Hey everyone! I wanted to keep you updated on a change coming to Black Fire.

What’s happening?

I’ve decided to combine Surley and Andrei’s characters into one—and make the new character fully Pinoy. Here’s a quick summary of the changes:

* Surley will be combined with Andrei, and the new character will retain the name Andrei.

* The new Andrei will be pure Pinoy.

* Every chapter with a reference to them will be updated. This means most of Jayson’s chapters will undergo edits.

Also, Marcus has been removed.

Why the change?

Based on feedback on RR and my own analysis, I’ve realized there are too many characters at the beginning of the book. Surley hasn’t been contributing much to the story, and Marcus's fate hasn't been very impactful. I still want Surley to be part of the narrative, so combining him with Andrei will streamline things while keeping the best elements of both.

What does this mean for you?

If you’re a regular reader, you don’t need to go back and reread anything. Just keep in mind:

* Any mention of Andrei and Surley now refers to one character: Andrei.

* Andrei is now pure Pinoy and still the group’s weapons expert.

* Marcus was never there (Marcus who?!)
