Chapter 19 – Bursting with Anger

Chapter 19 – Bursting with Anger

Even though Jin was significantly stronger than the time he first activated Froyo’s Avatar, his body still couldn’t take the stress from using a power much greater than his own. It took him a whole day before he could walk on his own two feet.  Another half a day before he recovered fifty percent of his strength. After recovering nearly most of his strength, Jin finally left the stone quarry that used to be home to the stone flying beasts.

It was the first time Jin wandered around the wildness in broad daylight. He stored the large stone feather containing the spirit of the Rank D spirit. It was not something that could be sold yet, unwanted questions will be raised. Although he successfully cleared his first instance, he agrees with the mighty titan that it was mostly luck. There were so many other scenarios where he could have easily died. Thinking about it sends the chills down his spine.

The first thing Jin noticed as he was walking back was that the air was much livelier. Usually when he comes hunting at night, mostly nocturnal beasts such as bat type, cat type, fox type and wolf type beasts were around. A few of the beasts tried attacking Jin but they quickly met their demise since the jungle near the city was no longer a challenge for him. Rank F beasts are only hard to deal with if their numbers are great and Rank E- beasts just take Jin a bit more time.

“Boss Shang must be furious with me.” Jin thought to himself as he navigated his way through a bunch of trees and bushes. He had never missed work before.

“Having a weapon makes a world of difference too.” Jin thought back to the broken spear he found inside the Instance. Without it, there was no way he could have won against the Rank D beast no matter how many chances he got. When it comes to confronting a beast and their natural superior body, human hands and feet just don’t cut it.

Jin also realized the exponential difference in strength between each ranks now. According to Prometheus, the stone bird-like beast in the Instance earlier was only a D- but it was strong enough to kill Jin a thousand times. Killing a hundred E+ beasts was easier than taking one D- beast on in Jin’s opinion.

Just as Jin was about halfway back to the city, a familiar rustling sound of an enraged beast heading towards him could be heard. The sound of trees getting pushed down and boulders getting crushed warned him how formidable the incoming beast was. Jin was used to such assaults when he hunted low ranked beasts at night.

“A Rank E+ beast?” Jin cried out after seeing the destructive aura it exhibited as it neared. Jin instinctively felt fear towards the beast. The current Jin right now would struggle greatly against a Rank E+ beast. It would take him a great deal of time and there is no guarantee he would win without Froyo’s powers.

However, something about this particular incoming beast was off. Its roars were loud but a hint of distress could be heard. It was almost as if it was crying.

Bam! A huge white blur slammed into the ground where Jin was at a second ago. Jin had leapt backwards to gain some distance from the beast. The beast turned out to be that of a medium-sized gorilla beast. Its size was only slightly larger than Jin himself but it had budging muscles as thick as Jin’s head. The beast was hysterically trashing everything in its path. Even though it saw Jin, it didn’t attack him.

“That’s…” Jin was speechless. The gorilla creature was holding a huge black club that was almost equally as large as itself. In its other hand it was holding a small hairless creature that looked like a human baby. However what shocked Jin the most was that there were at least five arrows embedded in the gorilla’s flesh. Each were aimed at non-vital locations as if someone wanted to maximize the pain.

“It’s far too late for him. The arrows are laced with poison.” The titan’s voice rang in his ears, answering his thought before it occurred. Jin had felt so sorry for the beast that he wanted to try saving him. He wanted to help its cub that was inside its arms. However after the titan spoke, Jin saw the dark purple blood that dripped out from the intelligent beast. It had indeed been poisoned.

The creature made eye contact with Jin and slowly its frenzied movements stopped. No sounds were made but Jin understood what it was imploring him to do. The proud beast wanted to die an honorable death. Although Jin had hunted beasts before, he never had a case where the beast itself wanted to be put out of its misery. The scene in front of him sent a tinge of pain to his heart.

The gorilla slowly approached him with shaky movements, it could not even kneel down due to an arrow protruding from his back. It dropped its gigantic black club that it was carrying and fell back against a tree. It whimpered softly as it continued to beg Jin with its dimming eyes.

Jin braced himself as layer of metal congealed around his fist. He raised his shaky arm and slammed downwards with his eyes closed. He did not hold anything back because if he failed to end the beast’s life, it would just go through more pain. The punch contained everything he had and his own soul screamed out sadly at the same time. The last thing he heard was a soft moan that sounded like thank-you from the beast before Jin ended its life. A patch of fur formed from its disappearing body as its spirit became an Avatar. Jin carefully stored it into his new storage ring.

“This is…” Jin was flabbergasted as he realized the baby of the gorilla beast laid motionless on the ground before him. A tiny graze could be seen on its chest, one of the poisonous arrows must have scraped him.

“The young one must have been too weak to form an Avatar…” Prometheus reminded him. Jin knew that while most beasts can become Avatars, weak ones such as baby beasts can’t. They needed to mature a bit to become a Rank F- creature at least. Until then, they are just regular animals. Likewise humans who don’t become Rank C can’t become Avatars either.

Just as Jin bent down to dig a grave for the deceased little one, he was interrupted.

“Commoner, did you see where my preys went?” An arrogant and boastful voice shouted from behind.

Jin turned his trembling around and saw three smug figures riding on horses approaching him. The middle figure was a teenage kid in fancy clothes and covered in jewelries. In his arm was a golden bow and on his back was a quiver filled with the same arrows from before.

Something snapped within Jin and for the first time he asked the titan Avatar to help him. The three conceited figures that enjoyed their sick ways of torturing the beasts they hunt was making Jin furious like never before.
