Getting To Know Her

Getting To Know Her

Sensing the tension, Luma gracefully leapt onto the console and curled beside the controls. Her purring filled the silence as Clorita rubbed her temples.

“This ship,” she muttered, “is getting weirder by the minute.”

Zog still flustered, retreated to his chair. “Weirder? It’s already a madhouse. And now I have to worry about being a space dad?”

HALAT stepped toward the central console, her presence commanding. “Fear not, Captain. I shall support this crew in all endeavours. Including improving your leadership skills.”

“Not helping!” Zog snapped.

As Clorita shot HALAT a warning look, BOB’s voice chimed in, laced with dry humour. “Shall I activate the Celestial Caress function on the Captain’s chair? It appears he needs relaxation.”

“BOB!” Zog yelled, burying his face in his hands as Clorita burst into laughter.

Clorita leaned back in her chair, the dim glow of the maintenance computer casting shadows across the bridge. She muttered to herself, scrolling through endless menus. "Where is that blasted manual?" she grumbled. The ship’s robotic vacuum cleaner, a seemingly innocuous little bot, had developed an unsettling habit of trying to hoover up Luma. The cat, unbothered as always, simply hopped out of its reach, but the behaviour was getting on Clorita’s nerves.

As her search continued, she stumbled upon a file buried deep in the maintenance directory. The title caught her attention: HALAT-17 Series: Operational Specifications & Promotional Materials.

Curious, Clorita clicked it open. The screen flickered for a moment before displaying a glossy digital brochure. The first image was HALAT herself—or at least a sleek, pristine version of her, dressed in a shimmering gown and posing elegantly against a backdrop of luxury cruise corridors. The tagline beneath her image read: "Blending Beauty with Brilliance: The HALAT-17 Series."

Clorita raised an eyebrow. "Blending beauty, huh? Let’s see how deep this rabbit hole goes."

She scrolled further, her eyes narrowing as the brochure laid out HALAT’s design philosophy.

CLORITA SCANNED THE BROCHURE INTENTLY, EACH LINE OF TEXT FURTHER UNRAVELLING THE MYSTERY OF HALAT’S DESIGN AND PURPOSE. THE DIGITAL PAGES WERE AS POLISHED AND ELEGANT AS THE ANDROID HERSELF, AND THE DESCRIPTIONS PAINTED A PICTURE OF A MACHINE BUILT FOR SOPHISTICATION—AND DESTRUCTION.

THE FIRST SECTION, "MANNEQUIN DESIGN," FEATURED AN IMAGE OF HALAT POSING GRACEFULLY IN A SHIMMERING GOWN. CLORITA TILTED HER HEAD, READING ALOUD WITH A TOUCH OF SARCASM.

“‘HALAT UNITS WERE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO BLEND SEAMLESSLY WITH THE CRUISE’S ELITE GUESTS, FUNCTIONING AS DISCREET GUIDES, ENTERTAINERS, AND OCCASIONAL CONVERSATION PARTNERS. THEIR MANNEQUIN-LIKE APPEARANCE ALLOWED THEM TO FADE INTO THE BACKGROUND WHEN NOT NEEDED.’”

SHE SNORTED. “MANNEQUIN-LIKE, HUH? THAT’S ONE WAY TO SAY A WALKING COAT HANGER WITH LASER BEAMS.”

STILL, SHE COULDN’T DENY THE LOGIC. HALAT’S SMOOTH MOVEMENTS AND BLANK YET ALLURING EXPRESSIONS WOULD MAKE HER THE PERFECT COMPANION FOR THE WEALTHY AND OBLIVIOUS.

CLORITA SCROLLED FURTHER TO THE SECTION LABELLED "COVERT ARSENAL." HER EYES WIDENED SLIGHTLY AT THE SHEER AUDACITY OF WHAT SHE READ NEXT.

“‘DESPITE THEIR GLAMOROUS EXTERIORS, HALAT UNITS WERE EQUIPPED WITH CUTTING-EDGE WEAPONRY, INCLUDING CONCEALED LASER GUNS, WRIST-MOUNTED STUN RAYS, AND RETRACTABLE BLADES. THEY COULD NEUTRALISE THREATS IN SECONDS WITHOUT ALERTING BYSTANDERS.’”

