The stories always told of the great geniuses of the bluest dawns sect. Talents that where destined to become some of the strongest aspect warriors of their generation. It's what Zig had always dreamed of being but when his core was tested he was crushed to find that his capacity was below average. Fortunately for Zig this was just the beginning of his journey.
Zig looked around the hall where everyone was gathered so that the elders could select what pavilion the new apprentices would enter. Just a few days ago Zig would have been extatic but thinking back to his poor results in his core testing his stomach churned.
"Apprentice Ju step forward " called a rough voice from the elders table. The boy next to Zig stepped forward and stood in front of the elders. The head elder at the table looked at a piece of paper and read " appreciate Ju of the tang family, 12 years old with a size 4 core.". A few noises of approval came from the others gathered at the judges table and Zig watched Ju tang swell with pride. Zig new that the tang family was wealthy and powerful in the sect so even with an average core he would have pavilions fighting for him.
Just like Zig thought multiple pavilions offered membership and Ju tang picked the thunder pavilion which would have been Zigs choice if offered. From what Zig knew the thunder pavilion specialized in speed, lightning element control and stunning techniques. Zig couldn't remember how many times he had dreamed of being on of the great thunder champions the represents the great pavilion.
He was brought out of his memories by the elder" Appreciate Zig step forward". With a shake of his head Zig stepped forward without hesitation presenting himself to the elders. "Apprentice Zig of the row family, 12 years old with a size 1.5 core ". Unlike the approval that Ju tang got Zigs information only got scoffed at. "Would any of the pavilions like to offer Apprentice Zig a spot among their pavilion" the head elder said in a formal tone in an attempt to hide his ridicule. Zig looked from elder to elder pleadingly but none of them showed any signs of speaking up until Zigs eyes landed on one elder sitting at the edge of the table. The man didn't look much like the fit but refined elders at the table he was rough with scared arms rippling muscles and a long white beard. "The stone pavilion will take the runt " rumbled out of the dangerous old man.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
For some strange reason Zig hadn't noticed the man until they locked eyes, it was almost like me wasn't allowed to notice him until the old man wanted him to. "Are you sure old grake?" The head elder said looking at the old man seriously "I am " he said simple and strongly with a nod towards Zig. Zig was thankful but nervous because the stone pavilion was one of the smallest pavilions without the honor or history of the others. He honestly didn't know anything about the pavilions fighting style or core techniques from memory.
The old man motioned to the bench where the stone pavilions apprentices where supposed to wait. Zig sat down and looked at the other benchs and noticed that his was the only one that had a single person on it. The thunder pavilion had three apprentices including Ju tang which was impressive since they never took anyone with a core smaller than size 3.5. The shadow pavilion and wood pavilion had twelve apprentices each. The burning pavilion had eight just beating the frozen pavilion and starlight pavilion that had six and five respectively.
After a few minutes all the elders finished the paper work finalizing the monthly pavilion selection and took their apprentices out of the room leaving Zig alone with his new pavilion elder. "Well boy let's see if you got what it takes to last ".
