The world of the Atomsplit, also known as the third world, is divided between 5 major kingdoms.
The strongest kingdom, Ouranos, achieved dominance after the death of Varah, the 42nd Atomsplit.
The citizens of Ouranos are extremely unique, with over half of them being able to use atomic energy.
April 13th, 1967.
D. Merchant highschool is a rural highschool towards the south of Ouranos, where kids come to study from multiple towns over.
Ray walkers, enrolled at 15, is in his final year, somehow nearing the finish line with a huge disinterest in actually attending.
Each and everyday that he comes to school, he's always completely unprepared. Finding school a waste of time, he only shows up for the off-chance that something interesting might happen.
He's often prideful at how delusional he may appear to others, which causes people to completely avoid him.
But in reality, he does wish he had just a few more people to speak to.
Not to say that he's completely alone.
Josh Fords, a grade A student who has just walked into class to find Ray with his head down on his desk, snoring.
Josh backhands Ray straight at the back of the neck to kickstart the repetitive morning.
"Dude, what the fuck?"
Ray shouts, before looking around, seeing everybody facing them.
He lowers his head back down before turning to Josh once more.
"Not cool dude."
Josh clicks his tongue.
"You ready for the festival tomorrow?"
Ray stares at Josh, his eyes wandering off to the window.
"Oh yeah... you decided to get involved in that."
Josh strikes a grin.
"Yeah, and im gonna win that thing!" He exclaims.
Ray chuckles, turning away from Josh.
"Kids are coming to compete from all over the country dude, you already know who's coming to observe this year."
Josh scoffs, turning to look at Ray.
"You just dont know what im capable of, buddy! I'm gonna get a real nice government position making military weapons." He tells Ray, a hint of pride and perhaps some arrogance emanating from him.
Ray continues staring off ignorantly, seemingly engrossed in something else, a feminine figure seemingly staring at them through the window, standing atop a rooftop, it's probably nothing, just somebody seeking solitude and staring off into space.
"Yeah, sure, whatever. Just remember me when you get big and famous."
"Ha! Maybe i will, or maybe i'll just forget about you."
Ray turns his head to look at Josh.
"So what'd you even make anyway?"
"You'll just have to wait and see, it's gonna be the greatest thing ever."
The bill rings, signaling the end of yet another day.
Ray sits up and stares down at Josh, still scribbling on his notebook.
"You oughta have something else to do by now, no way you're not already done with your project."
Josh doesn't bother to look up from his notes.
"I'd rather not regret my imperfections later."
"You're a smart guy." Ray says, turning around to walk off.

"I'll be watching ya tomorrow, so dont dissapoint."
And with that, he walks off, leaving Josh alone.
Josh tends to be burried inside his books and research all the time, specifically on atomic energy, and its utilization. He's already managed to create some weapons with the help of his brother, but since both of them aren't atomic energists, getting their hands on energy banks can be expensive.
He's garnered a reputation as a failed, wanna-be scientist, since he never gets to properly test his devices before presenting them for the first time.
Kids snicker and giggle as he passes by them, but he silences the voices by dragging himself forward.
Ray had no reputation up until meeting Josh, which caused him to get even more isolated from other people, since nobody knew why he'd wanna be around a failure. But in the end, it was easy to assume that a failure would hang around another failure, somebody who would be a hypocryte to call him out.
The night goes by, and another day comes.
April 14th, 1967
The start of the new day signals one thing, the day of the festival is here, and it's just about time for the competition to begin.
Ray arrives late, as he usually does. Forcing his way through the crowd to make it to the front of the stage, making sure to get a good view of the contestants.
Looking around on stage, he spots 5 contestants, and on the right is Josh, meaning he's going last.
The crowd looks tense, and people are mumbling and whispering to eachother.
Somebody steps to the front of the crowd, it's Ray's and Josh's history teacher, who will be acting as the announcer for the competition, Mr. Blayke, an old man, close to retirement age.
Mr. Blayke taps on the mic twice.
"Good morning everybody! Thank you all for being present during our annual technological innovation competition... where students from all around come to show off their talent." He says slowly, pausing for a second. "This year will be different... because we have a special guest attending, raising the stakes for our contestants." He looks backstage, before nodding and looking back at the crowd.
