Chapter 6: Take flight

Chapter 6: Take flight

So more people voted to do an extra chapter, over the past day I've come up with some ideas including the last two options.

I sadly still don't want to use to much of what i've planned for later so instead I'll be helping to build it up for next chapter, I hope you'll all enjoy what I've written or give your opinions on how to make it better.

Please note the links to images are not mine simply things I've found on Google that fit decently well.

----------------------------------------

Over the next year the town once again underwent major renovation, becoming the first modernized town every home now had both a toilet and sink present within the building.

Although it wasn’t much quite literally just a hole to sit on and a large bowl of water behind it, water magic crystals were only able to produce a small amount of water in a short time.

Unable to 'flush' away waste the idea of a toilet was quite easily overlooked, using a tank to store the water just wasn’t thought about since nobody cared.. Nobody but me…

Nowadays the town's population had skyrocketed and with it the amount of children increased as well, due to the large amount of new students Mrs. Prima stole me away from Sarah to become a teacher together with her.

At first the kids were either withdrawn or pure evil, my first day started with a boy named Nathan.

"Big sister!" Appearing next to me I barely had time to register his presence before I felt the pain coming from my head, looking down he was standing with a huge grin on his face both hands holding onto my long hair.

Looking over at Prima she gave me an encouraging smile telling me I was all on my own, leaning over I scooped the boy up.

"Why hello there, I'm not your sister but if I had a brother I could only wish bed be as adorable as you."

Forcing a smile onto my face I cheerfully spewed out flattering words, through compliments and encouragement I was finally able to win over the class by the end of the month.

Lessons were fairly easy the children quickly caught up in the math they'd been missing, the hard part came for those who still hadn't learn from their meditation.

Unable to enter their soul three of the eleven kids I was left with were extremely unhappy with me, the others of course had been the ones to listen early on Nathan in particular would be classified as a genius.

Raising to the intermediate level with only a few months of training he must be a natural talent, the other children by comparison were sadly lacking.

Without a way to teach them to enter within themselves I taught the three the art of astral projection, at first they struggled but after a week they'd grasped the concept.

Trying it out the kids once again couldn’t perform, trying not to meet my gaze I could see their eyes growing wetter.

On the verge of tears I explained why it could never work, the simple fact of the matter is the requirement of mana.

Without having trained their mana control in the slightest they were unable to create an astral body from it, next I had them try the reverse process.

Following the feeling of their mana gathering and trying to force their soul from the body they instead forced their souls deeper, with the small aid of their magic they followed the natural path to their souls.

After that I seemed to have won over the class, the next few months passed by in a blur of days.

Having long ago abandoned actually teaching them anything my days were spent playing and training, the largest task I now had was to simply take them to the washroom.

With the passing of winter school came to an end and the fresh spring winds began to blow throughout the town, after four months it's once again time to stretch my wings.

Waking up early in the morning looking over I could see Emily sleeping under the covers, so she's out of meditation huh?

Getting up I quickly pulled out one of the shirts I'd made, to make it easier to use my wings I designed both open back shirts and dresses.

Like the rest of my clothes it was made with a light blue cloth extending down my body overlapping my simple skirt, now fully dressed I grabbed my rapier and headed down stairs.

Walking into the garden my father was already there practicing with his own sword,  when he saw me I could feel the shock clearly shown on his face.

Normally for training I'd wear something a little more durable but today I'd worn my everyday clothes, "I may not always be dressed for a fight when it comes Dad."

Slightly nodding his head he returned to his practice, having long ago learnt from him how to create my own opponents I began my own training.

This time around I imagined a mage opponent, ducking under a simple fireball I rushed forwards.

Not giving me the chance to get close they switched over to a more advanced fire magic, ending their short incantation a flash of lightning released.

Unable to dodge I formed a protective layer of chi over my body, breaking through my defenses I was stunned well my magic worked to resist the damage and paralyzing effects of the magic.

Even if it was an illusion the pain wasn’t left out even slightly, before I could recover I was once again hit.

Thankfully this time it was only a fireball and my chi barrier was able to block it, recovering I once again rushed forwards.

Seeing this the mage once again began weaving his magic, this time around the level had been elevated instead of chanting he simply gathered and released the magic.

Once again I was left unable to defend as a fireball quickly sped towards my face, creating a shield of water in front of my face I was able to dampen the effects.

Since my water magic isn't very powerful the fire still broke through and blinded me, dropping myself lower to the ground I could feel another pass over my head.

Sensing the natural energy around me I was able to determine their position without the use of my eyes, rushing in the fight ended with one quick slash to the throat.

Dropping to the ground I was left breathless although the fight hadn't gone on very long I'd pushed myself to the limit of my current physical ability, without my other powers I'd have lost after being hit by the lightning.

After resting for a few minutes I once again started my sparing matches, my next opponent was a ranger finally finishing off with a warrior.

