"Mija, breakfast is ready!!!, tell your sister, Santiago, look, she's not listening to me, Come on, come on, otherwise you'll get cold too."

"Ok boss, Remedyyyyyyy! Mom says your food is going to get cold."

"I'm coming right now!"

"Also go for the tortillas!"

"You go, Santiago, you're being cheeky."

Looking in the mirror, noticing how pale my skin looked, accompanied by a strange sensation inside me, a feeling of unease primarily.

"Hmm, no, I would say something more supernatural, but..." - "They're calling me."

I glanced at my smartphone, it couldn't be that I missed the bus to the excursion, I put my hands to my head and screamed, I had been waiting for that trip for the last six months, and I was even working.

I took a long breath.

Since I had nothing else to do all day, I sent a message to confirm my attendance at the event. It will be near the historic center. As soon as I sent the message, I got a reply.

"I'm glad you're coming, but today wasn't your excursion, Remedyyy? Did you oversleep? Hahaha, if you did", accompanied by a laughing sticker.

My eye started twitching, and I wondered, am I that predictable?

She immediately replied, "You are very mistaken. The main issue was... "

I thought about how to explain myself, otherwise, I would look like a fool, and that would embarrass me greatly. I remembered how pale my face was.

That's it. Well, "I felt a little sick to go on the excursion, but with a little medicine, I'll be perfect to attend the event."

He only replied, "You'd better be fine. See you at one in the afternoon."

I went down to the dining room. The food had cooled a bit, but it was still acceptable to my taste.

"Good Heavens, Remeidy, you look very pale." Immediately, she came over to see me.

"I'll take you to the Monterrey pharmacy. They have a good doctor, and they charge cheaply. They only prescribe what's necessary. Let's go after you finish eating."

"After the consultation, I'll go to work. There's an event today, and they'll pay me well. I'll use that to buy the medicines."

"Don't overexert yourself."

"With the money I save, we can start a business. Dad wouldn't have to..."

"Oh, darling," she held me close against her chest.

We left the doctor's office around 11. It seems I have some kind of poisoning.

The city has terrible radiation quality indexes today.

The doctor associated it as a probable cause. Anyway, I'm feeling better now. I sat near the meeting point waiting for the agreed-upon time. A strong explosion of sensations overwhelmed my five senses.

Time seems to pass more slowly from my point of view. Is this accelerated thinking? I tried to raise my hand but couldn't move. It only lasted a few seconds. Everything continued as usual.

It was already the agreed-upon time, but I waited another 10 minutes. No one arrived on time.

During that time, I bought a soda. I noticed something peculiar. If I concentrate enough, I can enhance a specific capacity of my five senses.

As I had nothing in particular, I looked carefully at the passersby.

The enhancement only lasted between 1 to 3 seconds with all my concentration. In the end, I had mental fatigue and cerebral exhaustion.

I regretted doing it. In my exhaustion, I didn't notice Carlos's arrival. It took me by surprise to see him sitting next to me.

He didn't say anything, just looked towards the sky. I looked in that direction too. "A shoo...ting star!" I exclaimed aloud, to my surprise. I stood up.

"Carlos, let's go see it from a better place, at the building where we'll be performing, it will look better from the rooftop.

"We ran nonstop until we reached the elevator. While waiting, my heartbeats remained the same.

"But why, this feeling is so strange to me, am I changing? No, it's not that, I refuse to accept it."

I ran until I reached the edge and raised my hand, wanting to touch the stars. A great explosion of sensations ran through my body.

"The view from here is beautiful despite the pollution," Carlos emphasized.

"Indeed it is. I just had a great idea," I said, winking at him and then smiling with my whole body. "Let's take a selfie." I took my phone out of my bag.

We both leaned in. When it was time to take the photo, I lightly pushed him with my hand. Honestly, I didn't expect it, but he went flying. I looked at my hand.

"You don't seem to be sick! Have you been going to the gym?"

"Not really, squeeze and release my hand gently, uh, this sensation." - "Mmmhn look I'm a mamadisma," making a pose with my hand.

"Haha, you have a long way to go to reach my level. After all, I'll be the one making the audience laugh. You definitely lack a sense of humor. How could you do that?" We both laughed at the same time.

I extended my hand. "It's time for the event."

We went down to the hall. "Hey, look," I said. "They're reporting about the comet on the news. It seems it will be visible in the coming months."

"Good evening, here in zone 12, reporting from the streets of the historic center, with Valeria Sanchez."

"Despite the pollution in Mexico City, the comet can still be seen. It's recommended to go to less populated areas. NASA and other institutions of this kind have presented a report to the United Nations that possible fragments could reach Earth over the next 6 months, during which it will be visible."

"Guys and girls, pay attention, we're about to start, go get ready," announced the event organizer.

