Adachi Kinji’s Perspective
“Aaaaaaaa.. What a nice day it is.” I am colonel Adachi Kinji of the Black Coat infantry 16. I have been in this job for as long as I remember and I have a history of having my nice days ruined and today is no exception either.
A soldier came to me and saluted, he then went to announce, “Colonel Adachi, Lieutenant Shoji have ordered your presence sir. He asked you to be present immediately.”
“Sigh.. here we go again. I will be there now.” I slowly got up and bid farewell to my nice day because Lieutenant Shoji only asks for my presence when there is some dirty job to be carried out. On my way there I noticed that there were already a lot of soldiers starting to assemble outside the Office.
It's a shame that I am at the colonel position but I am only let onto these things at the last moment. “Do they not trust me enough?” I slowly went upstairs to the Office while scratching my head.
I saluted the Lieutenant as soon as I entered the room, “I am here Lieutenant as you requested my presence.”
The whole aura there is something different today and I don't have a good feeling about the job that I will be completing today. Lieutenant Shoji Hiro, he is one of the church's favorites and holds a lot of say in Black Coats as a whole. His power is also something else, rumors of him taking down thousands of demons alone have turned him into a living legend. But as someone who works with him.. I am not one bit proud or happy.
Lieutenant was reading the Enmoto bible by the window like he always does before a mission. He slowly turned the page and his eyes turned towards me, “Adachi, I guess you already know why you are here.. There is a mission. We have an order from the Church of Sarton that demons are attacking Orillion at today afternoon and we have to slay them after they have destroyed Orillion.” He closed the book and took a long sigh as he walked from the window to his table.
What bullshit is he talking about, slaying demons after Orillion is burned down?
“Umm.. Sir, I think I misheard something. We have to evacuate the town before the attack, right.” I needed to make sure what I heard was correct was not.
Lt. looked towards me as we made eye contact, “You heard nothing wrong, leave orillion to be destroyed and then slay the demons to stop them from reaching Sarton. That is the exact order from the Church.”
I just stood there looking right into his eyes. I have been to countless missions by now but this is the first time I am receiving such an absurd order.. But, none of it matters to me even then I need to know WHY.

“Hah.. It’s fine I will do as your church says, Shoji. But tell me the reason.” I kept looking at him with dead eyes. Shoji and I had a past and he knows why I am always following his and his stupid churches order.
“Hmmm.. reasons. Do you really not understand? You do know the reason, right?” Shoji stood from his seat and started looking for his cigar in the cupboards. I know the reason.. I know why the church wants Orillion to be burned down and I will be letting them do it anyways.
“Is it because of Deminins?” I was truly disappointed, not in myself but the church and Black coats itselfs. They disgust me but I will have to carry out these orders.
“You are right Adachi.. But why do you have that look of disgust on your face?” Shoji lights his cigar and takes a deep breath of it, “The church wants the Deminin people killed. Afterall, they are just pests that have infested Enmoto for all these years and the Church doesn't want pests to be living close to it. So, they are using this attack as an excuse and letting the Demons destroy all of Orillion.”
The room was filled with smoke and there was complete silence. Deminin people are the refugees from the Kingdom of Doveston. Hundreds of years ago Doveston was destroyed completely by Demons and these remaining people were taken in by the King of Enmoto at that time. All of the Deminin people settled Around many coastal towns with a large number of them residing in Orillion. These people get jobs of small status in the Kingdom simply because the Church sees them as unholy and a lower race. Their past is filled with pain, their present lives are filled with pain and now they will die in PAIN.
“I.. I will get this mission completed.. We just have to kill demons, right? It will be completed.” my voice teared through the smoke filled room, “I hope you haven’t forgotten your promise to me.. I am carrying out dirty jobs until I get what I want.” I put my cap on and saluted Lieutenant Shoji. He kept smoking his cigar while relaxing in his cozy chair.
I walked out of the room with frustration completely visible on my face. At that moment I just wanted to do this job as I have always done, Evacuate the town and kill those fucking demons but my hands and my will.. Both are tied to the Church and to Shoji.
I walked outside the office building to address the gathered Black Coat soldiers. They were called here but I need to tell them the details of the mission. In front of me were 100 Elite Black coat soldiers.. Some of these will be devastated seeing that we are letting the Demons slaughter through a town while I will be standing there with my hands tied.
As I walked up the announcement stage.. I left behind my feelings, I left behind my emotions and took a deep long breath, “Soldiers! We are gathered here to carry out a Demon extermination mission in Orillion. We have to crush every single demon invading Orillion. I will be leading this mission and Black Coats Infantry 16 will go down in history for this big mission. So, take pride and devote your life for the safety of Enmoto.”
“YES SIR!” The noises made by soldiers’ saluting movement filled the whole area but they had no idea of what they will have to witness today.