Each opponent was only one level higher than myself but I'd only been able to win with the use of another energy, even though it was impressive with how I am now I'd easily be killed by a majority of the town.

Heading back inside I left my sword just past the door resting against the wall, turning around I quickly headed back into the garden.

Next on my agenda was training with my tail, having grown alongside me it was still equal to my own height, with it I could reach out and impale a tree or lift stones.

My main use for it was like a grappling hook, reaching up into the tree I easily wrapped around a tree branch and flung myself into the air.

Extending my wings I began to glide over the last couple years I'd begun to practice this to improve wing strength, now after all this time I could control them harmoniously to allow myself to glide.

Taking off from the ground or actually flying requires a great amount of control, every time I'd make even a slight adjustment it could greatly change my flight path.

Curving one wing a little too much would result in a tumbling crash to the ground, being a warrior of the intermediate level I'm able to live through a four or five story fall.

Currently I'd never gone higher than a three story building any better would require being able to fly upwards,  drifting in a circle I gradually approached to the ground.

Closing up my wings I let myself fall to the ground, softly landing in the grass I once again spread my wings.

Shining in the early morning sun they slowly began to take shape, once fully extended they began to rhythmically move.

Raising myself into the air I was able to hover a feet off the ground, the corner of my lips gradually began to rise as an unknown feeling overcame me.

Adjusting my wings together I slowly began to drift backwards, adjusting them again I increased the speed before crashing into a tree.

Picking myself up off the ground I once again pulled myself into the air with my wings, hovering I moved forward this time.

Gaining speed I started to circle the yard careful not to crash into the gardens walls or any of the trees, gaining more confidence I raised myself higher.

Reaching the point where'd been gliding I quickly rose even higher, one I was about fifteen meters above the ground I stopped.

Looking around I decided on my new flight path, in an instant I shot forwards heading towards the city walls.

Adjusting my course I flew along following the path of the walls increasing my speed as I went,  reaching a point where I couldn't go any faster I started to look around instead.

The view was breathtaking early morning dew sparkled all over from the light of the still rising run, looking further into the distance was a heavy fog rolling across the forest devouring the trees.

No longer watching where I was going I was no longer over the city itself, although it was still in view I was easily over an hour's walk away having traveled the distance in seconds.

In a slit second I felt something crash against my left wing, no longer able to sustain my flight I crashed to the ground.

Landing heavily I laid on the ground moaning in pain, besides being a little battered I thankfully seemed to be fine.

Sitting up I felt the blood rushing through my body making me a little dizzy, waiting for it to pass I sat there.

Once I felt more comfortable I began to survey the surrounding area, surrounded by bushes and trees my line of sight was less than a meter.

Feeling out with my senses I could feel multiple animals in the area although none seem very large and dangerous, standing up I winced in pain.

Pulling up my skirt I could see my right ankle looked sprained, placing my hand over it I weaved together light and water mana well circulating chi towards the injury.

After casting a healing spell my ankle looked visibly better, once again trying to put some weight on it I was at least able to walk.

With a slight limp I slowly made my way through the forest, every time I pushed the leaves out of my way I created a large amount of noise.

Moving forwards I ignored my surroundings well walking away from the sun towards the city, taking notice of my presence the surrounding animals either fled or moved to investigate.

Seeing a young girl limping her way through the forest many of the surrounding predators began to follow me along my path, having traveled about one hundred meters one of them finally decided to attack.

"Aaaah!" Jumping back with freight the beast slowly came out from the bushes in front of me, feeling it's confidence I felt a sense of dread.

Casting out my senses I could feel the others surrounding me, the one who approached was a panther like animal well I could feel snakes and other such things surrounding me.

Even with the strength of average citizens being so high walls were still used to protect the village, knowing these animals are probably far stronger than they seem I tried my only chance at escape.

Once again spreading my wings I shot into the air in a split second I was already over a meter off the ground, moving in the same instant the beast ran and jumped into the air.

Knocking me down mid-flight I quickly tried to shake it off, smashing into the ground I was less than two meters away from the beast.

Pushing itself off the ground I was still mostly on the ground well it started confidently walking towards me, frantically I began to weave my strongest magic.

Sensing the danger the beast slowed its pace becoming more cautious, unfortunately for it that was the wrong choice to make.

Letting out my magic a tornado formed underneath it's body quickly expanding finally reaching a height of two meters, thrown into the air the panther let out a sound of annoyance.

Ignoring it I left it behind as I flew up into the air, this time around it was one of the snakes that stopped my escape.

Having seen my earlier attempt some of them prepared so as to not let me escape if they got the chance, blending in with the branches it shot out coiling itself around my small body.

Falling to the ground it fully surrounded my body multiple times, squeezing itself tighter I could feel my life slowly coming to an end.