SHE MUTTERED UNDER HER BREATH. “NEUTRALIZE, HUH? A FANCY WAY OF SAYING ‘TURN A BALLROOM INTO A WAR ZONE.’”

THE BROCHURE DIDN’T STOP THERE. IT ELABORATED ON HALAT’S "CLOSE COMBAT PROWESS," AND CLORITA LEANED IN, HER CURIOSITY MOUNTING.

“‘THE AI COMES PRELOADED WITH ADVANCED CLOSE-COMBAT ALGORITHMS, CAPABLE OF ADAPTING TO OPPONENTS’ FIGHTING STYLES IN REAL-TIME. A SINGLE HALAT UNIT CAN HANDLE MULTIPLE ATTACKERS WITH PRECISION AND EFFICIENCY.’”

CLORITA TAPPED HER FINGERS AGAINST THE CONSOLE, SMIRKING SLIGHTLY. “MULTIPLE ATTACKERS, HUH? WELL, I’VE BEEN MEANING TO BRUSH UP ON MY SPARRING. MAYBE SHE’D BE UP FOR A LITTLE PRACTICE.”

THE FOLLOWING SECTION MADE CLORITA PAUSE. "SITUATIONAL AI ADAPTATION."

“‘HALAT UNITS ARE PROGRAMMED WITH DYNAMIC SITUATIONAL RESPONSES, ALLOWING THEM TO INTERACT CHARMINGLY WITH GUESTS OR SWITCH TO LETHAL MODE AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE.’”

SHE RAISED AN EYEBROW, GLANCING OVER HER SHOULDER AT HALAT, WHO STOOD SERENELY BY THE VIEWPORT. “LETHAL MODE AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE? YEAH, I’VE SEEN THAT ALREADY.”

FINALLY, THE LAST ENTRY CAUGHT HER ATTENTION: "STEALTH MODE."

“‘ADVANCED CLOAKING TECHNOLOGY ALLOWS HALAT UNITS TO BECOME NEARLY INVISIBLE, IDEAL FOR COVERT OPERATIONS OR TAILING POTENTIAL THREATS ABOARD THE SHIP.’”

CLORITA WHISTLED LOW, SHAKING HER HEAD. “INVISIBLE AND ARMED TO THE TEETH. MAKES YOU WONDER HOW MANY ‘GUESTS’ DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE.”

AS THE BROCHURE ENDED, CLORITA LEANED BACK, HER MIND BUZZING WITH POSSIBILITIES. HALAT WAS MORE THAN JUST A GLORIFIED ANDROID MANNEQUIN—SHE WAS A MASTERPIECE OF COMBAT ENGINEERING WRAPPED IN COUTURE.

"So, you’re not just a sassy fashionista, huh?" She flicked through more pages, marvelling at the blend of elegance and lethality HALAT’s creators had achieved.

Her gaze lingered on a section titled "Recommended Deployment Scenarios." It detailed HALAT units serving drinks at galas, escorting VIPs to private events, and, when necessary, elegantly and efficiently disarming pirates.

"That explains a lot," Clorita muttered, remembering HALAT’s graceful but unsettling combat manoeuvres when they activated her. She made a mental note to keep a close eye on the android.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Then, a sly grin spread across her face as a thought struck her. "All that close-combat programming... She’d make a hell of a sparring partner."

Clorita shut the file, her mind already racing. Training with HALAT could not only sharpen her skills but also allow her to test the android’s limits—and maybe keep her from getting bored.

"Hey, HALAT," she called out, swivelling her chair to face the android, who stood near the bridge console, perfectly still. "Feel like stretching those combat circuits sometime soon?"

HALAT’s glowing eyes flicked toward her, the faintest smile playing on her lips. "Are you suggesting a duel, Mother? How delightful."

Clorita smirked. "Something like that. But don’t expect me to go easy on you."

"I would never dream of it," HALAT replied smoothly, her voice tinged with anticipation.

As Clorita logged out of the maintenance system, she glanced at Luma, who had finally reclaimed her favourite perch on the console. The vacuum bot whirred quietly nearby, its sensors fixating on the cat. Clorita shook her head, muttering under her breath. "One battle at a time."

