Chapter 16: Ambush

Chapter 16: Ambush

As the Rageberg family's carriage rolled along the forest road, there were several presences that were eyeing it from the forest. A troop of guards was positioned around the carriage with the leader having mid-emperor realm cultivation. The supporting force of the carriage was too weak.

The presences moved along with the carriage through the trees without making much of a sound. One would think that as Michael had not made many waves in the past three years, people would have forgotten about him. But, the masters of these presences clearly differed. As the carriage stepped in through the night, with a sudden shrill sound, several volleys of arrows were sent towards it. These arrows were clearly aiming for the carriage. Each arrow seemed to carry great momentum and pierce through everything in its path. But surprisingly, the carriage walls held as the arrows only managed to embed themselves a few inches in! These arrows were fired from reinforced bows with emperor realm experts. They were fully capable of piercing through ten inches thick concrete and hit their target! For such arrows to be stopped meant that the carriage was made of reinforced wood.

As the leader of the attackers noticed this, he gave a signal to his fellow members. They rushed out to attack. There were a total of 20 people of which 6 were in the emperor realm. This was almost the same strength as the guarding caravan. It was just that the attackers were much more powerful in the same realm. Someone shouted:

> Its the Barbarians!

As the barbarians rushed to engage the guards, they all tried to open the gate to the carriage. The guards bravely jumped in front of them. Even if they were weaker, they could delay for some time. No one noticed that one of the guards left the group and started moving stealthily in the direction of the hidden barbarian leader.

Michael had always been a coward in his previous life. While he would bully the weak, he was very cautious in treating the strong. If there was any good quality he obtained from his past life, it was his cautious and scheming nature.

While no one knew about his progress, people believed that he was in the knight realm. A saint was sufficient to kill him. Even a late stage emperor could have done the job. As most people had not seen Michael's fight in the forest, his combat ability was believed to be in the mid to late stage of the king realm. Thus, the current party should have been sufficient to kill him without much of a problem. Also, sending perfect realm experts after someone was harder than heavens. The number of things that interested those experts could be counted on a single hand.

Thus, it was within reason to send a saint.

Michael had been observing with his All Seeing Eyes all the way. He had noticed the group of Ambushers much earlier. Thus, he had asked a guard to stay in the carriage and used the disguising technique to take his place.

During the battle, he ran towards the hidden saint. As he reached near the expert, he started revolving his soul energy in accordance with the illusion art making himself invisible! Even his presence was vanishing! He was going to kill a saint today!

As the barbarian leader was looking at the battle, he was keeping an eye out for any possible hidden experts that may have been following the carriage in secret. It was then that he felt a presence extremely close to him.

> What a talented assasin!

He thought to himself as he threw a full power punch towards the presence. His vital energy was like a raging dragon! The sonic boom from his blow resounded in the forest like a bomb going off. The tree in the direction of the punch was all rattled as splinters of wood flew off from their trunks! All this was caused by a single punch.

But while the punch was flashy, he had not managed to hit his target. But he did manage to blow away the soul energy keeping Michael's disguise. As the leader saw Michael's figure, he was blanked for a moment. He had never thought that the target would approach him. Was this kid brain-dead? He could have escaped but he came to greet death.

Then, he noticed Michael's attack. His punch was aiming for his heart. The leader smiled. This kid underestimated saints too much! He did not even bother defending. He was going to torture this idiot before.

As Michael's punch landed on his body, a bang resounded in the forest. Though the sound was drowned before it could reach the ears of anyone else. The leader felt a terrifying soul energy travel through his body. He had never felt a crisis like this! Before he could take any action, the energy bombarded his soul.

Boooomm!

It felt to him as if he was hit with heavenly thunder! His mind blanked with extreme pain. His internal organs ruptured from soul shock.

Even as his vision was fading, he saw the kid standing there looking at him with indifferent eyes.

> This kid is simply a monster! The ones aiming for him are going to pay! Haha, too bad I wont live to see the spectacle.

With these final thoughts, his mind went black.

Michael looked at the Barbarian at his feet. This could have been a dangerous fight if he were to retaliate. If he would have used full power attack, even a graze would have given Michael serious injuries. As a saint's agility was also great, Michael would not have been able to dodge even with prediction. The only reason he avoided the first attack was due to illusion. The attack had gone from a hand above him. Michael brought out a dagger and pierced the heart of the barbarian.

Killing saints needed to give a fatal blow at either the head or the heart. Due to igniting their life force, they could regenerate from even cut limbs! Only heart and brain were the weakness in a saint's body except for the soul. At the immortal realm, as long as one was not thoroughly destroyed with all parts of the body separated and burnt, one could still live! Thus, killing immortal realm experts was the hardest thing to do.

After taking care of this, Michael ran towards the carriage. As soon as he reached the road, he unleashed a barrage of lethal soul attacks at all experts present there. As soul swords of terrifying power swept the attacking barbarians, almost all kings died on the spot. Their bodies ruptured from the shock and scattered on the road. The emperors managed to live but they too were severely injured. Of the 6, 4 were in the early emperor realm. They fainted instantly as blood started flowing from their orifices. The remaining two were in the the mid and late stage each. As they were suppressed, they were killed in a few moves by the guards.

All the guards already had Michael's orders. As long as he did not make a move, they had to do their best to preserve their lives.

After the battle, the bodies were swept off the road by the guards. In the world of Aterna, the corpses of experts were precious resources. They were used as manure to grow medicines and spirit food. In this energy-poor plane, only respected ancestors had their corpses burnt. All of the guards were shocked when they saw the corpse of saint realm expert. Their eyes began to glow as they understood a bit more of their young master.

During the journey of two months, the caravan was attacked 3 times. The other two times, it was by emperor realm experts. As such, the group returned to Redster with a great haul.

Even as Michael stepped down from the carriage, he could feel terrifying fluctuations from the castle - the fluctuations of perfect realm experts, and that too three of them!
