Beast Bound Ascendance
Tower of awakening

Tower of awakening

Awakening refreshed, Bane arose from his bed with the weariness of the previous night evaporated- the effects of the recovery pill evident in his body. Eager to attempt the barbarian squat once more, he sprang into action. This time, his execution mirrored Garrik's almost identically—each muscle flexed as he descended, his bones audibly protesting as he ascended. After completing five repetitions, he was utterly drained.

"I'm doing it much better now after fully grasping the foundations of this exercise," muttered Bane, almost breathless.

Pausing to consume the food the maid had left for him, Bane then wiped himself down with a damp cloth and swapped his attire for his training gear.

Before leaving he read another chapter of, The History of the Yobian Empire.

Arriving at the training ground earlier than the scheduled time, he watched in fascination as the soldiers honed their skills, his attention fixated on a youth battling a giant rock lizard. Enthralled by their dynamic battle, Bane observed how the boy deftly manipulated the earth element, mastering its use even further since saw him a month ago. Wielding a long halberd, he maintained a safe distance while dealing measured blows to his reptilian companion. Their interactions demonstrated strategic training, culminating in halting their attacks before inflicting harm.

For twenty minutes, Bane remained engrossed until a familiar voice broke his reverie. "Watching dominion seekers will always be entertaining." Startled, he turned to find Garrik approaching. Bane greeted him with a respectful bow, and a "Good morning, sir."

Garrik gestured toward the giant rock lizard. "That's a Stonewyrm, hails from the deepest caves, mostly found down south. A ferocious beast once it's fully grown, capable of destroying a full Tier 5 party. Owning one, like that lad over there, is a privilege of the highest order. Don't let yourself get caught up comparing to youngsters like him—it'll only hinder your progress."

"A Stonewyrm," Bane noted mentally, intending to educate himself about the kingdom's creatures. Interrupting his thoughts, Garrik tossed a hefty stick in his direction, and Bane caught it deftly.

"An hour of barbarian squats, then I've got a surprise for you."

"A surprise?" Bane's curiosity was piqued.

"Indeed. Today, we'll elevate you to a superhuman status by awakening you at the annual awakening ceremony."

Bane was taken aback by the announcement. The support and effort they were putting into him felt disproportionate to what he had achieved—saving Arya had resulted in them rescuing him at the end, so why were they the ones investing so heavily in his growth?

Expressing his gratitude through a bow, Bane thanked Garrik once more.

"Less thank you's, and more barbarian squats."

Without hesitation, Bane assumed the squatting position, while recalling last night's mental practice. Slowly he went down, but everything he did even down to the minute movements involved in the exercise had been perfect.

Garrik's astonishment was palpable. "A boy that has barely done any exercise shouldn't master the barbarian squat so perfectly on the second day of attempting it. The exercise demands resolute focus, mental understanding of the exercise, and precise control over your body, so how could this beanstalk do it?"

Garrik pushed his thoughts aside and told Bane to stop after an hour of doing barbarian squats.

"You've done well, boy. The control you have over your body is astonishing, a talent that many would envy. Now, let's do something more fun. Wash up, get dressed, and meet me at the estate entrance in an hour's time."

Bane rushed out of the training yard to follow Garrik's instructions.

"What a scary boy," thought Garrik as he watched the boy's back slowly disappear in the distance.

An hour later, Bane stood in front of the estate entrance, ready to set off.

Suddenly, a powerful whoosh of wind descended from the sky, nearly knocking Bane off his feet and filling the air with swirling dust.

"Scared, slum boy!" a familiar voice shouted amidst the gust.

Turning his gaze upward, Bane spotted his master, Garrik, seated atop a peculiar beast. The creature resembled a horse but was completely oversized, measuring two meters in both length and height. It sported wings on each side of its body and had an astonishing six legs. The creature's appearance was alien to Bane, yet it held a strangely captivating allure.

Waiting for the beast to touch down, Bane grinned with excitement. Once the creature landed, Garrik dismounted.

"The old man, Eston, loaned us his 'cute little horse.' Her name's Princess."

Bane examined the beast skeptically. "That looks like anything but a princess."

Garrik's laugh filled the air. "Old man Eston is known for his horrible naming sense, so don't judge princess so earnestly, beanstalk."

Bane scratched his head bashfully. "I'm sorry."

"Princess is what we call an Aerowing Pegasus. They're only found on the highest mountains in the west, the Restless Tops. Old man Eston is probably one of the few crazy enough to venture up there and tame one of these beasts. They're herd animals and quite strong, to boot."

