Chapter 9: Back to Cinnabar Island

Chapter 9: Back to Cinnabar Island

Cyrus' Monologue

Why did I agree to Giratina and the rest? I could have just stayed in Reverse World.

Now, I'm under restraint, and I have to fulfill this dumb deal or else I'll die.

So some God is trying to consume this world, huh? And that God summoned something dangerous inside the Pokemon World, producing something in the air, sea and land that totally rejects Legendaries and weakens the Mythicals? How in the world can an alien do that, making Arceus' created world to turn against it?

I can't believe Arceus and the rest couldn't do something about it.

So legendaries cannot enter this world while Mythicals are clearly biting the dust soon if nothing is done...

Why do they have to split their Pokessences into two equal parts? How can they even do it?

Ah, I remember. Giratina said that half of their Pokessence will form their Pre-Ascended forms so that they can get inside the Physical World and destroy those alien invaders, and half will remain in its original body to help Arceus in fighting the 'Alien God'. But how can they do that if they will lost their memories in the process? Will they just leave it to the Chosen ones to make their half stronger? And recover their memories in the process? That's risky!

I guess the other half inside the Physical World will not be legendary anymore or else it will just be rejected by the world, noh?

Well, they're the one who made the plan, so I guess they have the means to do it.

I wonder how the other half of Giratina looks like when he is in its Pre-Ascended form? Maybe a centipede? Well, he looks like one, though.

I can understand others choosing the other nine, but why is Giratina choosing this weak person?

Well, at least I can still fulfill my wish of ruling the world after this fiasco, I wonder how's Cynthia and that dumb Ash...

They were now standing infront of each other, a man and a young adult, under the bright moon. The winds suddenly howled and a bird-like Pokemon landed beside him. He waved his hand and introduced himself, "Hi, I'm Cyrus."

Archer put his guard up, prepared to scream loudly if the spike-haired guy would do anything improper. He turned his xtransceiver on, the way Ritchie had shown him, ready to call his number. "Stay put. Don't move. Tell your Pokemon to behave as well."

Cyrus raised his hands up, still smiling innocently, as he stood still. "I mean you no harm, my friend. I just wanted to meet you so that I can deliver this package to you." He leaned his body towards the bluish-black bird with a hat, and whispered something. The Pokemon nodded, shouting, "Honchkrow!"

What's happening with the Guardian notes? Not that I am complaining, though. Hmm, so I should be aware of its summoning call, or I might be swarmed by its flock of Murkrows.

Archer discovered that he could just take out the book using his mind, so it was not a hassle for him to use this everytime he wanted some data. "Please don't let your Honchkrow call his feathery subjects or I'll shout. I can shout really loud, trust me."

Cyrus chuckled. "Don't worry. My Honchkrow will not harm you, I give you my word."

"I don't trust you, Cyrus. Please understand. I will not get that package until you tell me what it is."

"Sure," Cyrus conceded. "Since you wanted me to be direct, then I will be straightforward with you. I want you to have this as your starter Pokemon."

"But why?"

"A part of the deal. A deadly deal I'd say." Cyrus offered the box to Archer and said, "Take this or else I'll tell everyone of your friends that you were lying and have been deceiving them from the very start."

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"Really...hmm, okay to convince you, I'd like to tell you a wonderful story. A guy from a certain world appeared in this world, I think it was inside the Pokemon Mansion. Of course, he successfully escaped from that place because it is not his destiny to die there. Next, he met many people, and convinced them of his pitiful situation with lies and deception. I think I've seen one of them earlier. I could just visit him right now. Don't you think so, the illegal one?" Cyrus narrowed his eyes as he looked at Archer seriously.

Archer was wide-eyed, his heartbeat pulsing rapidly as he felt his body went stiff. "How did you know that? Are you spying on me? Who the fuck are you?!"

"Look, I do really mean it when I said to you that I've meant no harm. Let us just say I'm the messenger of the Guardians. Would you believe me, Archer Sullivan?"

"Ugh. You are more convincing when you put it that way." Archer grabbed the package and scrutinized it. It was heavy, despite its small size. He said that this is to be my starter Pokemon, but why can't I sense its movement?

