The End

The End

That’s all, folks!

Thank you for coming on this journey with me. For me, writing Athanor was a great project to focus on, to help me through a long winter in lockdown, but I doubt I would have finished it if no one was reading. At over 140K words, this is the longest thing I’ve written by far.

If you’ve enjoyed the story, this would be good time to add your rating and review, if you haven’t already done so.

I don’t have any immediate plan to continue the story. Sometime in the next year, I may get round to revising it and publishing it on Amazon as a novel, but it will stay on Royal Road in its current form.

Right now, I’m looking forward to a break and working on other things, but I may well come back to Athanor in the future. There’s still plenty of world to explore.

If you’ve got an opinion on which, if any, characters, you’d like to see more of — or anything else — you’re welcome to let me know in the comments.

And if you have a burning need to know more about any other aspect of the world, do ask — I’d be happy to write up my semi-coherent rambling world-building notes into slightly more coherent rambling notes, to appear here as bonus material.

——THE END——

Every year the ice grinds south, nearer and nearer the settled coastlands. Crops fail, bringing famine, plague, and war. Kingdoms fall to wilderness.

Defended by the buried heat of the earth, Athanor burns: a beacon and a shelter through the long night. As always, its light attracts rogues and warriors, sorcerers and poets -- all those who yearn for hot, brief lives of glory.

The ice closes in.

The city stands. For many, there is nowhere else to go.

Update: 15/7/2021:

Athanor, the complete novel, is now available to pre-order from Amazon. Should be out mid-September.

I'm currently editing. No big changes expected, just tweaks, fixing typos, tightening the nuts and bolts and polishing the brackets.

The story will remain on Royal Road in its current form.

Update: 8/9/2021

I've just about finished editing. No major changes to the story, but lots of minor tweaks.

I doubt anyone here is interested, but I now have Advance Review Copies (ARC) available. If you'd like a free, early copy to read in exchange for a review on Amazon, message me for details.

Publication date is 20th September. After that I plan to have a holiday and start thinking about what I'm writing next (which will be an Athanor follow on, unless something better occurs to me).
