Chapter 05
The UESF insignia consists of a planet and 4 stars around it. While the planet represents humanity and life, the stars represent honour, hope, exploration, and honesty. This was a round patch stitched into the uniform, with its Background was a dark shade of purple, with the planet a white ball with the inside also coloured in white. The 4 starts surrounding only outlined in white, with one on the North, one on the South, one on the East and one on the West. Every UESF officer had or on his or her left breast side of the uniform.
The crew of the ship were broken into 3 categories. And they each had a unique colour coding for their uniforms. Command uniforms are black jumpers with a grey collar easily seen inside and the outline of the planet with four stars around insignia was also grey. While the Engineers and the science officers where ivory white colour, the Security and the operations officers were navy blue.
So, when a command uniform officer came into view from the hyper lift straight into the command centre, everyone knew this was their commander and chief, the youngest captain in the entire USEF, Douglas Renton.
The captain wasn’t a small man at 6 feet, but there were bigger men on board. Even with broad shoulders, a bit hunched, his intelligence beamed behind his unusually black eyes. Both his eyes even if the light hits, the cornea of the eyes are completely black.
Doug had been called a freak, bullied by his friends because of the eyes, even though sometimes the names hurt, he was told by his parents, “people often fear what they don’t understand.”
Doug had a mother and father, but from what he gathered from the conversations from the adults when he was in his teens was just before his dad and mom got married, She was abducted by a mysterious man and was violated, as was many women were during that time.
Rumours had started, that the abducted women were taken by a sect of aliens who chose to stay behind, and the world government exterminated them after they were found. As most of the women were isolated and sent to gated communities, quarantining them and their offspring. But some of them like Doug’s mother were never found. She and his father hid and changed their original names and was never discovered.
Doug knew that the man he had called father all his life, wasn’t his biological father, but he didn’t love him any less. He always hugged him, supported him in everything, loved him like any father would his son. There was never a time Renton remembered that he was not loved by his father.
There was an Incident where to fit in with his high school friends, Doug threw a party and destroyed the house and his mother’s prized rose garden. That was the first and the last time he saw his mother really angry with him. She was so angry she saw a look of disgust pass through her face, even though his mother never showed that side of her again with him. He knew him mother was disgusted by him. She always used to call or refer to the rape as disgusting and had made the same face. That’s how Renton knew, the look on her face that day.
His father had never made him feel like what his mother had done, even after that incident, he took him aside hugged Doug and said he loved him, and everything will be alright. Wish he felt safe now as he did that at this very moment.
Now standing in the Command Centre (CC) Renton was looking at the Earth, with heightened blue, because of the purple colour the space had taken on behind the blue planet, with a black singularity right in the middle behind it.
The moon was nowhere in sight.
She remembered screaming and blackness, now light, bright light all over, white colour wherever she looked, up, down, left and right. No noise around her, an unnatural silence all around her.
She saw a man appear right in front of her, he had a very loving face, his skin wasn’t pale white like hers, he was Tan. But a very fair skinned tan. He was about her height maybe slightly taller, quite attractive. One look at him she felt weak in the knees drawn to him.
For some reason he reminded her of her father, as soon as the thought hit her, he changed, morphed into her father, then she realised why the other man had looked familiar. They both didn’t look anything alike at first glance. Among other things, Connor Riagán had pale skin, the other man had tan skin; Riagán was thinner and shorter, the other man was stockier and taller; but both had the same uncanny caring vibrant brown eyes.

Daughter looking at the father, opening her mouth to speak, but he spoke before her. “M’inion, I am so sorry I let you down, broke my heart to give you away, that’s why I never turned back”
She looked at him tears in her eyes, hurt in her heart and rage poured out from her mouth “What do you want from someone you gave away, the daughter you hurt, and the something which she has changed into, which has no love for you, not one bit”
He looked at her, sadness in his eyes, “I failed you, because I hurt you, you have hurt so many people, you were trained to hurt so many people as a weapon. But I came to tell you, someone will need your help, please don’t turn him away because of me.”
She looked at him, “Yes, everyone needs my help, to use me for their own gain, their own purpose, the monster to be let lose, to kill for their own purposes.”
Tears started rolling from his eyes, “No M’inion, this one will genuinely need you to help him save his friends and his family. He will also be your friend, your family if you let him. Please trust him, because he will trust you, he will depend on you, so depend on him and don’t let him down.”
Her anger rising, “I don’t need no family, my family made me dead inside, if this is a dream, please wake me up, I don’t want this,” Looking at the father, “Go away, Leave me alone!!”
The image of him blurred sound getting fainter. “You will know when you see him, please trust him and depend on him, he will not let you down like your family did, please help him”
Again, it was white everywhere, she was alone.
Suddenly she felt someone behind her, as she turned around, she saw deep clear blue Irises with black prominent black pupils staring at her, her own eyes staring at her, A dark haired woman shapely beautiful, just like she remembered her when she was happy. She was in this beautiful purple dress, long falls all the way to the ground flared up like a princess, with sleeveless spaghetti straps, hugging her chest, and zipped up back.
Colleen Riagán looked at her daughter, smiling “M’inion, darling you have grown into a fine young lady, so pretty baby. I really wish I could have been there to give you this dress, remember you always wanted this. I know you never asked, but I knew, because it was your favourite”.
She looked at her mother, “Mam? First Athair, now you, what do you want from me,” she said in a shouted whisper. She was too choked up to say anything else.
“Cait, we don’t want anything from you darling, we did so much to hurt you, like your father said it’s because of us you have turned into this, we want you to know we had no choice.”
Her Mother looked down and continued, “I know you don’t want to hear this right now, we had to see you to tell you, you will have to be alone for a while till this someone your father talked about comes with his family and saves you. You are the only one alive now, please hold on till help comes”.
Colleen edged closer to her daughter, suddenly arms around her, mother embraced her daughter. Her familiar scent, her familiar touch, those safe hands made the daughter do something she never did before.
She clutched her mother and she cried. Something that had not been done for a very long time, because she thought she had all cried out as a child.
But suddenly she came to her senses, pushing her mother back, “I never needed anyone once you abandoned me, I waited a long time for you, now it’s too late.” Daughter looked at her mother with hate and anger in her eyes, “Please leave me be, I lost my mother and my father a long time ago.”
Colleen watched her, as she backed away, “Remember you don’t have to forgive us, but forgive yourself my little one, and move on. It’s time for a new life and accepting it….” mother said as she faded. “….is up to you” the voice continued after her mother had disappeared.
White light was left with her alone, white light surrounded her, there was nothingness again for a while. And again blackness.
