Book 1: Chapter 9 - The Blitzkrieg

As Ubel piloted the mining ship to dock on Blitzkrieg, he couldn't shake the revelation that he had learned from Munda Ek're and the other pirates.

Ubel... was reincarnated into the future—10 years ahead, to be exact from his game's saved file.

The news filled Ubel with a mixture of awe and apprehension. It was both fascinating and unsettling. The knowledge and experiences Ubel possessed from the game, have the possibility of being altered or never happened.

Despite his initial unease, Ubel couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement at the prospect of what lay ahead. Instead of becoming predictable which he expected, the future had become a blank canvas, full of endless possibilities and unknown consequences.

The vast expanse of space in front of him had become uncharted waters in his eyes, which brought him tremendous feelings of worry and… wanderlust. He was starting to feel thankful for his choice to become a pirate. Unlike his former career in the game which locked him on a singular branch of options, his current career brought a limitless number of consequences he never encountered before.

“Scanning required, please cease engine functions.” a system notification alerted him as the self-defense system of Blitzkrieg stopped his ship from entering its docking bay. It sent several small golden drones and scanned the entire mining ship for several seconds.

“Scanning complete. Docking granted. Welcome aboard Captain.” he was welcomed by the same female robotic voice again as the massive ship opened its shields and allowed him to pass through its automated defense turrets safely.

As he landed, several flying drones then went towards his ship and automatically cleaned and fixed any damages it had.

“I want you to retrieve the entire–a nevermind.” he cut off himself as he wanted to salvage the wrecks of the UGTR ship. But decided to cancel the order after remembering that he wouldn’t have enough time to collect. He received the excess signal from the UGTR flagship earlier that requested a reinforcement and he already detected the point and time of their arrival.

He gazed around and saw at the docking bay the massive collection of ships that were default additions when he added Blitzkrieg to the game.

Several L-size dreadnoughts-destroyers, more M-sized frigates, and corvettes.

As well as empty fighters and bombers on the hangars, waiting for their pilots. He combined the properties and features of a supercapital carrier that he saw from other sci-fi games:

The supercarrier that he saw in a videogame called HEYLO carried several destroyers into battles, dropping them in the middle of the fire and chaos which looked badass and epic for him.

And the Avatara Class Titan from one of his favorite MMO sci-fi Ev-One Online, a ship that boasts a very game-changing presence in any battle in space. He spent almost a year buying a titan from one of the industry corporations in that online game and was immediately in love with the ship. Especially with its devastating and apocalyptic main weapon which Ubel admittedly wanted to test and see the effects with his own eyes, in this new life.

He combined the best features of these ships with his own and created a monster that he admits to be somehow overpowered in this part of the galaxy.

But he ignored all of that as Ubel wanted to personally ride each of the dreadnought-destroyers, frigates, and corvettes that were stored inside his Titan ship but he decided to let it go for now as he had pressing matters to attend to. He went straight to the bridge of Blitzkrieg while marveling at the interior of his massive ship. Something that he could never appreciate if he saw it behind a monitor.

As he rode an elevator, Ubel found himself lost in thought, pondering the implications of his newfound knowledge. According to Munda and other pirates he interrogated, the Sol System was still under the control of the Union of Great Terran Republics, or UGTR, with Terra—formerly known as Earth—as its capital planet.

And the events of conflicts and struggles that had plagued the Sol System during his last playthrough of the game. The UGTR's war with the Melsolent System and the Colonial Alliance, the rebellion in the Strauss System—these were events that he had passed through in the virtual world of Pitch Black Void. All of these were now confirmed to be canon as the past events of this life.

But he needs more information.

Then while he delved deeper into the current state of affairs within the Sol System, he couldn't help but be astounded by the developments that had occurred in the 10 years since his last save point.

The UGTR had somehow emerged victorious in their war against the Colonial Alliance, reclaiming control over the rebellious Strauss System and even overtaking the Melsolent System. Then the Colonial Alliance, threatened by the growing influence and territory of the UGTR, established defensive pacts with all neutral sovereigns that caused the encirclement of the UGTR.

