Chapter 2- The Earth Stood Still

Chapter 2- The Earth Stood Still

There was a boisterous party all around Kye, the sounds of revelry echoed throughout the large banquit hall of the Marken mansion. Kye was being led around the party by Ashton with one of his hands on his back as they greeted distant family members and representatives from corporations close to the God's Wisdom conglomerate. Kye was greeting all the people with his Dad before they moved onto the next guest. This continued on until it was finally time for the ceremony so that his blessing and skills would be revealed to those gathered to celebrate. Ashton led Kye over to an altar where a robed man stood in blue and white vestiments. He was a diviner from the Oracles, a group of people who serve as mediums for the gods to reveal the blessings of people and catalogue all those with a blessing. They were like the administration of all those blessed and this information was made available to all Clans so that gods could make informed descisions when choosing members. The Oracle gave a small smile to Kye and Ashton.

"Are you ready Young Master?"

Kye gave a small nod and the Oracle started the ceremony.

"O holy divines, we are gathered here on the eve of Kye Marken's tenth year in this mortal world. He was fortunate enough to have been blessed at birth and now that he has come of age, I ask you, o holy powers, reveal to me and to us the blessings that you ordained for this youth!"

The Oracle placed his hand atop Kye's head and his eyes started glowing as the information raced through his brain. Placing his other hand on a crystal that sat atop the altar, a large screen was displayed to the entire banquet hall.

[Name: Kye Marken]

[Blessing: Atlas's Prodigy]

[Skills: Atlas's Voice- Atlas was a king, but even before that, he was a Titan. Your very voice carries your will with the power of your conviction. Use your voice to make the world yield to you.

Atlas's Body- Atlas has held the heavens aloft for centuries. His body has never once faltered even under the immeserable pressure of the heavens, and your body will not succum to it either.

Atlas's Power- Atlas does not need a weapon, the very forces of the world are his weapon. While his grandmother Gaia held power over nature and his uncle Cronos held power over time, Atlas came to bare power over gravity. Using Atlas's legacy, gravity bends to your will.

Regeneration- Your body's constitution allows all wounds and effects on your body to clear rapidly. This ability can be cultivated to be more effective with training. (Inherited from Alicia Marken)

Enhanced Strength- Your muscles and bones are far more dense than the average human. Your strength is enchanced and your control over your muscles is impeccable. This ability can be cultivated by training your body. (Inherited from Ashton Marken)]

[Mana Type: Dark and Gravity]

The entire banquet hall was silent upon seeing Kye's abilities. Noticing that no one was saying anything, Kye spoke up.

"Who is Atlas?"

As soon as those words left his mouth, then entire hall erupted into questions about the blessing that was just revealed. No one had ever heard about Atlas even from their own gods so they knew he wasn't one that had descended. The hall continued to get louder until one man in the crowed yelled out with a booming voice.

"SILENCE YOU FOOLS!"

Silence decended upon the hall. The man who had spoken up was one of Ashton's very close friends and a CEO of another company in the conglomerate. His name was Marcus Kinlow, one of Zeus's favoured disciples. He had a neatly trimmed white beard and a firm face that yielded authority. He had brown eyes that stood out against his almost pale skin and white hair. His large frame demanded all the attention in the room. He swept his gaze over the people gathered together before nodding once.

"As a top disciple of Zeus, I can tell you who Atlas is and why this is extrodinary. Atlas was the son of one of the titans who were born from primordial entities. These beings, called Titans, were cruel and capricious gods who ruled the heavens with an iron fist. Atlas himself was not a cruel man and ruled his small kingdom with benevolence but when Zeus struck down his father, Atlas picked up the torch of rebellion against the olympians. He lost his war and was punished to hold up Mount Olympus for the rest of eternity. This remained his punishment until the gods descended upon this world, where Atlas was freed from his punishment. No one knows where he is now."

The hall was filled with the sound of muttering as people spoke in hushed voices to one another. Marcus spoke up again.

"The reason this is extrodinary is that while major gods hold providence over forces of nature, the Titans hold providence over powers more primordial forces. Young Kye here is the first person to have ever been blessed by a Titan, he could easily eclipse everyone in this room in terms of power with proper training."

This decleration got everyone in the hall excited and they started applauding. Kye was slightly flustered but knew that it wasn't that simple. He knew from his lessons that mana was something you would feel flow through your body when your blessings got revealed, but Kye couldn't feel any mana in his body besides his natural affinity for dark. There was no trace of this so called gravity mana at all. Ashton noticed that his son wasn't feeling great about the whole situation so he decided to speak up.

"While we would love for you all to stay here longer, I must ask you excuse us so that we as a family can start making some decisions about Kye's future. Thank you all for coming tonight and i'm sorry we had to cut it short."

Most people gave an agreeable response before packing up their things and making their way to the door. The servants of the house assisted in getting the guests to leave, with the only ones remaining in the hall being Kye, Alicia, Ashton and Marcus. Ashton knelt down and looked his son in the eye.

"What's wrong buddy?"

"I can't feel the gravity mana in my body Dad, i don't think i can use those powers."

The adults all put on grim expressions before Ashton turned to Marcus.

"Tell me you know someone who can help."

He looked down for a bit before finally meeting Ashton's eyes.

"Hephaestus created chains than held one of Atlas's brothers to a rock. She would have had to do extensive research into the primordial forces the Titans could use if she wanted to bind one. I think she is your best bet."

"Then we'll strike a deal with her clan. Even if she doesn't accept Kye into her clan, i'm sure she'll help him get control over his powers."

The three adults all nodded in affirmation of the plan. For Kye, it was the beginning of his life and it had started with far too many unknowns. It was as if the very Earth stood still.