"Everybody... please give a warm welcome to Nyx dualista! Our glorious and tenacious ruler!" He announces, the crowd erupting into cheers and murmurs.
The lights point backstage, and the crowd goes quiet.
A young man slowly emerges, his hair long and black, two swords on each side of his waist.
But as everybody cheers him on, Ray takes a closer look. Taking in Nyx's features. Unlike everybody else in the crowd, he takes notice of the lack of depth in his eyes, the way he walks aimlessly to the front of the stage.
Nyx slowly grabs hold of the mic, Mr. Blayke getting pushed aside.
The way Nyx speaks is monotonous, slow and disgusting.
"It's a... privillege to be here with such... bright, young minds. I hope that today... i get to really see what our future generation has to offer." He exclaims, letting go of the mic and stepping aside to let Mr. Blayke continue.
Ray notices that on Nyx's shoulder, there's something resembling a tattoo, it looks like it says #11.
Ray pretends to listen to the first four competitors, but doesn't pay any attention to them, he does however wish Josh wasn't last to present his creation, so he could leave faster.
In the meantime, Ray looks around, the place does seem to be surrounded by guards in plain clothing, but it's not hard to spot the guns.
Finally, the announcer cuts his boredom.
"Thank you everybody who has stayed with us so far, we are up to our last contestant, Josh Ford!" Mr. Blayke announces.
The crowd stays quiet, apart from a couple snickers and mean comments about Josh.
Josh steps up to the front of the stage, a small box in his hand. Looking behind Josh, Ray can see Nyx standing there idly.
"Good morning to all of you, for this presentation, i require three contestants from the crowd to act as test subjects!" Josh exclaims, looking nervous.
Ray raises his hand, he's the only one who does. He thinks to himself that everybody else must be afraid Josh's device will blow them up.
The fact that nobody else volunteered is clearly making Josh even more nervous and embarassed.
Then suddently, a hand grabs onto Josh's shoulder. Looking behind him, it's Nyx.
"Will i work fine?" He asks ominously, slowly.
"Y-yes! You'll work fine your Honor!" Josh says, lowkey terrified.
Ray gets patted down by some bypassers as he walks on top of the stage, probably those disguised guards.
He walks up next to Nyx, and nonchalantly stands there, seemingly not intimidated by Nyx's presence.
Josh unlocks the box with shaky hands, presenting a small, gun-looking device, and raising it up for everyone to see.
"This device... is not about the gun itself, but rather the technology inside it. If intergrated into official military devices, it could give a significant boost." Josh explains, using any confidence he has left not to stutter.
He points the gun at the sky and fires, but only a small wave of light shoots out.
"This device carries no intent to kill by itself, but rather gather intelligence." He says slowly.
"It's like a traditional atomic energy calculator, but rather than being big and bulky, it's compact and can be carried around, specifically designed to be used in a battle field." He pauses for a second, aiming the gun at Nyx.
"It isn't as accurate, but in a battlefield, having a number that's close to the truth is much better than having nothing at all." He reasons.
Josh takes a deep breath, and slowly pulls the trigger
A small, thin wave of light hits his forehead, and a screen on the small gun lights up.
"A/E: >4M" Is what the screen shows, and Josh hands the gun over to Nyx.
"Very accurate... my atomic energy... is close to that..." Nyx says slowly and approvingly, but his face betrays that sentiment.
Josh speaks up again.
"I-if you'd like to test it out at our next volunteer... he's not an atomic energist, so nothing should pop up, as intended..." He says nervously.
Nyx points the gun at Ray, who doesn't seem phased by it. He fires the gun once more, and the light beam hits him in the forehead. To Josh's suprise, the screen does light up.
"A/E: >12M", Josh looks confused.
"I-it can't be broken... not now..." He whispers, not expecting his invention to have malfuctioned at such an important time. Nyx then points the gun at Josh and fires. The screen doesn't light up.
Josh looks even more confused. "It's not broken...?" He mutters.
The crowd is now quiet, and Nyx turns his attention back to Ray.
Slowly grasping the gold sword on the left side of his waist, he points it at Ray. Slowly and monotonously, he speaks.
"How many years has it been... since i got a chance like this..."