Forcing as much energy as I could through my body the snake found it far harder to continue, striking out its teeth piercing into my shoulder I could feel the venom beginning to circulate weakening my resistance.

Trying to protect myself from constriction and fighting off the venom proved almost impossible, the best I could do was painfully force my blood to purify before entering my organs.

With this method the poison disappeared but my blood literally began to boil causing an indescribable pain, draining my mana and chi at a rapid rate I was slowly left with nothing but natural energy.

Densely filled with natural energy my body felt invigorated almost instantly my wounds healed and I felt like my body was growing younger, feeling the surrounding flow of energy I could feel the panther was now free.

Having seen the snake gain its victory almost all of the surrounding creatures had left the vicinity, charging towards the snake the panther bit into its neck nearly severing its head from its body.

No longer controlling it's coiling muscles I was now able to break free only to be met by my first enemy, pulling myself from the snakes dead body I could see my assumption was wrong.

Looking around the first thing I'd noticed was the body of the panther I'd though had saved me, with it's fur torn to shreds it was almost unrecognizable.

From the looks of the rest of the area other animals had moved to stop whatever began to slaughter them well protecting the snake, only after the other animal had all been killed was I saved.

Looking towards the panther I was left with various questions but without feeling any killing intent I felt fairly comfortable around it, having exhausted all my energy physical, mental, and other I collapsed.

Waking up an unknown amount of time later I was greeted by new surroundings and a smiling face, checking my surroundings I was in a cave from my position I could see the exit was in front of a lake.

Inside the cave was a boy crouching beside a hot bed of embers slow roasting an animal, seeing me awake he had a large grin on his face by had still yet to move.

"Glad to see you're okay, after suffering a nasty wound like that I thought you'd be a goner to the poison." Who is this boy, what happened to the panther from before?

Without waiting for a response he continued talking, "My name is Jacob, Jacob Bernard it's a pleasure to meet such a beautiful young miss."

Bernard!? As in the rulers of the town Bernard, I'd heard of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard only appearing in front of others when necessary their children were supposedly holed up training inside their manor.

Looking more closely at him he was more defined than even my father and was carrying himself as though he knew his own strength was better than others, standing with a straight back head slightly looking up so his eyes could look down.

Even though he's only twelve he's supposed to already be a seventh level advanced combatant, truthfully his grown was something I'm incredibly jealous of.

"What happened to the panther that saved me, you didn’t kill it for supper did you?" No longer directing my gaze at him I looked towards the roasting meat, seeing this he held back laughter as he explained.

"Our supper is the savage animal that attacked you, I'd never want to slow roast and eat myself after all." Hearing this my jaw dropped and I simply sat there staring at him, shape shifting? I'd never heard of something even remotely close to that!

The entire Bernard family were all shape shifters including his fiancé, the way they gain new forms in be killing and eating the beast.

Not having a form fast enough to deal with all the animals surrounding me he tore through the panthers flesh, transforming into it he easily slaughtered the snakes well I was being crushed.

Over the rest of the night we shared a meal of panther meat well we talked, finally as the sun began to set I'd recovered enough to head back to the city.

Having been staying in the cave for the last few months Jacob offered to escort me home before heading off to sleep, hearing this I turned him down spreading my wings I shot into the air and flew into town.

Gently coming to a stop in front of my house I walked inside, seeing my battered appearance Sam was shocked.

Noticing her expression I looked down only to finally notice the state of my attire, having been shredded by the tigers claws I'd gained four new tears in my shirt starting at the middle of my chest.

My skirt of the other hand was fully intact but covered in dirt and blood, seeing the blood I couldn’t help but look over to my shoulder and see blood had also seeped into the top of my shirt.

Looking underneath the wound had already almost entirely healed, giving me no chance to explain Sam took me upstairs and forcibly stripped me down.

Inspecting every inch of my body for injury Sam let out a sigh, washing my body like old times she left me to dry off well retrieving my night gown.

After sending me off to bed Sam left to inform my parents I'd finally returned, having disappeared from the garden early in the morning they'd become quite worried around supper time.

Still tired from my exhausting day I climbed into bed and fell fast asleep, waking the next morning I was greeted by the three of them sitting down at the kitchen table.

Long story short after an hour or two of lectures and explanations mom had a slight smile on her face for my achievement of flight, although it was almost fully covered over her worry for my life.

Dad on the other hand shared the same opinion as Sam that I should refrain from flying for now, by the end of it I was forbidden from flight and reminded the forest was forbidden in the first place.

From now on Sam or Magnus would always be supervising my morning training and Aura would accompany me into town should I decide to go shopping, with the money from birthdays I'd saved up quite a bit only spending it on materials.

Starting today I could feel the large freedom I'd once had begin to shrink becoming ever smaller, I was after all only a nine year old so it's understandable after what's happened…

Merame you're just flying through my chapters, I'm glad you like them thank you for reading. :)