Bane stared at the majestic creature before him, its wings stretched out, and its six legs planted firmly on the ground. The Aerowing Pegasus had a coat that shimmered in various shades of blue and silver, and its eyes held a glint of intelligence that captivated Bane's attention.

"Can I... can I touch her?" Bane asked hesitantly, his hand outstretched towards the creature.

Garrik chuckled, his rugged features softening with amusement. "Go ahead, boy. Just be gentle."

With cautious steps, Bane approached the Aerowing Pegasus. His fingers brushed against its sleek feathers, feeling the cool, yet surprisingly soft texture. Princess didn't flinch or shy away; instead, she seemed to acknowledge Bane's presence with a regal tilt of her head.

"She's magnificent," Bane breathed in awe, his eyes fixed on the creature's intricate patterns of color.

Garrik nodded in agreement. "Aye, that she is. And she's going to be our mode of transportation for a little adventure today."

Bane's heart raced with a mix of excitement and nervousness. The idea of flying on such a mythical creature was both exhilarating and terrifying. "Is it safe?"

Garrik patted the Aerowing Pegasus affectionately. "She's strong and smart, but she'll also be under my control. You've got nothing to worry about."

As Garrik mounted Princess, Bane hesitated for a moment before climbing on behind him, gripping the saddle tightly. The sensation of taking off was unlike anything he had ever experienced. The wind rushed past him, and the ground swiftly fell away as they soared into the sky.

From their vantage point, Bane could see the sprawling Yobian Empire below them, the city sprawling in all its grandeur. The walls of the city were impressive, rising high and formidable, offering protection to the inhabitants within. The buildings within the city were a mix of architectural marvels, a blend of stone and wood that created a vibrant tapestry of colors and designs. People moved like tiny ants through the streets, the city's heartbeat evident in their busy activities.

The city itself seemed to stretch endlessly, a sprawling labyrinth of markets, plazas, and residential areas. The main square was a hub of activity, with merchants hawking their wares, children playing, and performers entertaining the crowd. The royal palace stood as a symbol of authority, its grandeur matched only by the towering spires of the Great Library, where knowledge and wisdom were revered.

As they soared above the city, Bane's eyes widened at the bustling life below. The distinct neighborhoods with their unique architecture and cultural influences painted a vivid picture of a town steeped in history and diversity. The grand marketplaces were a riot of colors, filled with exotic goods from all corners of the kingdom.

"This... this is incredible," Bane shouted over the wind, a mixture of astonishment and joy in his voice.

Garrik laughed heartily, his voice carrying on the wind. "Told you it would be an adventure, didn't I?"

They spent hours exploring the skies above the city, Princess gracefully gliding through the air. Bane's initial nervousness gave way to pure exhilaration as he soaked in the breathtaking scenery and the freedom of flight.

As they began their descent back to the city, Bane's heart was still racing, and his face was flushed with excitement. Princess touched down gently just outside the city walls, her wings folding against her sides.

"Thank you, Princess," Bane whispered, patting the creature's side before dismounting.

Garrik dismounted as well, a pleased smile on his face as he watched Bane's excitement. "Seems like you enjoyed yourself, boy."

Bane couldn't contain his grin. "More than I could've imagined."

Garrik clapped Bane on the back. "Well, that's just the beginning. Your journey will be full of surprises, and you've got the potential to soar just like Princess here."

As Bane and Garrik entered the city gates, the bustling streets welcomed them with a vibrant cacophony of sounds and colors. Bane's eyes darted around, taking in the sights that were so foreign to him. The city was a melting pot of different races, each contributing their unique flavors to the diversity of the Yobian Empire.

Elves with their pointed ears and graceful demeanor walked by, their eyes carrying an air of wisdom and elegance. Dwarves, sturdy and robust, bustling about with their impressive craftsmanship, their beards adorned with intricate braids and metal trinkets. Bane even caught glimpses of other races he had only heard about in stories: the lithe and ethereal Fae, the scaled and enigmatic Draconians, and even the elusive and mysterious-looking hybrid people.

The shops that lined the streets were an eclectic mix of merchandise from all corners of the kingdom. Colorful fabrics from distant lands hung in stalls, their textures and patterns a testament to the craftsmanship of faraway weavers. Exotic spices filled the air with enticing aromas, and jewel-encrusted trinkets sparkled under the sun's warm glow.