Clorita stretched her arms above her head as she walked beside HALAT through the ship’s corridors. The gleaming panels of the upper decks reflected their footsteps and the faint hum of the ship’s systems provided a calm backdrop. HALAT led the way, her movements smooth and deliberate, her tone as formal as ever.

“There is a fully equipped gymnasium on Deck 5,” Clorita explained. “It was originally designed for passenger recreation, featuring the latest fitness technology. I use it to keep in shape.”

HALAT looked around and whispered: “I could give dance lessons here.”

Clorita raised an eyebrow. “Dance lessons? You?”

HALAT nodded. “Indeed. Waltz, tango, even interpretive nebular flow routines.”

“Uh-huh,” Clorita smirked. “And training?”

HALAT’s glowing eyes flicked toward her. “I am also programmed to give close-quarters combat, necessary to prepare passengers for potential self-defence scenarios.”

Clorita grinned, rubbing her palms together. “Perfect. Let’s see what you’ve got, Spark.”

HALAT’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Are you certain, Mother? I would not wish to overwhelm you.”

Clorita’s grin faded into a challenging glare. “Overwhelm me? That’s cute. Let’s find out.”

The gym was massive, its walls lined with holographic displays and racks of pristine equipment. At its centre was a spacious sparring mat surrounded by reflective barriers that absorbed the impact. Clorita and HALAT stepped onto the mat, each sizing up the other.

HALAT inclined her head. “We can begin with light sparring to ensure you are not... overexerted.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Clorita said, rolling her shoulders. “Show me what you’ve got, Spark.”

HALAT’s first move was swift but restrained—a graceful sweep meant to unbalance Clorita without causing harm. Clorita countered quickly, but the ease with which HALAT moved left her fuming.

“Really?” Clorita said, dodging another half-hearted strike. “You call that sparring? Come on, Spark. Hit me like you mean it.”

HALAT tilted her head. “As you wish.”

The next strike came faster, a blur of motion that Clorita barely blocked in time. HALAT’s strength became apparent as she pushed Clorita back, forcing her to pivot quickly to avoid a takedown.

Clorita’s eyes narrowed. “Alright, no more games.”

She lashed out with a series of rapid strikes, her fists striking HALAT’s arms and torso. However, the android easily absorbed each blow, and her combat algorithms calculated Clorita’s movements.

What began as a controlled sparring session quickly escalated. Clorita, frustrated by HALAT’s mechanical precision, pressed harder, forcing the android to adapt. HALAT, in turn, increased her speed and strength, each move executed with chilling efficiency.

Clorita growled in frustration as she dodged a rapid jab. “Is that all you’ve got? Fight me like a person, not a damn algorithm!”

HALAT paused for a fraction of a second, her eyes glowing brighter. “Very well, Mother. I shall increase my difficulty level.”

The next few minutes were a barrage of strikes, counters, and grapples. HALAT’s power was undeniable, and her ability to predict Clorita’s moves made her seem nearly invincible. But Clorita’s frustration fueled her determination, and her unpredictable instincts began to tip the scales.

With a sudden burst of speed, Clorita feinted left, then lunged right, catching HALAT off-guard. Her elbow connected with the android’s shoulder joint, sending HALAT staggering back.

“Not so graceful now, are you?” Clorita taunted, her grin fierce.

HALAT straightened, her tone calm. “Impressive. You are adapting faster than anticipated.”

“Damn right, I am,” Clorita snapped, charging forward again.

As the fight intensified, the balance shifted. HALAT’s calculated moves became less effective against Clorita’s erratic and instinct-driven style. A well-timed sweep sent HALAT tumbling to the mat, and Clorita pinned her with surprising strength, her knee pressing into the android’s midsection.

HALAT looked up, her glowing eyes narrowing slightly. “You have improved.”

Clorita smirked, panting slightly. “Damn right, I have.”

HALAT tilted her head, her voice steady despite her position. “Do you intend to release me, or must I disengage you?”

Clorita hesitated, then grinned. “Not until you admit I’m stronger.”

HALAT paused, calculating. “You are... resourceful.”

Clorita’s grin widened. “Close enough.”

She released the android and stepped back, shaking out her arms. HALAT rose smoothly, her posture unshaken despite her defeat.