Sighing, I thought about what it would be like to be rich. Just by entering this grand building, you could see the excess of luxury.

If I found one of those stones, I bet I could make a good profit. I could sell it to a collector or auction it online. My eyes widened at the thought of money.

"I wanted money!" I reproached myself out loud.

"We all want money," Emuit said, patting me on the back.

"Now go get ready."

On my way to the dressing rooms, for some strange reason, I saw a lost guest hiding behind some tables, crouched down.

Judging by their appearance, they're not from here. I grabbed them by the left shoulder, but something else caught my attention.

From the little I could hear of the conversation, I deduced it was about money laundering and drugs. I know that person. I focused all my attention on the sight, and in that instant, I felt it in my throat.

He is the president of the republic. My eyes burned, and everything went blurry. The person below me soon noticed my presence. It's a girl, um, she's American. Without thinking, I punched her, and that was enough to knock her out for a while.

The targets noticed the noise, just thinking about what they would do to me if they found me as an infagrant made my blood run cold.

I grabbed her by the waist, but she was very heavy. Glancing around the hallway, I decided to throw her behind some tables, hiding the body among the sheets quickly.

I crouched down next to a pipe to simulate an accident, rubbing my ankle. One of them peeked around the edge of the wall, and I looked up. With a bit of nervousness, I asked him.

"Excuse me, are you lost? You shouldn't be here; it's a place only for authorized personnel," I said as I got up.

He looked me in the eyes, and his companion came over to see what had happened. I pretended to be surprised when I saw the president smiling at me.

They seemed concerned, or maybe it was just my imagination. "Are you alright, young lady?" the president asked.

"Yes, I just slipped on a pipe I didn't see on the floor. As for my ankle, it's fine; it doesn't hurt. If you'll excuse me, you're lost; this place is for staff only."

We looked at each other. I directed them to the site of tonight's event. There was still time before it started, so I could still go and get ready.

Despite that, the encounter left me feeling uneasy. To be sure, I focused my concentration on my ears, but I couldn't hear anything, not a thing, not even my own footsteps.

This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.

"It's not working as I expected. I think it's because of the fatigue from earlier. My head still hurts a bit." Apparently, I'm the last one to put on the costume for this event.

Nevertheless, I'm worried about what I heard without knowing who that girl was and who the president's companion was. It's all very suspicious, perhaps.

I reflected a bit on what happened, which led me to fear for my life and the people close to me. It wouldn't be very strange for me to end up involved.

I immediately went to see the girl lying behind the tables. I had a plan in mind, especially with great benefits in my favor. I checked her from head to toe and found a small camera disguised as a button.

Very ingenious. I captured everything that happened, as well as all the information, and for more security, I extracted the memory from her phone as well as the camera.

Thinking a bit further, I wrote a cell phone number for her. The note said, "Call me." A tempting idea passed through my tired brain, especially risky.

I was stepping on the tail of all the corruption in the whole country with a specific purpose. "My actions are justified. It doesn't matter if I have to use violence as a means to an end.

I can't bear the treatment towards my father. I'll make this a better place, of course, for my benefit. Yes, that's what I'll do!" I smiled bitterly.

"I need to think this through better another time; after all, it's absurd to carry it out."

Meanwhile, at the event, I watched the target's actions carefully. Shortly after, the girl appeared, and we locked eyes.

She didn't seem to care about what had happened between us; she started chatting with various guests, including the ones I had observed. If I remember correctly, it could be related to those rumors about an organization called ###, or whatever its name was. I remember seeing it on a forum.

I kept thinking about that until my mind went blank. "I'm tired!" I exclaimed, sitting at one of the tables away from the stage. I took a few pills with some wine. It's not ideal, but damn it, there's not even a single bottle of water here, only alcohol.

That girl is still talking to those close to the president. "perhaps the blow didn't hurt her", my hand still hurts, shaking my feet and looking at the ceiling.

A sound snapped me out of reality. I smiled happily, "I got paid!" Yawning loudly, I looked towards the main area, "They seem to be having fun.

I wonder how they're doing over there." I became moody with my misfortune.

My whole body exuded a tense aura. "I've felt this pain this afternoon."

A pain shook my mood barely perceptible.

A barely perceptible pain shook my spirit. My right eye experienced an acidic burning. I bent towards my knees, holding the affected part, in an act of reflex. I ran to the bathroom.

Without explanation I began to experience sadness and anger. I am not this type of sentimental person. I have always been characterized by a personality... A sharp pain startled my pupil, an intense red liquid replaced the crystalline drops on my affected right side.

I looked in the mirror, "who is she", for a moment I forgot who I really am.

It definitely scared me.

"Did she drug my drink?" I hurriedly grabbed my phone and called Mom. I also messaged Carlos. Carlos came to my aid immediately.