Bane's steps were cautious as he navigated through the crowd, his gaze shifting from one race to another, each one fascinating and unfamiliar. Garrik walked with casual confidence, his rugged appearance seemingly blending into the diversity around him.

People of all races mingled freely, sharing stories and laughter, their differences celebrated and acknowledged. Bane couldn't help but feel like an outsider in this vibrant world, a sense of awe and a touch of insecurity settling within him. The bustling energy of the city felt overwhelming, and he struggled to keep up with the rapid pace of life around him.

Garrik noticed Bane's contemplative expression and slowed his pace, giving Bane a reassuring smile. "It's a lot to take in, isn't it?"

Bane nodded, his gaze still lingering on the diverse faces that surrounded him. "Yeah, it's... different to the slums I grew up in."

"Different doesn't mean bad," Garrik said, his voice gentle. "This city is a testament to the strength that comes from unity. People from all walks of life, all races, coming together to create something greater."

As they continued walking, Garrik pointed out various shops and landmarks, providing a brief overview of the city's layout and history. Bane's unease began to fade as he listened to Garrik's explanations, and he started to see the city through a different lens.

They passed by a food stall run by a jovial Dwarf who offered them a sample of his hearty stew. Bane cautiously took a bite, and the burst of flavors on his palate surprised him. He exchanged a smile with the Dwarf, appreciating the warmth of the interaction.

Further down the street, a group of Fae performers enchanted a small crowd with their ethereal dances and mesmerizing melodies. Bane watched in awe as they moved with a grace that seemed otherworldly.

As they walked, Bane's initial discomfort gradually transformed into curiosity. The unfamiliar became intriguing, the diversity inspiring. He realized that while he may not share the same background as the people around him, they were all united in their pursuit of life, love, and unity.

Garrik clapped Bane on the shoulder, bringing him back to the present. "Remember, Bane, the world is full of wonders waiting to be discovered. Embrace the differences, and you'll find that there's beauty in every corner."

Bane nodded with a newfound determination in his eyes. The city that had initially seemed alien and overwhelming now held the promise of adventure and growth. As they continued their stroll through the vibrant streets, Bane felt a sense of belonging slowly taking root, one step at a time.

As Bane and Garrik continued their journey through the bustling city, their path led them to a towering structure that seemed to touch the heavens. The Tower of Awakening, as it was known, stood with an air of ageless wisdom, its weathered stones carrying the weight of countless generations. It was a beacon of hope and potential, drawing Bane's gaze with a mix of curiosity and reverence.

Stepping through the towering entrance of the ancient tower, Bane's senses were immediately overwhelmed by the sight that greeted him. The vast interior was abuzz with the energy of children and adolescents, ranging in age from 10 to 18. Laughter, excited chatter, and the rustling of parchment filled the air as young minds eagerly sought to unlock their dormant abilities.

Amidst the hubbub, students formed clusters, huddled over scrolls, books, and grimoires, and engaged in animated discussions about spells, magical theories, and their dreams of mastering their newfound powers. Bane's eyes widened at the sight of children who were once strangers to mana now on the path to becoming formidable Awakeners.

Garrik's lips curled into a knowing smile as he observed Bane's reaction. "Welcome to the Tower of Awakening. This is where young minds come to discover their potential and awaken their latent abilities."

The interior of the tower was adorned with towering bookshelves, their shelves laden with ancient tomes, arcane texts, and volumes on various disciplines of magic. Sunlight filtered through ornate stained-glass windows, casting a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of colors across the chamber.

At the heart of the chamber stood a massive, awe-inspiring grey orb, suspended in mid-air. Its surface shimmered with a subtle, pulsating radiance, casting an enchanting glow that seemed to illuminate not only the room but also the dreams of those who gazed upon it.

Guiding Bane toward the orb, Garrik explained, "Behold the Nexus Sphere. It's a reservoir of untapped magical energy, a wellspring from which these young minds draw to awaken their abilities."

Bane's eyes remained fixed on the sphere, captivated by its mystique. "So, all these children are here to awaken, and to learn how to use their abilities?"

Garrik nodded, his gaze reflecting the profoundness of the moment. "Indeed. Each one of them possesses dormant talents waiting to be unveiled. Some will become skilled mages, others aura wielders, and a select few might even awaken as Dominion Seekers. The Tower of Awakening nurtures their potential and guides them on the path to mastery."

As Bane absorbed the scene unfolding before him, he felt a surge of inspiration.

