A bad Idea

A Bad Idea

Jacob quietly entered the alley once more, he knew full well this wouldn’t end well for him, the group of would-be rapists outnumbered him six people to one. He would have to use the element of surprise to even have a chance of slowing them down enough to make a difference.

His knowledge of fighting was limited but his dad had shown him a few tricks, his long limbs moving with a steady grace showing his son how to move around people always keeping one man between him and the rest. He left had left him with one final piece of advice, “Fighting fair’s all very well and good for boxers and the like but if you’re ever in a dangerous situation the best thing you can do is make sure the other guy is out of the fight no matter how brutal your methods and use the environment to your advantage if possible.

As he snuck down the alley he heard an indignant screech coming from the girl, but despite knowing what it probably meant he didn’t rush, he reached the corner that led further into the alley and quickly peeked around before setting his sights on the man closest to him, his face darkening further at the sobbing sounds coming from the girl.

Moving swiftly toward the distracted man he lashed out with a kick knocking the man towards several of his friends in the hopes of slowing them down, surprised yelps erupting form them as they collided sending one of them sprawling.

The large man who had struck one of the others earlier turned his head his grip on the girl loosening in surprise, and she lashed out clawing at his eyes, he rolled on his back swearing as blood oozed down his face as he reflexively covered his injuries.

After sending the first guy stumbling into his mates, Jacob had roughly charged into another knocking him into a nearby wall, the man lashing out towards him, slamming his fist into Jacobs shoulder, after he hit the wall Jacob grabbed him by the head only to smash it into the wall again only to be grabbed by one of the others, he quickly lashed with an elbow before the man could tighten his grip throwing his body backwards in attempt to dislodge him.

This succeeded briefly but before he could follow up one of the men that he had sent the first guy sprawling towards landed a blow across his face, snapping Jacob’s head back and almost bringing him to his knees.

‘Must stay standing’, Jacob thought blinking away tears, as he tried to distance himself from the two angry drunken men. He noticed the girl had leapt on the man who had been raping her tears running down her face as she struck him again and again while the others were distracted by Jacob’s interruption.

‘If I stop now there’s no way either of us get out of this’, his mind racing as he quickly brought his fists up in something vaguely resembling a fighting stance most of the men closing in on him.

‘Course I’m probably still not but I’m not leaving her here’, he told himself moving as his father taught him, weaving through as many blows as he could, taking more than a few as he did so.

He continued to endure the assault as best he could as one of the men broke off, having noticed the girl attacking his friend, Jacob gritted his teeth as he was in no situation to do anything about it, his face bruised and his knuckles bleeding as he held his ground as best as he could.

The man reached the girls side and proceeded to rip her off his friend by the hair her screams echoing throughout the dark alley. Jacob’s heart sank, ‘Where are the cops,’ he wondered taking yet another blow across the ribs from one of the men who received a quick kick in return. ‘At this rate they’re not going to make it in time.’ He thought coughing from the previous blow, his heartbeat thundering in his ears.

It had only been a couple of minutes since he had kicked the first man but already, despite being drunk they were starting to regroup despite Jacob doing his best to take advantage of this.

However shortly after this he thought this he heard a sound over the girl’s screams that he thought might be sirens. His suspicions quickly confirmed by the swearing of the men one even turning and running towards the far end of the alley as the others looked to the big man, who seem ed to be their leader, he was staggering to his feet now that the girl had been pulled off him and he quickly delivered a punishing blow, sending blood from a split lip spattering the ground.

“This shit called the cops”. One of the men cried as he launched himself forward trying to knock Jaco to the ground. The leader whipped the blood from his ripped face as the girl whimpered, he turned to glare at the man who shouted as Jacob quickly stepped back barely dodging the tackle.

“No shit, too bad for him we can still finish him before they get here”, he snarled.

Jacob’s heart sank as the other men grinned at this announcement. The other men all leapt forward at once this time one of them succeeded at knocking Jacob off balance and he was soon knocked to the ground.

“Better make this quick”. The large man said pulling a pocket knife from one of his pockets. Jacob increased his struggles as the other men held him down. The girl started screaming again as the man stalked closer a menacing grin on his face, some of the other men paled at the sight of this grin and one of them spoke out. “Boss you sure about this maybe we should stop, the cops could catch us now we should be making tracks”.

The leader ignored him as he stepped closer to the thrashing Jacob, the girls screams somehow still increasing in volume as she scratched the nervous man still holding her by the hair.

‘The sirens are getting pretty loud now’, thought Jacob as he desperately struggled against the three men holding him down. The leader drew his leg back before sending his foot smashing into Jacob’s face.

Jacob vision blackened as the leader crouched, the leer on his face getting even wider with his injuries he looked insane. His friend slowly let go of the prone Jacob as his head was pulled up revealing copious quantities of blood running from his broken nose before the leaders’ knife flashed once leaving a gaping hole across his throat.

Jacob’s last thoughts as he watched the blood pool around him with failing vision was, ‘this was a bad idea’.
