A dream haunted Arthur as he was sleeping. His parents stood across from him and blamed him for their deaths. The center of New York City was burning in the background. Arthur woke up just when his mother was about to grab him. He tried to calm down, by taking deep breaths.
“It’s just a dream,” said Arthur.
The longer he convinced himself, the less he started to believe himself. Arthur got up and sat on his bed. Small tears started to flow down his eyes as he was staring at the ceiling.
“I’m sorry, it’s all my fault,” thought Arthur.
Arthur didn’t get any sleep after that. Every time he looked at the bed, he was reminded of his dream and the disaster that took place.
Once the morning arrived Arthur felt exhausted. His body was weaker than he thought, Arthur began to remember what Lucas and Emilia were telling him. He felt like the dreams were nothing more than just dreams and that he could get through them alone.
“I don’t need to say anything. I just have to get through the day and it should,” thought Arthur.
Even though he was tired Arthur got out of bed and went to change his clothes. The day continued with Arthur spending time with Chloe and hiding his tiredness from Lucas and Emilia. Sometimes they would ask if anything was wrong, but Arthur always said that it was fine.
He noticed that Emilia and Lucas seemed to be busy. Throughout the day, Arthur saw them talking in the office and moving around the house. Because of that, Chloe seemed to be spending more time with Arthur.
While he was eating lunch, he heard Emilia enter the kitchen. Arthur saw that she had a tired expression on her face, as she went to the fridge.
“Is something wrong, Emilia?” asked Arthur.
Emilia put on a small smile and opened the fridge. While taking some food in a container, she started to talk to Arthur. “Thanks for asking, but don’t worry, I’m fine. We are just trying to make sure we’re ready to open the shop next week,” said Emilia.
Arthur realized that today was Tuesday. He felt a little better knowing that the shop was going to open soon. Arthur remembered his parents had to call a babysitter multiple times because they didn’t come home until the morning. He felt a little better when thinking of those memories. But it was quickly followed by his recent dreams. He started speaking to distract himself from the memories. “That means you’re going to be busy for the next couple of days?” asked Arthur with a troubled expression.
Emilia nodded her head while putting the food from the container on two plates. “Don’t worry Arthur, we'll still be here. As a reward for your patience, I don’t mind cooking you something from our menu,” said Emilia with a spark of excitement in her eyes.
While Emilia was putting one of the dishes in the microwave. Small footsteps could be heard from the opposite end of the kitchen. Arthur turned to Chloe who ran into the kitchen. Emilia knitted her brows once she saw her run in, causing Chloe to wear an embarrassed smile.
Emilia took the plate out of the microwave and started to walk to Chloe. “Chloe, what did I say about running in the house,” said Emilia.
Chloe started to play with her hair. “Sorry mommy, I just wanted to see you and daddy,” said Chloe.
Emilia's face softened. “It’s okay Chloe, but you must follow the rules. Or you will face the consequences,” said Emilia.
Chloe nodded her head. “It won’t happen again,” said Chloe.
Emilia pointed to the stairs. “Daddy is on a break, so I’m sure he would be happy to see you. I’ll make food for lunch,” said Emilia.
Chloe brightly nodded and began to walk to the stairs. Once she saw Arthur, Chloe waved to him then went upstairs.
Arthur heard a small chuckle from Emilia after Chloe exited the room. “I’m surprised Chloe opened up to you so fast,” said Emilia.
Arthur wore an embarrassed smile as he heard Emilia. “It was pretty fun to talk to her, she’s very passionate about her tv show,” said Arthur.
Emilia smiled at Arthur. She finished preparing the food and began to go upstairs with two dishes in her hand. “It’s great that you’re adjusting Arthur, I hope you can continue to look after Chloe for us,” said Emilia before she left the room.
Arthur was left sitting at the kitchen table. He felt a little better knowing that his aunt and uncle will still be in the house. Putting away his thoughts, Arthur got up and started to wash his plate.
His attention was shifted to the noise of someone moving down the stairs. Chloe entered the kitchen from the hallway and started to walk towards Arthur.
“Arthur, are you busy?” asked Chloe with a look of anticipation.

Arthur shook his head. “No, I’m pretty free. Do you need something Chloe?” said Arthur.
Arthur could see the excitement in her eyes once he answered her. She was pumping her small hands up and down. “Daddy said after I finished eating. I can show you around the house,” said Chloe.
Arthur returned a small smile. “Ok. I’ll be waiting,” said Arthur.
Chloe quickly went to the table and started to eat the food that was left for her. Once she was done, she started to guide Arthur around the house. Arthur forgot how the house was compared to his old home. After leaving the kitchen, Chloe briefly showed the family room that he was familiar with, along with a guest room. Unlike the family room, it had multiple sofas and a table at the center of the room. It was close to the kitchen, like the family room. Chloe said that they decided to choose those names because of how they were used.
After moving from the guest room, Chloe guided Arthur into the basement. The basement was a little colder than the rest of the house. Arthur thought that it felt refreshing since it gave him a nice break from the summer heat. The basement wasn’t as big as Arthur thought it would be. The majority of it was empty space. Unlike the rest of the house, the basement had a large carpet over the floor. But what caught his attention was the tv and chairs that were at the center of it.
The first thing Chloe did once they reached the basement was drag Arthur to the edge of it. Where there were many different boxes stacked on each other. Chloe took a small one and opened it, inside there was a small train playset.
“Look, Arthur. My old train playset is still here,” said Chloe.
Arthur felt a little confused. “Is this what you wanted to show me Chloe?” asked Arthur.
Chloe put her hand to her chin as she looked at the train set. “Not really. Since Mommy and daddy are busy upstairs, they said I could play with you here,” said Chloe.