"It's incredible," Ubel remarked, shaking his head in disbelief. "To think that so much has changed in just a decade."

"But it seems that the UGTR isn't resting on their laurels," he told himself. "They've been busy building new stellar stations, fortifying their defenses around strategic planets across their sectors."

Ubel frowned, his mind racing with the implications of UGTR's actions.

"It sounds like they're preparing for something big," he mused. "Maybe they're anticipating another conflict with the Alliance?"

He was also told that the UGTR has been tightening its grip on their allied systems by directly building jump gates, ensuring complete control over interstellar travel within their sphere of influence. It was clear that they were taking steps to consolidate their power and assert their dominance over other neighboring systems that were still trying to remain neutral.

But when he asked about the Alliance's reactions to UGTR aggression, he received no reply. The Demonic Monkeys never heard anything from the Alliance because they avoided their systems so far. Unlike UGTR who have a separate entity for handling outlaws, the Alliance uses its navy and military might to crush down any outlaw that sticks out.

It was one of the main reasons why, aside from the abandoned sectors, UGTR sectors have the second-largest number of outlaws scouring their systems.

Despite not getting enough answers, there was one thing clear—the tensions between the UGTR and the Alliance were reaching a boiling point. With one of the most powerful factions making bold moves to expand their influence and assert their dominance, it seemed inevitable that conflict would soon erupt once again.

And now, faced with the reality that these events were not confined to the realm of a video game, Ubel couldn't help but wonder what role he would play in the unfolding conflict of the future. He still didn’t know the reason why he was reincarnated in this life.

If this was the same plot as those isekai light novels he had read, he would already be getting some kind of message or even a god appearing in front of him. He also tried a few times to scream STATUS SCREEN or STATUS to test the absurd possibility but to no avail, much to his embarrassment.

He tried insulting the names of all the gods he could remember to try to tempt them in making contact with them which also gave him another reason to dig a hole and hide there for a while.

It was just like he was reincarnated in the parallel universe where his life in the game and the game itself was a living universe and he was transferred here for some universe bullshit reason that he still couldn’t comprehend.

He also thought about the possibility of this being a result of karma but he dismissed that idea and thought. For he was neither a good nor bad person, just a realist in his past life. Probably even pessimistic. He tried to take some kind of logical reasoning out of his situation but found no reasonable idea that could explain his reincarnation.

Then when he arrived at the bridge. He sighed and decided that maybe if he lived longer in this world, he might find some answer on the way. And for now, he stepped out from the elevator.

But then what he saw was something that he could only fantasize or dream of while playing this in the game. A 3D Holographic of the entire detection range of his titan, several empty consoles for a crew on the bridge, and most importantly, a Cyruel Capsule.

A trump card that he added to his game that was carried over from basing his modifications from Ev-One Online. A crystal chamber that could contain a human body would then connect the neural links of the human to the entire ship, making the human body think that it was born with the entire ship as its body.

It was a highly advanced technology that was never available in the vanilla game of Pitch Black Void. He inserted this technology as it enabled him to control his droids, drones, and the entire ship while still capable of commanding a fleet and micromanaging a droid army. A very fortunate and well-timed upgrade to a ship in space where a decimal in error could mean a fate worse than death.

“Speaking of micromanaging…” he remembered something. A rumor that he heard using the bugs that he planted on all ships and monitored by his hijacked small drones.

He heard his new crew talking about the shadowy organization that the pirates were talking about. Such a thing in both vanilla and his modified logs was never present. And he would probably laugh at their notion of thinking that it exists.

Adding also the peculiar accusation of Munda that he was an agent of an organization.

Vestals… Ubel started to think that maybe these were just part of the consequences of 10 years of progression of this universe, which he had missed.

Except he did notice something when he went to the menu to save his game from his past life.

He noticed a beacon and thanks to the long-range scanner installed on his mining ship, he was able to retrieve and unlock the beacon which was a navigation beacon with no signature ID from UGTR or the Alliance.

