Chapter 37

Though Sokka asked her if she wanted to bargain, he had half a mind to her and get the Exp. When he used [Observe] on her, not even the name was shown so she had to be over Level 200 or even 300. At least that was what he predicted.

There was the temptation to have her killed and level up, but he knew that at best he would only get a dozen levels.

Also when killing such an enemy who has hunted him down, it will make him feel happy. But temporary satisfaction or decisions based on emotion weren't something Sokka planned to make.

While killing might unlock a new system option due to leveling up, it would be a stupid decision based on temporary benefits. Sokka knew that, so with clenched teeth, he had to force himself to not kill her and think of the future benefits.

'No, she must become my mule. Since I can't use Skills like [ID Create], leveling up is hard. Also, humans are not the best at leveling up since their levels are too low. Farming them sounded like a bad idea too, as it would have them band together to kill me.' – with a heavy heart, Sokka knew what had to be done.

The Evil Lady probably knew quite a lot of other spirits that he could kill and power level from.

But then again, the Gias Contract didn’t seem to be unbreakable, what if she finds a method to get reborn?

Sokka contemplated putting in a clause that stopped her from being reborn or even trying to break the contract. In the end, he only shook his head. Such a strategy might work on other people, but the Evil Lady was smart and cunning. The only thing such clauses would show her was hints on how to break the contract

She might even use the clause to kill herself and reincarnate. Dangerous people sometimes were dangerously smart too. Sokka knew he was messing around with powers beyond his knowledge, but he was willing to do so, believing in his own effort and growth. He would surpass the Evil Lady by the time she figured out how to break the contract.

The {Gias} while to others it might seem unbreakable and might bet on it to keep someone like the Evil Lady under control. Sokka already saw the contract as something breakable and it was only a matter of time before she figured out a loophole in it.

So many choices, but also having to weigh the benefits and potential risks made things more complicated. Everything had a risk to it, there was no lying to that, but what Sokka was trying to do is take on a calculated risk where even if he couldn't control the outcome, he could at least predict it.

In the end, he made the decision that should lead him to faster success. Even if things go bad, by then he should be strong enough to handle it by himself. Scribbling down some clauses that left a lot of loopholes to his benefits, and a couple that the Evil Lady could use. Sokka decided to offer her the contract and immediately, his Luck stopped attacking her and she seemed to move easier, but Gamer’s Mind was still pressuring her. “Sign this.”

She looked at the contract and without contemplating much she signed it and a drop of light, that seemed almost like divine water, flew out of her finger and was absorbed by the paper that rolled and disappeared.

There were some loopholes that she would think about later and be able to figure out, but this was better for Sokka. Because this way he could at least predict what she would do next.

[You have gained a new Title: Schemer]

[Due to scheming, intelligence increased by 1]

The new title gave him 5 intelligence and wisdom when equipped. But it was better than nothing and when in the future, he might have a mental battle, equipping it will be useful.

But for now, [Legendary Beast Slayer] was the best Title he had available and wasn’t going to change it any time soon.

The pressure around the Evil Lady disappeared and her figure dissipated from inside Sokka's mind.

She had a despairing look on her face, knowing that she had been beaten in a battle of minds. The contract essentially made her Sokka's slave, he didn't take it easy on her, she did try to kill him after all.

In reality, not even a second had passed, though it seemed to Sokka and the Evil Lady, hours had gone by.

Katara was in mid-motion to pierce the Evil Lady’s head with an ice spike. For the first time in her life, a cold and emotionless look had taken over her features. She was ready to kill to protect her brother. This was a murder that she would commit without an ounce of hesitation because doing so in such a situation might cost Sokka's life.

'Please be on time!' - Katara begged in her mind, hoping that she hadn't been too slow and Sokka wasn't dead because of her slowness.

Just as the ice spike was about to pierce the Evil Lady's head, the spirit’s hair lengthened and moved like it had a mind of its own, grabbing the ice spike as if it was nothing and crushing it.

Katara immediately, and unconsciously gathered the water in the air, attempting to strike down her brother's attacker.

But she stopped, noticing that unlike the amused look from before, the unknown woman had a despair-filled gaze. “This can’t be happening, I, Eris, the Spirit of Strife, the Evil Lady have become someone’s slave.”