All my senses seemed to get a boost. I received a huge amount of information, overloading the natural limit of my organs, and in an instant, it all ended. Blood gushed from my eyes, ears, and nose. My muscles tore apart. Before collapsing, I hid the memory by throwing it into the pipe.

"Carlos, I need to call 911."

Amidst gurgles, I managed to say, "Please go, go, Carlos, something's happening to me."

I woke up in a puddle; the trail of pain turned into vitality. Carlos lay sprawled on the toilet. Carlos...! I was in shock immediately; the blow didn't stun me, nor did it produce pain. "the pain, where did it go?"

"Now I understand, your first victim. It can be tough, take it easy."

She lit another cigarette, the intense smell of tobacco masking the odor of urine and blood coming from where Carlos lay. I tried to cry, but my tears didn't come. I touched my cheeks, my eyes, I lack tears. I killed you. "No, it was you, you damned bitch."

"You're quite the comedian, look at yourself."

"I did it. My clothes are torn, my hair is falling out, I'm missing nails."

"Check your teeth."

"My teeth?" Tooth fragments are embedded in Carlos's organs, scattered throughout his battered body. It's a nightmare, no, no, no, no. What have I done?

"Don't even think about it." From between his breasts, I saw a revolver emerge, fulfilling his threats. I did consider blaming her for all of this.

"So what can I do? My life is ruined. I think it was already ruined from the moment I was born."

A strong spasm hit, pulling me towards the corpse. "what's happening to me?"

"It's a side effect, cannibalism. Enjoy the feast; I'll wait for you outside with clothes."

"You say it as if it's nothing. I wouldn't do such a thing. I'm human, a good person."

"Every cloud has a silver lining."

She's so callous, but, but, I want to hold back. My stomach burned more. Carlos, tell me, what has happened. [Time skip]

I ate everything, I'm a monster, a nightmare. It can't be true.

She helped me remove my clothes, and got me a casual outfit from the dressing room. The reflection in the mirror showed me what I am now.

"I'm lost. Completely and ridiculously."

"You're sick, get used to it."

"Don't blame me if I kill you."

I gave a small smile. Her attitude annoyed me, and hatred emerged. "Well..."

You died and came back to life; it's the main symptom. We believe it came from space."

"You're saying it's a space disease."

"Let me finish. You're special; a handful of infected manage to surpass the threshold. However, at least you died before the start of the Third World War. She winked. I'm Luz Monroe, from the ###. I investigate beings from the stars." Kicking her in the groin. "Now we are even."

I fell to the ground, clutching myself down there. "Damn it." The building shook four times, and smoke started seeping through the cracks in the bathroom door.

"A fire! We need to get out of here."

The girls coughed from the smoke. "What's going on?"

"There's no time for explanations. Follow me if you want to live." Monroe pushed open the window. A cold wind swept in, swirling with the smoke.

Both looked outside. "You're going to jump from the 50th floor. It's certain death."

Monroe had already jumped out the window into the void.

All I saw were the bright neon signs of the city. "You disappeared."

The helicopters arrived quickly. They turned on their powerful spotlights, sweeping the sides of the building.

I heard the sound of heavy knocks. "Open up! Mexico City Police!"

"Open fire!" A deafening roar shook the bathroom. It didn't sound human.

I covered my ears. More shots, more roars. Piercing screams. Everything fell silent.

The door handle turned. I crouched low, hiding in one of the stalls.

A police officer entered. His face was covered in sweat, his eyes wide open. I cracked the door open slightly, and something enormous entered. It pounced on the officer.

I heard disgusting crunches as it tore him apart with its claws. The camera on the officer's uniform captured everything. I sat on the toilet, processing the events. My heart was racing. "I never got to tell you I love you."

I remembered all the adventures I had with Carlos. Naively, I waited for him to take the lead. But I sensed his hesitation.

The bathroom door swung open. It turned its pincers toward me. It was about to attack me.

Another thing entered through the door. It was a girl wearing a strange metallic glove. With one blow, she pulverized the monster.

"My quantum glove is one of the many weapons that countless civilizations created to stop us. Fire by nature is our weakness. Including mine.

If someone wanted to kill me with a simple explosion, they could. An inefficient method against us.

Eradicating all life underlying the outbreak is the best way. I was ready to eliminate the girl. But something stopped me.

My sensory organs detected abnormal cellular and chemical patterns in her body. "You're no longer human."

Her cells were mutating, transforming into something more sinister and unknown.

I relieved her by sending a minimal amount of psychic signals to her neurotransmitters.

The traces of blood beside where she was hiding indicated that she had been responsible.

"You changed your teeth."

Eaten down to the bones. I touched one of the remains, accessing its cellular memory.

Images and emotions flowed into one of my retinas.

