Tamaki turned his head towards the prez—again.
“Prez… what do we do?”
She stayed surprisingly calm under the situation, but didn’t say a word.
"Sis?”
“Two trees on the left,” she pointed at me and Tamaki, “Bushes on the right,” she pointed at herself, “and you,” Soichiro, “throw this ball back—as hard as you can, then jump back over the fence.”
I seemed to be the only one who understood her commands. We were standing on the golf terrain of the country club. When a golf ball came flying our way, we all understood that there was someone present past closing time.
But right now, no one seems to get what the prez is trying to say.
“Soichiro, just throw the ball!” I loudly whispered.
He picked it up and threw it harder than I expected he could. It flew right back to where it came from.
“Huh?! Hello? Is som–eone there?” the golfer’s voice cracked, “Hello?”
The prez pointed at the bushes again. I nodded my head and pulled Tamaki along.
“What? Are we just gonna hide here?” he asked before I pulled him to the ground.
“Just listen to the prez, she’ll tell us what to do.”
He leaned in closer to my ear and whispered, “Don’t you think he’ll call security or something?”
I’ve been suppressing this feeling for a while now, but my mischievous side can’t tolerate this situation any longer. It’s time to combine my unique strategies with my mischievous malice.
“Tamaki… I’ve got a great idea.”
“Hello…?” the golfer’s voice was getting closer, it was now or never.
“Dooon’t come any clooooser…” I tried to make my voice as spooky as possible—to sound like a ghost.
“Wha– Who’s there? Show yourself!”
His footsteps were getting closer, he was hurrying over the hill.
“Don’t coooome any… closer!!” Tamaki made his voice so deep and loud at his last word that even I got chills.
After shrieking loudly, he ran off the hill. The prez walked back over from the tree and Soichiro jumped over the fence again.
“Nice, you two,” Soichiro said with his thumbs up.
“I’ve got a plan, prez! We have to scare him to the point that he thinks there are actual ghosts here—until he believes this country club is haunted!”
Soichiro seemed puzzled, he scratched the side of his face, “Sounds fun, but what’s that good for?”
“To prevent him from calling security—well at the very least it will make the security think he’s gone crazy,” Tamaki said.
I continued, “It’s past opening hours anyway, so it won’t be likely anyone will show up to take a look at the ghosts the golfer is seeing,” I devilishly chuckled in my fist.
“Woah, I hadn’t thought of that, great idea!”
Soichiro was fired up, but that was to be expected. Even the prez looked impressed at our strategy. Hers was a lot safer; a quick retreat. However, that would mean we would be giving up our one of the few comfortable nights of sleep—and I’ll prevent that from happening, no matter what!
We all stood up and walked around the hill. The club house became visible and there was only a single light turned on, in the largest room. The entire side of that room, visible from the golf terrain, was a sliding window door. Since it was already dark out, we could clearly see what was going on inside. He was kneeled down in front of some sort of box.
“Guys… what if he’s taking a weapon…” the always brave Soichiro’s knees were shaking.
“In a country club?” Tamaki on the other hand was calm.
“Don’t worry, we’ll just have to be extra spooky.”
“Heh, I like the sound of that, prez!”
The four of us got a little closer. From this distance everything inside the room got a little bit clearer. We saw him kicking away the box, he probably couldn’t find what he was looking for.
All of a sudden he turned back to the sliding door and yelled out, “You better leave my terrain, ’cause I’m coming for you!”
He walked out of the room and quickly returned with a baseball bat in his hand.
“Close range combat,” Soichiro rolled up his sleeves, “I’m so ready for this!”
“No fighting. We’re gonna scare him, that’s all,” I made clear.
He rolled his sleeves back down and sighed.
“I think it’s about time we split up,” Tamaki said, “If we make sounds from multiple places, he won’t know where to go.”
