Teresa, that had gone down a hidden cellar, from right behind the blackboard, now held a considerably big, black metallic box. She wasn't that high herself, about 1,6 meters (5'2) and the container was half her height.
Mr. Dominus made a gesture for her to place it above the glass desk, for everyone to see. As mysterious as it might have seemed, the cadets knew they had to hold their curiosity back and wait for the mad professor's speech.
None dared to utter a word, silence befell the room. Until a loud bang resonated through the class, violent clashes followed as the black box started moving on its own. Whatever was inside, didn't seem as ecstatic and curious as the poor students around it.
"Oh oh! We've gotten a perky one. My, poor canary, I would set you free, if only you wouldn't try to slaughter everyone the instant I do.
But fret not, have faith in the script and we'll manage a spectacular show for everyone to see!"
Seeing everyone at a loss for words, Dominus Karl knew the current state of the show wasn't anything exciting, he had to take it to the next level.
Finally, a new exciting idea struck his head. He would be going off track with his original script, but it would be totally worth it. He could feel it.
"Yes, well, very so. We shall begin our lesson now, I know I've bored you enough already.
'Why isn't anything happening? Where are the monsters, the blood, the devastation?'
I would too, give myself a big thumbs down right? Don't worry, just a few words and we'll be starting our grand spectacle!"
Old Karl's hands were now up in the air, waiting for the deserved applause. That, however, never came. So he thought to himself, that this had to be an audience truly hard to please.
A challenge! Yes, he was very fond of such occasions, to challenge the odds by himself and win the heart of the coldest and impassible of characters.
"Ceres, what a splendid city this is, even more, in the section under the council's order, not a single scoundrel, criminal or beggar walks the street.
With your vigilant little eyes, you must have also noticed that very few patrols of guards are also present. Then, even you little canaries might have come to the conclusion that things shouldn't work like that.
Yes! you are right, only good, benevolent people and creatures alike can live here. Our great Consul would smite them to death the moment they see any kind of malevolent intent!"
How could it be, it didn't make sense. Nestor himself had experienced wicked intent on his own skin, and could only come to the conclusion that the old teacher had to be pulling a prank on them.
However, not everyone was of the same line of thought, as for most of the trainees, Ceres truly was a magical city of wonders and wealth. All they say till now, alas only a few days, corresponded to what Mr.Domino just said.
"No! Please have mercy! I didn't mean to steal a pair of boots from Levante's boutique, but that old fox is nothing different from a thief!"
"Our lord, spare us! I didn't mean to eat Chris' steak while faulting the Imp surveilling us!"

A series of pitiful laments resounded in the room, as more and more started to plead for mercy.
Sensing Mr.Domino's amusement, Nestor couldn't but roll his eyes. If one had to look at it from a detached point of view, it would be hard to believe such an absurdity. But for these young souls, it wasn't that unbelievable. The more they thought about it, the more it started to resemble the truth.
"You fools! I've been mocking you this whole time, the Consul I know wouldn't move a finger even if you slaughtered millions of citizens.
That was a lie, this whole city is one too. An elegant facade, to mask what truly hides beneath. This will be the focus of our lessons, to let you see the untold, what others don't dare to show, I will unravel it for you.
Of course, I will also impart to you some notions regarding the biology of souls. But, for today we will be having some fun, I promised you after all.
Earning the audience's trust and interest is a must, for a dedicated artist like myself."
Mr.Domino's bony finger then pointed straight to the first row of seats, wiggling up and down, inviting Nestor on stage.
'Damn it, Lenard you'll have to give me an explanation after all this end'
Knowing there wasn't much else to do, but adequate himself to the crazy teacher's instructions, Nestor got up from his seat and neared the sealed black box on the desk.
"You too, my splendid canary, a prize must be earned with blood and sweat, otherwise it wouldn't be one, but a gift."
Teresa slightly grunted in frustration and approached Nestor's side, waiting for her father to proceed. At this point, it wasn't hard for them to guess what the professor was about to do.
"Listen well my students, this, this is a creature from the abyss. A dweller of the dark madness that rages deep down the circles of Ceres.
Although this one is still young, the wicked, dark ink of the abyss still runs through its body. They'll be now demonstrating to you how dangerous such a creature can be.
Its name is very simple, we call their species 'dark eye', simply because of its body shape."
Suddenly the lid of the box went wide open, and a black figure jotted out of it at incredible speed. Thanks to Nestor's premonition, however, he managed not to lose sight of the creature.
It was a two meters tall (6'5) giant eyeball, constantly dripping with black goo, it had no eyebrows and had a purple sclera and a bright red iris. From its spheric-shaped back came out a large pair of black, flesh wings.
The abyssal creature watched with hate every living being present in the room as if it despised life itself. It glanced at Nestor and Teresa with spite, however the sole sight of Dominus Karl made him fume pure hatred, so much it charged straight at the man only to stop a second later.
"Abomination, do you seek revenge for your kind? Defeat my disciples first, then come and claim your prize from me."
Hearing the old man's voice agitated the eye even more, apparently incapable of communication it could only express its feeling through its thick dark eyelid. Still, it was absurd that such a horrendous creature was able to convey their emotions by any means, in the first place.
"They are among the smartest abyssal creatures we know of, so think of it as an exception. Normally they would simply assault us with the intention of complete annihilation.
Also as her father said, this was a young specimen, they can group up to a diameter of 20 meters (65 feet). At that point, even a Lord would have trouble fighting it alone.
Their large wings and incredible sight make them excellent scouts. Yet dark eyes under 5 meters (16 feet), aren't as dangerous though, still, in their juvenile form they have yet to learn to properly manipulate the forbidden elements."
Teresa's chatting woke Nestor up from his long stare into the creature's back and wide fleshly wings. A small black pool of liquid had formed just below the giant eyeball, its wings were also moving far too less to sustain its huge body mid-air.
The abyssal spawn gave Nestor an alien sense of existence, a creature like that should have never come to exist, he thought.
"Hopefully your information isn't as accurate as it was last time, or we'd be doomed to a painful experience. "
Hearing Nestor's snarky comment, Teresa couldn't but scoff in annoyance. It reminded her of the reason she lied to him about the key medallion Nestor possessed, she didn't like him.
Nestor had somehow lit her father's insanity once more, since the day he met him behind the portal he had changed. Dominus Karl had always been the crazy kind, however, now he was coming back to his old antics. Just like when she was little, and her father used to wear colorful bow ties.