Two of which were the most powerful sovereigns in this part of the galaxy, yet had no signature or ownership over a nav beacon. The corporations were out of the list as he knew that the UGTR made it strictly illegal for corporations to deploy nav beacons due to the unintended but disastrous effects of the Corporate War. Where nav beacons were also used to jam and disorient traveling freighters and ships owned by rival corporations but also affected other civilian and military ships causing a tremendous amount of casualty and financial damage. Even outlaws and pirates would never take or create a nav beacon for themselves as it made it easier for the UGTR and Alliance to track them down.

That’s why he got confused about finding the unknown nav beacon. And decided it may have been just a bug. When he investigated its range, he realized that it functions like a scanner, satellite, and nav beacon, in just a small size and undetectable floating beacon. Something that even the known sovereigns that he knew from the other sides of the galaxy have no such technology yet.

Not only that, back when he was trying to modify his game. He had stumbled upon encrypted messages and coded transmissions that he thought to have been made by the vanilla system to create procedural factions or continue the dynamic plot of the universe.

He had encountered many procedural creations of the system but what got his attention was that it added some strange scripts when he finalized the modification of his game.

Something inside the game was trying to adapt to the changes he made.

Something that the procedural creations in the vanilla game would never do without running the game.

But due to his excitement to try the results of his modifications, he later forgot about it as he dived into his immersion.

“I am starting to believe that I may have added something I didn’t or never planned to add.”

Then again he remembered what Munda suspected for his real identity.

“Vestal… I can confidently say that there are no significant organizations with that name on the game in my last playthrough…” he mused, thinking deeply. “Could it be another anomaly that was produced by the procedural integrated system of the game?”

This time, he won’t make the same mistake. He made a mental clock to notify himself of this strange organization. He must first organize himself and his new assets before taking on more problems. The holographic display in front of him showed the list of ships under his command, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at the sight.

Ubel then sat in front of the holographic terminal on the bridge of the Blitzkrieg, his fingers dancing across the interface as he surveyed the list of ships.

"Dreadnought-Destroyers," Ubel muttered to himself, scanning through the names. Each ship was a formidable force in its own right, capable of unleashing devastating firepower upon any enemy foolish enough to stand in their way.

"Visqueen, Deadlock, Perdition, Fallen Prime, Vindicator Blade, Heathen’s Bane, and Indominus Sentinel," he murmured, taking note of each ship's designation. These were the planned heavy hitters of his fleet, the backbone of his offensive capabilities.

Next, he moved on to the frigates, his eyes flicking across the list as he read out their names.

"Blastburn, Izzelmelda, Coldberth, Ctesiphon, Icon of the Dark, Ninevel, Malebolgia, Aksun Ur, Akkad, Uuxmal, and Monte Alban." The frigates were smaller than the dreadnoughts, but no less deadly in combat. With their speed and maneuverability, they could outmaneuver even the most agile of M-size opponents.

Finally, he turned his attention to the corvettes, the agile M-sized skirmishers of his fleet.

"Guerra el Madre, Vec Stratum, Cherubim, Maelstrom, Demon Dice, Ill-fated, Forge Fortune, Necrosecunda. Tenebris, Sutherland, Vainglory, Nightmother, Gravemourne, Discord, and Azure Kai." These ships were fast and nimble, perfect for harassing enemy formations and striking at vulnerable targets.

But it was the last section of the list that caught Ubel's attention—the pirate ships that he had captured during their encounter with Munda Ek're and his crew. These ships, while not as advanced as his own, still represented a valuable addition to his fleet.

His fleet was growing stronger by the day and with each new addition.

"Godright, Reinbull, Silent Bitch, Culling, Shen Zo, Magurba, Shianon, Pussypaw, Massclaw, Ardent Will, Lonely Skull, Disavowed, Millicent, Arturos, Zertum, Royal Carriage, Rockguard," Ubel muttered, his mind racing as he considered the possibilities.

