Watching and waiting
Facing towards a certain planet two unmoving shapes floated, they seemed to be watching something intently, one of the shapes was glowing with a soft white light, while the other was barely visible against the backdrop of space, only noticeable by the lack of stars and a slight portion of the planet’s moon cut off by its presence.
The darker of the figures turn to the other, “I don’t like this”, it said in a petulant tone of voice, the other’s light flickered as it moved in a manner that suggested it had just crossed its arms.
“What, you know I’m right, the council has already made it hard for us to do this much, he’s our son he should be with us, then he could actually be ready”, it said shaking what passed for its head.
“We can’t disobey the council”, the other figure sighed eventually, the higher pitch suggesting this figure was female. “I don’t like it either, but we got in enough trouble with his brother, it isn’t like it’s been bad for him, being independent for these last few years”.

“That’s true I suppose, he’s tougher than Dylan was”. The dark figure grudgingly agreed with his brighter counterpart, “Still would have been safer to bring him with us but I gotta admire the kid’s ability to just roll with the punches”.
“Are you finished with the preparations? It’s happening tonight after all.” The glowing figure asked sounding slightly amused as she watched what was happening below.
“Sure, sure my people are standing by how about yours, as full of themselves as ever, ready to act like heroes while we do all the dirty work that might stain their little white outfits?” The other replied in kind.
“Jealousy isn’t becoming dear”.
“Ouch, someone’s touchy today but all jokes aside, yes we’re as ready as we’ll ever be”, the dark figure said ducking its head slightly. “Now all we have to do is wait”.
The white figure nodded and the two stayed floating there silently for a while, before she slowly faded out. The darker on stayed there for a few moments more before saying, “Happy Birthday kiddo, and sorry but it’s gonna be a rough one”, as the stars started shining through where he once was.