Archer shook it lightly, hearing a small 'thud' sound. Puzzled, he was about to open the box when Cyrus stopped him.

"Do not open it yet. It's a type of fossil, an ancient Pokemon. We have to bring it to a certain laboratory in Cinnabar Island so we can revive it."

"I didn't know there was a lab in that island."

"Now you know. It seems that your fate with Cinnabar Island is really strong."

Archer couldn't help it but give a snigger. "Yes, and I was planning to go there after registering my citizenship. How are we traveling?"

"With my Honchkrow, by Fly. Have you finished your business here in Pallet Town?"

"Nope. Can we go tomorrow? I still have to get my free Pokeballs and bid goodbye to a friend of mine."

"Sure." Cyrus gave his contact details to Archer. "Call me when you're ready."

Archer agreed as he saw Cyrus going inside the house together with Honchkrow. It was almost 11 PM, and he needed to take a rest for he felt drained. He put the box inside his bag and ran all the way until he arrived at the inn, without stopping. Opening the door, he caught sight of a few people eating and drinking at the table, while a certain lady, dressed in a maid outfit, was standing at the counter while carrying a tray full of food. He paced forward and stopped at the bar, asking her, "Hello, is there a vacant room available?"

"Yes, my lad. Wait for a bit, I just need to serve this to a customer, okay?"

"Sure." Archer sat down and waited for the lady to come back. He leaned his head against the table and closed his eyes for a bit.

- Hey -

"Uhm."

- Hey, wake up, it's not good to sleep here -

"What, I'm getting comfy here, with - " Archer roused himself as he remembered that he was still at the counter. He wiped the drool off his face, checking his bag if anything was stolen. Upon making sure that nothing was lost, he sighed in relief. "Sorry. Have I been sleeping for too long?"

"No, sweetie, just for an hour." She laughed playfully, seemingly amused by him. "Let just make this fast. How many days are you going to stay?"

"Just for this night. You serve breakfast?"

"Yes. It's 50 Poke, food and drinks included. Check-out time is 11:30 AM."

"Do I have to pay it now?"

"Yes, dear."

Archer opened his knapsack and took out 100 Poke. "Do you allow take-outs?"

"Yes, honey. You want one?" the girl asked as she gave him the key to his room.

"Yes, please do. Make it two meals for tomorrow's breakfast and one take-out."

"Sure," she confirmed. "It's room 5. There's a label on each door. Just walk straight ahead, then turn left as you see the first room. The end of the hallway is your room, you can't miss it," she instructed. "Anything you want, maybe some special service?"

"Thanks, but no thanks." Archer shook his head as he followed her directions until he reached room 5, opened the door with the key, and flopped on the bed after locking it. Soon enough, he was snoring out loud.

Archer waited at the sanctuary, feeling refreshed and satiated. He was able to sleep for about 9 hours, ate a meal that was good for two, and now ready for any journey that he might have for the rest of the day. It was now 9:58 AM, and the village was filled with people. Kids were playing along the street as the vendors shouted for their goods to be sold. Two bird-like Pokemon perched side by side on a tree as they chirped, as if singing a melody, but he did not bother looking for its information in the book. He was looking around while sitting until he saw his friend.

"Shane, I'm here!"

"Coming!" Shane sprinted as he saw Archer. "So, how are you? Feeling good?"

"Better than ever."

"That's good. Anyway, here's your five Pokeball, courtesy of Professor Oak Lab. Too bad there was an emergency and  he had to travel last night, and the only thing he was able to prepare was these Pokeball."

"It's fine. So when will I get my Pokedex and other stuffs?" Archer inquired.

"As soon as he comes back, not later than Friday. So within four days."

"Alright. Anyway, I'll be going back to Cinnabar Island with a friend."

"Really? Is it Ericka?" Shane sneered, as if trying to tell him something.

Archer raised his brows while smirking. "Nobody wants to date an amnesiac person like me, okay. It sounds troublesome. So, where will I look for you if I decide to come back here in Pallet Town?"