With these ships under his command, he could bolster his forces and strengthen their career as a rising pirate group without using any of his dreadnoughts-destroyers, frigates, and corvettes.

But he knew that having a fleet of ships was only part of the equation. To truly succeed as a pirate, he would need skilled crew members to man his vessels and carry out his raiding or boarding parties. He sat in the captain’s chair of the Blitzkrieg’s bridge, contemplating his next move.

He started to regret killing most of the commanding figures of the pirates earlier. He didn’t expect that most of them actually monopolized the control of their ships and even acted as helmsmen on their own, probably not trusting their crew to pilot their ships in their place. As he investigated further, he found out that it was a measure applied by their ship captains just in case a mutiny among them occurred which gave no chance for mutineers to travel in space without getting lost.

The purpose of killing the commanding figures was to establish competition among the crew to be promoted as the next ship captains, as well creating an intimidating figure for the pirates who will not hesitate to delete anyone who disappoints or displeases him. With this new revelation, he decided to send his golden command droids to pilot the ships instead while also placing promising crews on each ship's bridges, something that could be considered on-the-job training.

He sighed as he thought about the what-if scenarios where he only killed Munda while brainwashing the rest of the ship captains. Then he shook his head, clapping both of his cheeks with his palm, reminding himself that it was too late to cry over spilled milk.

Although the implants that he gained, did give him enough knowledge and information on things.

But one ship, in particular, caught his attention—the Godright, former flagship of Munda Ek're. This former UGTR battlecruiser was outdated and phased out by the UGTR military by this point and yet this was still a formidable vessel, capable of holding its own in even the most intense of battles. It could stand against a number of his corvettes due to its range, firepower, and hull integrity.

But as impressive as it was, he could not afford to command two ships at the same time.

So, he knew that he needed to assign a capable captain to command the Godright, someone who could lead with authority and skill. The captain of this ship will also act as his vice commander and take command in his absence. After reviewing the performance of his crew members, one name stood out above the rest—Creed Astefalt.

Creed was a seasoned pirate, with years of experience under his belt. He had proven himself time and time again in combat records and the ship logs of the Godright as its former helmsman before he was kicked out by Munda for questioning his decision. And Ubel knew that he would be the perfect choice to command the Godright after seeing the recommendations also from the other crews.

"Creed," Ubel called him out through a holo, much to the surprise of the other side who was helping in repairing Godright with the other crew members.

“Y-yes commander?”

"I have a special assignment for you."

Creed coughed once and straightened his back.

"What is it, Captain?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry and confusion.

Ubel gestured to the holographic display, indicating the Godright. Passing the digital figure and its access codes to Creed.

"I'm assigning you to command this ship," he explained. "It was Munda Ek're's flagship, and now it belongs to me. And this ship carries the responsibility of taking the position of a vice commander. I need someone I can trust to lead our forces in situations I am not present, and I believe you're the right man for the job."

Creed's eyes widened in surprise, and then a grin spread across his face.

"Thank you, Captain," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I won't let you down."

Ubel laughed inwardly as he didn’t expect to be received positively after what he had done to their crew earlier. Like when he walked through the corridors of the mining ship, he could feel the eyes of his new crew following him, their gazes filled with suspicion and doubt. He knew that many of them viewed him with skepticism, questioning his sudden rise to power and wondering if he truly deserved to command them.

Maybe it's the mindset of the pirates that made them realistic, unable to feel the need for any vengeful feelings. He thought his impression of them improved as he likes people who have the same mindset as his. Something that prioritizes rationality on things. And he had to thank their rough upbringing for living in harsh conditions. He would never get this kind of crew if they came from a civilized world.

Ubel then nodded, satisfied with his decision.

"I know you won't," he replied. "You've earned this, Creed. Make the Godright leave its mark on this galaxy under your command."

With that, Creed saluted Ubel’s holo and hurried off to start making adaptations to his new command of his new ship.

Ubel was also the same, he was determined to prove himself to his new crew. He knew that trust was something that had to be earned, not given freely, and he was prepared to do whatever it took to gain their respect and loyalty.
