine Fenris. This only happened because even with all the warnings, I still underestimated the boar.’ – Kal
Arriving back at their camp, Kal lay down to rest after taping up his ribs.
‘I seem to be healing faster than I expected. Probably got something to do with my race again. Anyway, I’ll relax till tomorrow when I should be healed, and we’ll go out and hunt again. What do you say Fenris?’
‘If you’re sure that you’ll be healed by then Kal.’ – Fenris
----------------------------------------
Two months later
Kal and Fenris had spent the last two months hunting and recovering while training their skills. Their bond had grown much deeper and they had become close friends. Inevitable, when they were the only company the other person had.
They had grown a lot in the past few months, with both of them reaching level 19. Kal was actually within a single kill of hitting level 20 and as a pre-celebration, as his swimming and diving skills had just hit 60% each, he had decided to try and get to the bottom of the ponds that were present in every clearing that he and Fenris had moved to.
Fenris had already entered Kal’s pet space so that they would not be separated. Walking over to the pond, Kal had packed his camp in case he had to stay for longer than he expected. Making sure he had one of the teleport pills available for emergencies, Kal entered the pond and began his dive.
He kept swimming further deeper as the light faded to a point that even he, with his incredible night vision, was struggling to see before he felt the sensation of being teleported.
‘Oh crap.’
He thought as he lost consciousness due to the teleport he had been forced into.
----------------------------------------
‘Finally! You’ve actually made it far enough to come here. This is going to be fun.’
A voice could be heard saying this just in front of Kal, but obviously Kal had no chance of hearing it as he was unconscious and defenceless. Normally, Fenris would be able to help Kal out in this situation, but inside Kal’s pet space, it could be seen that Fenris was also unconscious.
