In a room that is covered in shadows and is only being illuminated by a single desk lamp that provides just enough light for the woman sitting in a leather office chair reading a peculiar-looking book. The rest of the room not covered by the relatively small amount of light given off by the lamp is covered by shadows and darkness making it hard to see anything clearly except for the outlines of the furniture in the room. Which included a wooden desk that had a modern computer, a leather couch, and matching leather chair, a wooden table that is in between the two, and several filing cabinets that lined up against the wall to the right of the desk, looking from behind the desk can be seen with finer details being hidden by the darkness. But that low amount of light was enough for the women who had stayed late after work to look at a new book that was found in a recent operation.
The book was dated to be at least several hundred years to as late as a thousand years old. But that wasn’t what made it so strange. Instead, it was the language, which is an alien language that is largely unknown and most likely have been impossible to read or understand at all if it were not for the English notes that are scribbled on the sides of the pages and in between the lines. Ironically though the translation notes made reading it even harder since the pages were filled with words from two very distinct writing systems that sharply contrast each other. Making the pledge incredibly busy with text from the top of the parchment to the bottom. Though alongside the notes another book was on the desk which held a partly translated version of it. The woman that was looking through the untranslated version is wearing a long sleeve business suit top and pants, as the woman reading the book finds business pants to be more practical in her line of work.
The woman who was reading the strange text is Samantha Briggins who is a well-respected genius and has numerous degrees from Harvard including a Ph.D. in Phycology and is a senior member of an organization called the Agency of Supernatural and occult affairs. A part of the United States Intelligence community. Whose varied duties include investigating strange texts and artifacts like the one that Samantha is currently reading and to stop any organizations or cults from attempting to research and use it for their own often twisted goals. But the Agency as it is commonly called by the staff and the few that know of its existence also have plans to research the objects, texts, or even creatures that they might find and research them to get a better understanding of them for a variety of reasons. Some are noble, like trying to better protect humanity and prevent information about the supernatural world from leaking to the public. To others that are less noble such as continuing the research that they had stopped other organizations from doing in the hopes of advancing the regular advancement of science.
But Samantha didn’t mind or care about the more questionable activities of the Agency since working for it meant being able to study the truly unknown, Since it was a world that was hidden from the masses, and studying it meant being able to constantly able to discover new things as well as learning regularly of how little she might know about the world. But no matter how little she discovers in the grand scheme of things it is still a passion of hers and something that brings a great amount of excitement to her life that might otherwise be an average and boring life to her. Though it would be hard to realize how much she enjoys her job if you just look at her due to her perpetually expressionless and emotionless face. Which are just one part of her rather emotionless and very logical personality and her naturally monotone voice. She tries to alleviate this when she talks by trying to add emotion to her speech but even when she tries to consciously talk with some emotions the monotone aspect never completely disappears. Instead, the emotions that she tries and adds make her emotionless personality more obvious. As they tend to feel forced or fake. These aspects of her personality make her able to handle even the most gruesome scenes easier or be able to see the most unnatural of beings or read the most disturbing and unnatural texts. That would cause the average person to lose their mind and be forced into a mental institution for mental health from Ptsd. (Though researchers are still struggling to understand how reading can be such a mentally scarring activity.) As they wouldn’t be able to handle them and be mentally scarred or go mad but Samantha can handle them all without an issue. This has led to her being favored by the top brass as she can do any assignment, no matter how terrifying or disturbing.

Which has led the staff that knows of her to believe that she doesn’t have enough understanding of her emotions to get truly mad or react to them with any genuine emotions. This may be true to some extent but in reality, is that she is instead excited at discovering things no matter how inhuman or disturbing and along with her views her experiences as an agent of the Agency as well as her past as a FBI agent have led her to gain a tolerance to gruesome scenes has also allowed her to be unaffected by the shocking and disturbing scenes she sometimes comes across. This personality of hers had become one of the biggest unofficial mysteries of the Agency since her talking about her past. No one could tell what could have led to her cold and emotionless personality. Since she had a happy childhood and was greatly successful that she did and she was able to go to one of the best Universities in the nation entirely on an Academic scholarship.
Meanwhile, what she was doing at the office late one night was reading one of the latest finds that the Agency had made which had caught Samantha's eye because it had a fully translated version along with an untranslated version that included. Which was something rare to find, often only an untranslated version was found that at most had some notes on it or had a translated version that was hard to prove authenticity. But finding both the untranslated and translated copies at the same time meant that the translated version was more likely than not to be at least somewhat accurate. So once Samantha finished looking at the untranslated version of the book she set it down on the desk and picked up the translated version of the desk. She then started to read, but as she did a strange feeling started to come across her and she started to lose consciousness.