As Bane's gaze continued to sweep across the chamber, his attention was drawn to a young boy, approximately 12 years old, walking toward the Nexus Sphere. Beside him was a figure who exuded an aura of wisdom and experience, their long robe and staff giving them an air reminiscent of the legendary wizard Gandalf.

The boy's eyes gleamed with a mix of excitement and nervousness as he stood before the radiant Nexus Sphere. The wise figure accompanying him placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, offering a gentle smile. Bane watched intently as the boy extended his hand and touched the surface of the sphere.

A moment of hushed anticipation followed, and then something extraordinary happened. A current of energy seemed to surge from the boy, rippling outward and connecting with the Nexus Sphere. Bane could almost see the threads of mana weaving between them, forming an intricate bond that transcended the physical realm.

The sphere responded, its radiant surface taking on a vibrant hue. The color green began to suffuse the once-neutral sphere, and the energy flowing between the boy and the sphere grew more pronounced. Bane felt the room resonate with a palpable energy, as if the very essence of magic was being channeled through this connection.

Garrik leaned in, his voice carrying a mixture of admiration and explanation. "Watch closely, Bane. This is the moment of Awakening. The Nexus Sphere reads the innate energy within the young one and reflects it in its color."

As the energy continued to flow, the green light deepened in intensity, illuminating the chamber with a verdant glow. The boy's expression shifted from uncertainty to wonder, his connection with the sphere filling him with newfound understanding.

"The color signifies the type of awakener the individual is destined to become," Garrik continued. "Green indicates an Aura User, someone who harnesses the world's energies to strengthen themselves physically. Blue represents a Mage, those who manipulate mana to cast spells and wield the elements. And if the sphere turns purple, it means the individual has the potential to become a Dominion Seeker, a master of beasts and spatial manipulation."

Bane's eyes remained fixed on the spectacle before him, utterly captivated by the boy's Awakening. It was a testament to the Tower's profound influence, nurturing the young minds of the kingdom and helping them embark on their magical journey.

As the exchange between the boy and the Nexus Sphere concluded, the green light began to subside, leaving a sense of harmony and fulfillment in its wake. The boy stepped back, his expression a mix of awe and realization. The wise figure offered a nod of approval, their eyes reflecting the boy's accomplishment.

"The Tower of Awakening guides these young souls to their rightful paths," Garrik murmured. "It's a place of discovery, where potential flourishes and destinies take shape."

As Bane continued to watch, the scene took an unexpected turn. The boy's expression twisted from awe to sudden agony, and his screams filled the chamber. The energy that had flowed so harmoniously moments ago seemed to be causing him immense pain. Bane's heart raced as he witnessed the distressing transformation unfolding before him.

In an instant, healers and attendants rushed to the boy's side, their urgent voices and gestures signaling the need for immediate intervention. Bane's grip on the railing tightened as he watched them work swiftly, their skilled hands focused on stabilizing the boy's condition.

Garrik's voice cut through the tension, his tone sober and informative. "Awakening isn't without its risks, Bane. While most individuals undergo the process smoothly, there are cases where the body struggles to adapt to the surge of magic coursing through it. These screams you're hearing are the result of mana veins forming within his body, connecting him to the magic of the world."

Bane listened intently, his eyes locked on the boy as healers worked tirelessly to ease his pain.

"In rare instances, the transformation can be too overwhelming for the body to handle," Garrik continued. "The influx of magic can cause severe strain on one's physical and magical systems. If the body can't cope with this transformation, the consequences can be dire."

As the healers managed to stabilize the boy, his screams gradually subsided. Bane's relief was palpable, but the gravity of the situation hung heavy in the air.

"Some awakenings can lead to permanent damage or even death if not handled swiftly and skillfully," Garrik explained somberly. "The Tower of Awakening has experienced healers on standby precisely for these situations. It's a reminder that while mana can bestow incredible power, it's not without its dangers."

Bane's gaze shifted between the boy and Garrik, a mixture of concern and understanding settling within him. The magical world he had entered was a realm of wonder and peril, where the pursuit of greatness was accompanied by risks that couldn't be ignored.

"The Tower of Awakening serves not only to awaken abilities but to ensure the safety and well-being of the young Awakened," Garrik concluded. "It's a delicate balance, guiding potential while safeguarding lives."

Bane nodded, his appreciation for the intricacies of this world deepening. The journey toward unlocking his own abilities suddenly felt more nuanced, fraught with challenges that extended beyond mere training and practice.