She couldn’t believe it, even though it was in front of her eyes.

Sokka had an emotionless glare in his eyes as he gazed at the woman in front of him.

But there was one person who hadn’t caught what was going on here. “Hahahaha!!! I am Zhao, destined to be the Moonslayer! Destiny itself can’t-”

"Shut up!!" The Evil Lady hollered out stressfully, as tears came out of her eyes.

Zhao immediately stopped talking as his head slid off his neck in a clean cut.

The Evil Lady’s hair had blood dripping from them. Before anyone could even notice, she was the one who had killed the man by extending her hair and cutting his neck.

Even Sokka was surprised as he too hadn't sensed anything, not even the shifting of air, and by the time he knew anything, Zhao was dead. – 'I was lucky that she never saw me as someone she wanted to kill. Instead, she just played around, which led to her loss.'

The Spirit of Strife had a hollow look in her eyes as she kept staring at her hands. “No, no, no… how could this happen?”

Sokka chuckled, drawing her attention, making her look at him. He just casually walked towards her and patted her head.

It wasn’t in a loving manner like he usually did with Katara, instead he petted the Evil Lady as if she was his dog and the smug smirk on his face said it all. “Good doggy~ now you should follow my orders and go back to the Spirit World, stop any spirit from trying to look into me. If you can, keep them alive and notify me so I can get the last hit on them. Okay?”

She didn’t answer and just looked down in despair, it seemed like she had not adapted to the reality of the situation yet.

Sokka helped her with that as his petting turned into a rough tug as he grabbed her hair and made her look him in the eye. “Listen here bitch, you just tried to kill me. So don’t test me, I am not going to be merciful, next time you don’t listen to my orders, I will do unimaginable tortures upon your body. You might be a slave, but it's better than being dead.”

She nodded absentmindedly as slowly some life seemed to come into her eyes and a swirl of darkness appeared in space and she jumped through it.

Sokka was relieved, he didn’t want to be unnecessarily cruel to a strong being who could break the contract eventually. Still, he knew that not doing anything would make him a pushover, where it would have her test his limits and how far she would be able to push. Eventually the Spirit of Strife, or as she called herself, Eris, would calm down and think things through in a rational manner.

He had outsmarted her this time due to the unexpected existence of [Gamer’s Mind], that skill was something otherworldly that the Evil Lady would have never been able to predict its existence.

Sokka knew that the Evil Lady wasn't someone who would be so docile for long, so he didn’t want to test things against her, and he also knew that if it came to schemes he was at a big disadvantage against her.

*creak*

Suddenly the temple door opened and Aang came out, he was in his normal form and he had a thoughtful look on his face as he stared at Sokka.

This immediately made Sokka cautious and became on guard against Aang.

‘What did Roku say? Did he say something about me?!’ - wondered Sokka, he was a little tense right now and his mind was still in a fight or flight response. His pupils dilated to an unnatural degree as he observed his Aang, who was also his best friend in this world.

Still, he tried to get rid of his tenseness and walked towards Aang. “What did Roku say? Did he call you for some reason?”

Aang was about to answer when he caught sight of Zhao’s decapitated body and his eyes widened in shock. Katara also had the same reaction as she kept staring into the Admiral’s decapitated head as he had his mouth and eyes open, seeming like he wanted to say something.

Seeing this Sokka forgot about his questions for Aang, seeing that he wouldn’t answer them currently. Instead, as an older brother, he went and hugged Katara, comforting her. “Don’t worry sister. Everything will be alright, he was a bad man killed by an evil woman."

Though he said that, Sokka knew it would only be a temporary distraction before she started asking questions. After all, how was Sokka able to take control of such an enemy? And many other questions would follow after that.

'Will our familiar bond hold through this?' - wondered Sokka, because he knew that in the end, he wouldn't tell his sister about the Gamer Interface.

"I am not worried for him… I am worried about you. What if you had died there? I couldn't do anything," muttered Katara, as his tears stained his shirt.

Sokka smiled and patted her head gently. "Don't worry, sister, I will never die."

'Seems like I misunderstood her feelings. Do not worry little sis. Things have just become very interesting.'