I saw a primitive version of love and felt the first sparks of attraction, interest, and affection. A love that never materialized. "Fear and disappointment at rejection."

"Primitive cockroaches. They don't even know how to reproduce efficiently."

I brought the glove to my head. "So much melodrama."

The "love" of humans was nothing more than an evolutionary residue from their animal origins.

A biochemical distraction for a superior mind like mine.

I touched the girl; one of my fingers transformed into a biological radar. There were no signs of greed or malice in her dopamine levels. Something had forced her to commit such a heinous act.

The most logical thing to do was to eliminate her like all the other humans I had encountered.

That was standard directive N. 21 to prevent any possible threat of propagation. I learned it from an insectoid civilization in my years of work.

"On the other hand, you represent a unique opportunity."

Her cells were mutating in ways I had seen before. I accessed my mental library.

Insectoid-type civilizations and machine-type ones. They had always been a headache. A metaphysical book appeared in front of the girl.

The book flipped through its pages without stopping. "Your unique exposure to 'love' and other human emotions have saved your skin, cousin." She smiled.

"We can try the Emotional Catharsis Process to stimulate your immune system."

She looked at me without understanding. Of course, she had no way of knowing that concept.

The attempt of 1099 to appear human frightened Remeidy. She shot out like a rocket.

"It's difficult to relate among family. I suppose. Or is it just me." I wore the attire of the corpses I encountered. If I liked something, I picked it up and put it on.

I left the filthy bathroom. The fire consumed the place.

So much wasted food. Humans don't even have the slightest sense of managing resources efficiently. At this rate, they will go extinct.

I opened a black hole, absorbing vital resources. I sampled some dishes, but they still didn't convince me. Nearby was a stone. That did catch my attention. "Bon appétit."

Crushing my little appetizer, I examined the new civilization's attempts at technology more closely. "Ah, this brings back memories." I grabbed a square box. "I've seen this so many times. I call it Convergent Technology." They call it asdgavd or 7asbamk, here a television. Even my civilization created one in the early days.

I inserted strands of my hair. Turning it on. "Zona 12 News."

On the screen, someone from the United Nations was speaking about asteroids.

Zona 12 displayed the map of the meteorite impacts. In the index title: "Mineral z99."

"Recent reports agree that the new mineral has the potential to replace existing energy sources."

Reports from New Delhi...

Reports from...

...

The distribution map shows red dots marking the impact zones. In the United States, there are only about 10 points, near Washington.

Near the coasts of Mexico, an abnormal number of red dots appeared in the recent hour.

The reporter made his comment, "It's strange; they changed their trajectory in the last hour. Could they be the beings from conspiracy theories? We are witnessing the first contact. What are their intentions? We'll be back after the commercial break."

A title appeared in the middle of the commercials: "Suspected terrorist Remeidy N. If you have seen her, report it to the authorities."

I was deeply disturbed by the attempt to appear human. I didn't care if I burned alive. Something inside me warned me that no matter how much she imitated human speech and appearance, I had to escape.

I stumbled down the stairs of the main entrance, surrounded by officers and journalists.

On the huge screens nearby, my photo was being broadcast, accusing me of attempting to assassinate the President of Mexico.

Even the screens of the floating buses passing through nearby avenues displayed my face.

It couldn't be true... I hadn't done anything wrong, had I?

I searched for an escape route. But there was nowhere to go. I fell to my knees, shaken by the bewildering situation.

A sea of officers surrounded me. "Don't move, miss! You're under arrest!"

From the tumult of officers, a detective made his way. He crouched beside me and grabbed my hair.

"Anything you say can and will be used against you." He leaned in closer. Whispering in my ear. "When I answer my phone, it will be your chance to escape."

He pulled out some energy shackles, imprisoning my wrists behind my back. "Someone bring an umbrella."

"Right away, commander," responded a rookie, bringing a small headpiece. A drop fell near the accused, evaporating.

“Just now it had to start raining.”

"I had heard it would rain for at least three days. Rookie."

She was handing the umbrella to Remedy and pressed a button, generating a square and semi-transparent force field just above her head.

Journalists and officers crowded around the accused. All kinds of questions rained down on me.

I couldn't even look at the camera. I feared that my mother would see me in a deplorable state. Now her daughter is a criminal, just like my father. He would be proud of me. My mother wouldn't be.

She was climbing into the back of the police vehicle followed by the detective and the rookie.

“This radioactive crap has completely ruined my hairstyle! Do you have any idea what it took me to achieve these soft waves with the salon's gamma-ray treatment?"

"Now is not the time. Let's go!"

I listened to them argue as we moved away from street level to ascend and travel through the city's airways. My mind was in chaos. I leaned against the window.

I focused all my attention, looking for a way to escape. I felt the presence of other human and non-human entities in the city. One of those presences caught my signal and its attention turned to me.