Clever. But coming from him; annoying. There was hardly any way to argue his strategy so we all went with it.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
We were all strategically placed close to the fence, but far away enough from one another. He could never spot two people at once. If he managed to see one of us, we could still make it out over the fence as a last resort.
“OoOOooOOoo~” the prez the furthest away from the golfer made some spooky sounds, but when she does it, it’s way more cute than it is scary.
“Hey! Show yourself!” the golfer was carrying his bat over the ground. Every now and again he hit the ground with it after shouting some words.
“Go… awaaay!!” Soichiro yelled out. He’s the furthest away from the prez.
“How many of you are there? I’ll get all of you! Show yourselves!”
It was now either my turn or Tamaki’s, but he was nowhere to be seen. I squinted my eyes, but no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t see him. Completely lost out of my sight, a brilliant disguise or the wimp already fled the scene.
Well, I guess it’s my turn then…
“Leave… before we’ll take your—life!!” I tried to mimic Tamaki’s earlier scream, the deeper voice at the end really puts a frightening power behind the final word.
“Wh-where are you? Please leave me alone!”
He went from scared to violent to scared again. It was kind of exciting, I never expected to have fun like this during such a serious trip.
“We are the ghosts of the country club! Leave our club—immediately!!” Soichiro also picked up on the delivery, nice!
It was about time Tamaki did something of use, but he still was nowhere to be seen. I decided to go again. At the exact same moment the prez had the same idea.
“Leave—immediately!”
Our voices coming from different directions, at the same time, created the perfect scary effect we needed.
“I-I… Stop messing with me!”
I was so fixated on Tamaki’s abandoned spot and the golfer, that I didn’t pay attention to the big room at all. Only now I saw Tamaki sliding open the door and sneaking inside.
“Ghosts don’t exist!”
I wasn’t sure if Tamaki and I were on the same wavelength, but if we wanted to really scare the crap out of this man, it was now or never.
“Then explain… this! Turn around…”
He followed my command and turned around, facing his clubhouse. Tamaki had slipped behind the curtain, and conveniently, the light switch was there.
Tamaki was switching it on and off.
“Do you see that? This club is—ours!!”
The golfer dropped his baseball bat and started sprinting right at the spot I was hiding. I turned my body around, facing the fence and hoping he wouldn’t see me in the dark.
Luckily, he sprinted right past me and jumped onto the fence. With a bit of struggle he managed to get over it. I stood up and looked at him go.
“Heh, even I, of all people, feel a little bad.”
“Yeah, we went a little too far there,” the prez said while dusting off her clothes.
“Well, this is what it takes to be a part of the Team Tamaki Trip.”
“Huh? Who decided on that name? Don’t you call him chief anyway?”
“Right, Chief’s Helpers Illegal Excursion Force. Chief for short.”
“Let’s keep it at Team Tamaki Trip then… It sounds totally lame,” I quietly added.
Tamaki returned from the house, “You all seem at ease, I assume he’s gone now?”
“Yup, sure is, good job,” Soichiro clapped him a little hard on the shoulder.
“Well, most of this was Moeru’s idea, hit her on the shoulder instead,” he complained as he rubbed the spot that Soichiro hit.
“No thanks.”
We walked over the terrain, making sure there was no one else. Well, hardly anyone could’ve not heard the loud sounds both we and the golfer were making.
“We could use the main building,” prez said, “But I wouldn’t want to take that risk. Is everyone okay with sleeping in the shed?”
The shed was on the opposite side from the fence where we entered the terrain earlier.
“Yeah, the shed will do,” I said, the other two nodded in agreement.
And that’s how our eventful evening came to a close. All’s well that ends well, right? At least for us, the golfer probably needed new pants after that.
“I’m still surprised we managed to scare an adult like that,” I said my thoughts out loud.
“Yeah, true. I guess we’re a scary force together!” Soichiro agreed.
We found some old curtains in the shed and used that as blankets. It’s rather cold for this time of the year, but the warmth of this group will heat anyone right up.