Arthur sat down and started to help Chloe take out the train set. “I don’t mind playing with you Chloe, I’m sure we can do the rest of the guide later,” said Arthur with a small smile.
Chloe happily nodded her head. Once they took out all the parts, she started to play with her hair while glancing at Arthur. “Is it okay that we do this again? When mommy and daddy are working, I get bored,” said Chloe.
Chloe reminded Arthur of himself when he was younger. He always felt a little lonely when his parents both weren’t able to make it home. Arthur thought he could maybe become the company that he never had for Chloe.
“Of course Chloe. I don’t mind playing with you,” said Arthur.
Chloe nodded in excitement. Arthur helped Chloe assemble the train set, and Chloe began to show him other things in the boxes.
The day passed with Arthur spending time with Chloe. Emilia prepared a small meal while Lucas left the house. Arthur asked Emilia, and she said that he was going to check on the store. Once the night arrived, Arthur was left with the same problem.
“It should be okay. I had fun with Chloe today. I’ll just think about my time here rather than the past,” thought Arthur as he laid down in his bed.
Arthur eventually fell asleep while trying to ignore the fear in his heart.
He woke up the following morning, but he felt that something was different. His body felt much weaker than yesterday, and he felt like something was missing.
“What’s happening to me?” said Arthur as he was getting up from the bed. His arms and legs felt heavy, almost like they suddenly got bigger.
Arthur chose to lie down for a little longer. He felt happy. For the first time after the accident, he didn’t have a nightmare about it or his parents. After some rest, he got out of bed to continue his day.
At first, he was in a good mood and having fun with Chloe, but it slowly got worse as the day passed. Throughout the day constant flashes of his memories appeared and disappeared in his head. His mother’s dying face continued to appear, like a ghost that's haunting him. Arthur felt worse and worse as the day continued on.
Once it reached the evening, Arthur felt exhausted. With the lack of sleep, he couldn’t be as energetic as he usually was. He tried not to change too much in front of Emilia and Lucas so he didn’t worry them. But the memories persisted throughout the day, leaving Arthur feeling terrible in the evening. He was currently cleaning his plates after eating dinner with everyone else. While he was cleaning, he felt a small tug at the end of his shirt.
Chloe was standing behind him. “Do you want to watch tv with me Arthur?” asked Chloe with a small smile.
Arthur nodded his head. “Sure Chloe, I have time,” said Arthur. He was hoping that Chloe could take his mind off the memories.
Once they reached the family room, Chloe and Arthur sat on the sofa as she found her favorite channel. Once Chloe started to talk to Arthur while watching it, the memories stopped appearing. With the memories gone, he started to enjoy his time with Chloe, but something changed when fire appeared on the screen.
The characters in Chloe’s show were sitting around a fire, but when Arthur saw the fire. He felt like his heart was being grabbed. Many memories flooded his mind as he looked at the television. He had a massive headache, and couldn’t help but hold his head to try and do something about the pain.
Arthur could hear Chloe calling to him, but the pain took most of his attention.
“Arthur, are you okay,” said Chloe.
She moved closer to him and watched him while asking. With the pain and constant memories, Chloe’s constant questions only annoyed Arthur. The only thing Arthur felt was the guilt from his parents' voices and the pain from his head.
“Chloe, be quiet. I don’t want to hear from you!” shouted Arthur.
Chloe’s face started to crumble, she began to tear up. Seeing her face, Arthur wanted to say something but the headache was still going on. Chloe began to cry and ran out of the room. After she left, his memories stopped appearing in his head and the pain went away.
Arthur thought about what he said to Chloe. “I didn’t mean to,” said Arthur.
While he was contemplating what he should do next, Emilia entered the room. Her eyebrows were knitted and her arms were on her side.
She walked in front of Arthur. “Arthur I understand that you aren’t at your best right now, but taking your feelings out on Chloe isn’t acceptable,” said Emilia.
“But I-,” said Arthur before he was interrupted.
“No, head to your room. We'll talk there,” said Emilia.
Arthur didn’t want to look her in the eye and started to head to the stairs. He felt betrayed as he started to walk up the stairs.
“She didn’t even listen to me,” thought Arthur.
While he was walking up the stairs, he heard talking from the kitchen. Emilia seemed to be talking loudly to someone.
“You have to talk to him, he doesn't seem to be ok! Haven’t you seen his face the past few days?” said Emilia.
“I know. I know, I think I understand what to do,” said Lucas.
Arthur quickly traveled up the stairs to his room. He knew that he shouldn’t have shouted at Chloe, but it was too late to take any back. He lied on his bed and started to think that hiding it wasn’t a good idea.
After a few minutes, Lucas slowly opened the door. He was wearing a light blue jacket with sweatpants. Arthur felt a little confused about what he was wearing.
“Aren’t we going to talk?” asked Arthur.
Lucas nodded and gestured toward the stairs. “Of course, but there is somewhere I wanted to show you first. So get ready and I will be waiting,” said Lucas.
Arthur changed his clothes and walked down the stairs to the front door, where Lucas was waiting. Down the hallway, Arthur could see Chloe looking at him, once they made eye contact she ran back into the kitchen.
“I’m gonna need to say sorry,” throughout Arthur.
Once both of them were ready they left the house and got into the car. As Lucas started to drive, Arthur asked a question.
“Uncle, where are you going?” asked Arthur.
Lucas released a small sigh. “Somewhere, I should have shown you a lot sooner,” said Lucas.
Arthur was confused. As he repeated the phrase in his head.
“Don’t worry too much, I think it’s somewhere your father may have wanted you to see,” said Lucas.
The car continued to drive in the orange light of the evening.
