Yang Xiao thought for a while and decided to follow the systems wishes for now. The system had already shown that it would give double the rewards for healing titles. For the moment the best thing to do would be to take advantage of that.
He was still just growing, there was no need to offend the system currently. Once he was a powerhouse then he could stop listening to the system. But currently if he joined a sect, his strength would only be average.
Of course average wasn’t bad, it was just that sects often existed for hundreds to thousands of years. So even if they were a small sect they would have a terrifying foundation. The foundation would be so terrifying that if they obtained a soul technique, they would probably have multiple people breakthrough to the soul combining realm in a few years..
That’s also why Yang Xiao would never show his ability to heal souls. A small sect would do everything to obtain his soul technique. And even a middle sized sect would still try to obtain it. Even as a nascent soul cultivator he might not be able to protect that technique, not to mention as a foundation establishment realm cultivator.
But that didn’t matter for now, it was just something he had to keep in mind. For now it was time to test his new alchemy skill. Luckily the villagers constantly gathered herbs, they didn’t use them for alchemy but mostly just ate them or grinded them into a paste and put them on wounds.
A treatment of herbs that most alchemists would probably despice. Those herbs weren’t very valuable, but from time to time the villagers accidentally found a valuable spirit herb. They didn’t recognize them as spirit herbs and simply threw them to the other herbs.
All they had was old records about herbs in the forest, and those records mostly just said what herbs were poisonous and what herbs were helpful. Those records wird gathered from generations of villagers, and Yang Xiao didn’t even wanna know how many villagers died on the poisonous herbs because they were curious and used it against their cough.
He thought that maybe he should teach the villagers about herbs. The forest seems to have an abundance of herbs, if they were able to recognize spiritual herbs then they could sell them.
But Yang Xiao was still confused, the forest has so many spiritual herbs. But he still never saw any sect disciples go in the forest to gather herbs. Did they not need herbs? Or did the iron mountain sect not have an alchemist?.
Yang Xiao knew that alchemists were rare, but he didn’t know how rare they were. But if the iron mountain sect really didn’t have an alchemist, then couldn’t he take advantage of that?.
He was a rank 3 alchemist, not to mention a rank 3 alchemist that had the standards of the systems rank 3. Meaning once he practiced a bit he might even have a chance at making rank 4 pills. So while the system gave him rank 3 alchemy, in the real world it would be almost rank 4 alchemy.

So he wasn’t worried about not being needed, a rank 4 alchemist would even get a nascent soul cultivators deepest respect. With that in mind he sneakily grabbed all the spiritual herbs from the villagers.
They were wasted on them anyway! He just took a look at records and it made him so made that he almost wanted to gather all villagers and give them a big scolding.
The Fire star herb, a herb extremely useful for a lot of pills and very valuable for fire cultivators was actually listed as spicy herb. It’s use was described as being able to make food or tea spicy.
It made him really mad, this was a fire star herb if he gathered a few other fire herbs he could make burning enlightenment pill, a pill that fire cultivators would fight to the death for.
A burning enlightenment pill was a really valuable pill, it was difficult to make and not many knew the recipe. It only had one function and that was make cultivators feel like they are burning to death. By experiencing the feeling of burning to death, fire cultivators could gain enlightenment amd strengthen their fire techniques a lot.
Of course it was also a form of self torture, and a lit of people weren’t willing to experience that just for some improvement that they might be able to achieve on their own if they cultivate enough.
Anyway the villagers actually had such a valuable herb here and used it as spice. But he was also confused, why did the forest have so many valuable herbs. He just was in the forest but he didn’t notice anything special about it.
And know he found out that the forest had enough spiritual herbs for the villagers to use them regularly as spice? And also why did no othet big force notice this? Of course all the spiritual herbs here were low rank ones. But you could still use low rank herbs for rank 3 pills. And for rank 4 pills you could use them as extra to make the pills have higher quality.
He decided that in the future when his cultivation was higher he would take a good look at the forest, to see if he would discover something.
Now it was pill making time, he didn’t have an alchemy furnace. But he didn’t need one, his memories had alchemy techniques of each element. As a wood cultivator he obviously would use the wood technique, and since he wouldn’t burn the herbs with fire techniques he didn’t need a furnace.
The wood type of alchemy worked pretty different then the fire one. Wood had a trace of the life element, and everything had life. You would wrap the herbs in your wood qi and slowly fuse them, because you fuse them through the life element the pill that was created still had life energy.
If you created a pill of perfect quality and planted it there would even be chance of herbs to grow from it. That was the difference between wood alchemy and fire alchemy. Fire burned the herbs and the rebuild them into a pill. While wood connected the herbs through the trace of life and fused them into a pill.
If there was a disadvantage about wood alchemy it would be that it was slower. You had to bath the herbs in the wood qi for a long time for them to be able to fuse.
With that in mind Yang Xiao started making pills, first pills of the first rank then the second and then the third. He wanted to try making a 4 th rank pill but it was impossible to make 4th rank pills with only low rank herbs. So he would have to go gather herbs himself, or visit the city and buy herbs.
He thought for a moment and decided to visit the city, he wanted to start building up his reputation as alchemist. He left some first rank pills back for the villagers and took the rest of the pills to the city. If his guess was right and the iron mountain sect had for some reason no alchemist, then he would be able to make tons of money soon.
