Chapter 47: The First Threshold

Chapter 47: The First Threshold

In the following days, Roselle focused on restoring his God Energy, using it to strengthen the two Drunk Moon Vines—also known as the Bloodsucking Vines—and even the five Herculean Worker Ants, which were transformed into more robust creatures through God Energy enhancement.

Roselle was confident that now, if any man were bitten by these Herculean Worker Ants, which had grown formidable, they would no longer function as men. These ants had transformed from the size of mung beans and a fingertip length to the thickness of a pen and five centimeters long, thus becoming true giant ant kings.

Of course, by growing larger, they lost their concealment advantage, but given that a single Herculean Worker Ant could now lift a water-filled cup with its "god-like" strength, this disadvantage could easily be compensated. It's important to note that each ant was priced at only 10 points, suggesting that if Roselle acquired a dozen more of these powerful ants, they could potentially empty a jewelry store overnight. But of course, Roselle wouldn't engage in such activities, not wanting to attract the attention of the authorities.

"Awesome," Roselle exclaimed. By using God Energy enhancement, he managed to mutate and enhance his small collection of pet beasts, bringing a sense of satisfaction. Unfortunately, the only creature he couldn't enhance was the Ice Crystal Fish Mother. The system indicated his God Energy was far from sufficient to enhance such a spiritual creature. With these tasks complete, three days passed without his notice.

On the second morning, the rare sight of O'Neill, the rich second-generation heir, waking up early occurred, and he promptly called, announcing his arrival at Yulong Garden and that he was waiting downstairs at Roselle's place.

Roselle considered for a moment, realizing he hadn’t left anything unfinished. He packed his things and, along with Caesar, headed downstairs.

This time, O'Neill refrained from bringing his Porsche; instead, he came in a stretched white Lincoln limousine. Roselle didn't know its exact value but felt the wealth and resources of a powerful family. Although O'Neill was a third-generation direct descendent of the Jiang family, he mainly indulged in a life of leisure, yet had access to such resources.

The depth of such a powerful family's resources inspired Roselle, cultivating in him the ambition to one day possess a deeper foundation than these powerful families, to wield power without being bound by common laws or rules—a life of idealistic freedom he yearned for.

To live a leisurely and untroubled life, one must possess extraordinary strength; otherwise, it isn't true freedom but merely escapism. If troubles arise, one remains at the mercy of fate. True freedom lies in controlling one’s destiny, and Roselle believed he had the confidence and the time to achieve this. He was certain he would live longer, driven by the evolvement of the Wu-refining and Spirit-cultivating technique nearing completion.

Moreover, over these days, he was not idle. His ten-tailed Ice Crystal Fish produced one spiritual energy bead every three hours. In 72 hours, or three days, he had amassed thirty beads in his test tube container. With sustenance from the extensive meat consumption, his second blue scale solidified, and while the third blue scale had not yet appeared, the faint lines indicated its emergence. Overall, Roselle felt more grounded, with a greater accumulation of foundation than ever before, naturally leading to increased strength.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"How did you manage to get in here? Did the security at Yulong Garden let you in just because of this white beast?" Roselle's expression turned sour as he pointed to the stretched Lincoln.

If this was indeed the case, he would need to report this to the management—so much for high-alert security! Was this the result of the so-called high-frequency, around-the-clock patrols by three security teams?

"Boss, where's your mind at? I have a place here too! Yulong's security is decent in Jingnan; I've just always preferred staying in hotels. Living alone doesn't compare to the comfort of having service girls at a hotel," O'Neill boasted.

"Oh," Roselle nodded. "I see." "There’s no need to brag about where you live."

Roselle relaxed, saying lightly, "I don't understand why you're concerned about security when you're so skilled and have Caesar the polar bear protecting you."

O'Neill rarely expressed admiration. They bantered briefly before getting into the car. A touch of a button lowered a bulletproof tinted glass, completely isolating them from the driver.

The interior of the Lincoln was undoubtedly soundproof, making their conversation inaudible to anyone outside unless they were intentionally shouting.

Inside the car was another young man, around 25, with a sharp presence and laser-focused eyes that assessed Caesar like a peregrine falcon.

After they all settled, the wealthy heir O'Neill brought out some red wine and cigars, relaxing the atmosphere.

"Hehe, let me introduce you all. This is the warrior I hired, his name is Zhangzhou, quite capable. Hmm, Zhangzhou, this is Caesar, you can consider him your colleague. And as for this gentleman, you can tell from the address he's my boss," O'Neill introduced.

Zhangzhou gave Roselle, a young man, a surprised glance, nodding slightly in greeting. His gaze then shifted to Caesar, clearly drawn to Caesar’s imposing presence.

Roselle returned the greeting with a polite smile, letting Caesar and Zhangzhou size each other up while he and O'Neill discussed the first hurdle in the competition for poppy quotas.

This initial hurdle to compete for the poppy share wasn’t overly demanding in terms of requirements, with only two conditions. However, these conditions barred many in China's market from entering this business despite their eagerness.

The first requirement: a bank deposit of at least 50 million in cash.

Theoretically, for the numerous wealthy individuals in China, this isn’t a high threshold—possibly even low. However, it's crucial to remember this pertains solely to cash deposits, not net worth, meaning even those with large businesses might struggle to mobilize 50 million in available cash quickly. Some entrepreneurs with assets over a billion may not have that liquidity on hand.

The second requirement: the combat representative you send, while unlimited in number, must win five battles in the first elimination round without losing any. Victory can be consecutive or accumulative, but losing even once results in elimination.

If you have multiple combat representatives, you can place your hopes on another if one falls, which is why O'Neill hired Caesar despite already having Zhangzhou. Regardless of Zhangzhou's confidence in crossing the first hurdle, having an additional advancing representative increases their chances.

This indicates O'Neill, typically laid-back and carefree, genuinely wants to accomplish something. No man willingly tolerates being labeled a wastrel or a second-generation scion.

While a life free from responsibility and solely focused on enjoyment is indeed more comfortable than seeking challenges, sometimes people are driven by their aspirations or perhaps nothing specific at all, yet they still want to strive for something.

"Boss, what do you think of Caesar’s chances? I know Zhangzhou's capabilities; he's sure to clear the first elimination hurdle," O'Neill said seriously, momentarily shedding his usual frivolous demeanor.

"Frankly, I can’t gauge Caesar’s chances until he’s out there fighting. I don’t know much either. We’ll know once we reach the elimination venue," Roselle replied with a calm smile.