"At Professor Oak Lab. Just call me in case you can't find me there." Shane punched him lightly. "So, take care, my young friend."

"Yes, take care, old friend."

Archer found out that Cyrus was already waiting for him at the house near the inn. "So, let's go?"

"You sure are enthusiastic, unlike last night," Cyrus uttered as he petted his Honchkrow, which was eating some sort of a seed. Somehow, he was able to discern that Archer was curious with what he was feeding to his Pokemon, he explained, "This is a Pokeblock. If you want to learn more about it, just enroll at the Pokemon Training School. Since you are already registered, the tuition is free."

"That sounds great."

"Yeah, it is. So have you traveled using Fly?"

"This is my first time," Archer answered truthfully. "I've done Surf yesterday and it felt like crap."

"Well, if you are acrophobic, then of course Fly is gonna be crappier for you. It's easy, all it takes is just a pint of courage and a bunch of training to let you enjoy the experience."

"That sounds...reassuring. So what now?"

Cyrus gave him a pill before riding on Honchkrow's back. "Do not take the pill unless you feel nauseated. Trust me, it's much better to be used to Fly normally than to depend on a pill for comfort."

"I guess so."

"Come up. Let's not waste time anymore."

"Here we go."

"Wait, wait, wait. WAIT! WAAAIIIIIT! AAAAHH!"

"Bleeergh! Bleergh!"

Archer kept on vomiting; all the food he had eaten for breakfast earlier was spewed out. He retched while holding his stomach, feeling miserable, as his eyes were filled with tears. "I'll never ride on a bird again."

"Why didn't you take the pill like I told you so?"

"It fell down."

Cyrus cracked up a bit as he left Honchkrow near the Fossil Lab. "Come, let us go inside and revive that Pokemon."

Archer felt ecstatic upon remembering their purpose in coming here. He quickened his steps and followed Cyrus. Inside, the office was clean and well arranged. It was well-ventilated and adorned with plants. Paintings of nature were posted on the walls. The place was just like any normal office, except for the large device installed at the area with an 'Off-Limits' sign plastered on it.

Cyrus signaled Archer to come and greeted the personnel working at the Off-Limits area. "Hello. I would like to inquire about your 'Revive Fossil' services."

"Sure. It's 500 Poke per fossil. Reviving time might take an hour or two, depending on its rarity," The worker informed Cyrus as he took out some papers. "Please fill this out so we can process your request as soon as possible."

"Thank you."

Cyrus transferred the paper to Archer. "Since you're the one who is going to own it, then you're the one who's paying it."

Archer grumbled as he wrote his personal details on the application form. "Erm, uhhh...Cyrus...there's something I need to tell you."

"What? Anything but money."

"Ugh, the thing is, I don't have much money. You know for a fact that I'm just a 2 day-old citizen here in this world," Archer reasoned out to him.

"Oh, yeah, you're right, I totally forgot. How about this, I'll lend you money, then pay it back when you earn something. You can't hide from me anyway."

"Ugh...do I have a choice?" Archer took out the box from his bag and handed it to the employee. He saw Cyrus paid the bill and went inside a room.

After a few minutes, Cyrus left the room and approached him. "They said that the procedure would take a long while, since it was their first time seeing such fossil. So where would you plan on waiting?"

"I'll just wait at the resting area," Archer replied.

Cyrus shrugged his shoulders. "Okay. I'm going to the Pokemon Center. Be right back."

- Sir -

"Huh?"

- Sir, your Pokemon is ready. -

The very words jolted Archer back into reality. He grabbed his bag and followed the worker outside the resting area, and saw Cyrus looking at the beetle-like Pokemon, seemingly laughing.

Its shell was covered with thick, red stripes, and its triangular head and yellow, sharp jaw moved slowly like a robot. Suddenly, black wings, like that of a bat, protruded out of its back, and flew around, as if searching for something, until it stopped infront of Archer. He felt that something inside his clothes was vibrating as its red eyes met his gaze.

The book? Why is it shaking so much?

The critter floated in the air until it landed on his head.

"Gi...gi...gi..."

"Gi..ra...Gi...ra..."

"Girana!"
