Chapter 10: It is Over
Jade
I had somehow lived through the events of the school invasion and was making a slow recovery in the medical bay. Things at the school were trying to go back to normal but according to everyone I saw things were still rocky, the morale of the school was now at an all time low, mainly due to so many of everyone’s friends dying. But there was another reason, John and Benton were expelled due to breaches in privacy, and verbal misconduct with an authority figure. They were both gone, and things were not the same for a lot of people, they were pretty much the leaders of the school at that point. But we had to move on, one person who wasn’t able to was Emily, she was crushed. No matter how much she denied it John was someone she cared about, she couldn’t get over the fact that the one boy mature enough to overlook the fact that she was one of the few girls in this school was gone for good, Things would never be the same.
Emily
It had been a week since the attack and people were slowly recovering, physically and emotionally, things since then were rough, losing so many people was affecting everyone. classes had finally resumed and the simulation battles continued but the scars of people being gone never healed, new students were bought in to replace the gone ones in an attempt to seem like the school was still bustling with life.
I saw Jade waiting just outside my battle plan class, she looked better than she had done for the whole week, you could see she was happy to be moving again. “Hey, wassup?” her mood was very chirpy and uplifting, I needed some of that after losing my friends “Not much just waiting for class to go in. how’s everything healing up?” she smiled “Great actually, bullet wounds basically fully closed up, I can finally stop wearing that stupid bandage!” I grinned at her in delight “Also, someone left you a present, he wanted me to give it to you when I got medically cleared.” She handed me folder, it was stacked with documents. “What’s in it?” she seemed just as confused as I was “He said you would like to finish it, said it was a way back in if you could do it. He said to work on it in private and consult the principal when you needed.” I was worried it must be illegal or something, but if it would get John back, I’d do it. “thank you, it means a lot.” She smiled at me and walked away. It was time to figure out what happened to John.
Benton
I had been home for nearly a week, and I was going crazy, I missed out on my one opportunity to be in battle school. All because I tried to do the right thing, it was whatever though, the countries economy needed people since so many people were going to battle school. People in every industry were needed could be what I wanted to be, even if what I wanted was to be was a good soldier. It didn’t matter though, it was better do deal with things I have control over, rather than things I don’t. at this point it was the only thing keeping me sane. I then got a knock on my door, figured it was the postie delivering a package but to my shock I was greeted by John. “What’s going on cunt?” he laughed after saying it, he knew for a fact it was my favourite line and it would give me a good chuckle. “Fucken John mate, long time no see. Where have you been?” he looked shockingly cheery given the circumstances “at home really, just letting my leg fully heal and stuff. You know the usual” I had to know what was up with him “What drugs did they put on? You are way to chirpy for what’s going on?” he smiled at me, he knew something I didn’t. “If everything goes to plan, we will be able to get back into battle school.” I tilted my head in confusion “What do you mean? How do we do that?” he chuckled “We don’t have to do anything, I left Jade with our evidence and data, she will give it to Emily soon if she hasn’t done it already.” My face dropped, he didn’t realise it, but he was putting Emily at risk of the same fate we got. “You can’t do that, if she gets caught, she will suffer the same fate we did. I don’t want that, she doesn’t deserve that.” John looked at me confused “But your dream is to be a soldier? She will be willing to do it, and she is smarter than either of us.” He didn’t get it, mine and Johns skills were not enough to get us out of our predicament and now he was pulling her into it “She will get caught, she will have to undergo all the investigations on her own and manage everything else. As much as she is smart, she is also not invincible, she will eventually fall apart and get kicked out.” although his face had dropped, he remained confident. “She won’t be doing it alone, Daniel is still there and there are others that will join her.” I knew for a fact that it would go down poorly, not even we could get enough people we trusted to join us, it was too risky for anyone. The only reason we were doing it is because we had nothing to lose. The others didn’t deserve that. “We cannot let our people clean up our mess, it’s not up to them.” John looked at me disappointed but understanding “I just wanna get back in.”

I had just finished a battle with my team, ever since John and Benton left however the team wasn’t as strong as it once was. We were losing more games than we were winning now and our positive ratio was diminishing fast, the replacements we had gotten for those we had lost during the attack were not only untrained but as dense as you can get. There’s a reason that only the top students from every school got picked and now the standards had dropped. I wanted my people back, but we can’t have them. The Captain was taking it harder than anyone, losing 6 of his hard-working soldiers was breaking him down slowly. He dismissed everyone after a long talk about the performance and how it needed to improve, but he knew that it wouldn’t. I was greeted at the exit by Emily she stood at the door prompting me to follow her, I obliged following her most of the way through the school. I asked constantly where we were going, she reassured me that I was safe and not to worry as we would be there soon. We arrived at one of the classroom blocks, C block to be specific, it was towards the front of the school well away from most of the people our age she opened up an unlocked empty classroom, “Go on then” She prompted I walked in hesitantly she followed. “Okay now that there is no chance of anyone hearing us, I need your help to get John and Benton back.” She had my attention. “And how do we do that?” I asked cautiously “We need to expose the commander for his crimes against personal privacy.” I took a deep sigh “You realise were committing the schools equivalent of treason right?” She grinned “I know, isn’t it beautiful?” I could tell she was joking but it wasn’t funny to me, “I could get in trouble just being in here with you talking about this. There is no way, as much as I miss Benton and John, I’m not putting my position at risk to save them if it’s not certain that it will work.” She looked at me disappointed “It’s not just for them, the commanders corrupt, and I can tell you why but you have to help me.” I sighed again and gave in “Fine, but only if I get to save our people as a whole, not just John and Benton, I do this for the greater good.”
