[5] Ray - Upgrades

I talk to the mage for a while. Turns out his name is Keqak, the court mage and king Braiher's aide.

I know their names are weird but considering that our native languages are quite different from each other, it would make sense that names would sound rather distinct.

"Ray, I am aware that you have been in this world for only a trivial half-day, but I strongly advocate for you to be educated in the inner workings of this world, as it appears to not even closely resemble your previous world."

"Well then, Keqak, what should I know?" I inquire, deeply wishing to know more about this world.”

"Well," Keqak says, "This planet, also known as Travia, has a levelling system, similar to one of your 'video games'."

After Keqak says that I immediately get the urge to probe him for more information. How would he know what a video game is?

Unable to contain my excitement, I blurt out my question.

"Keqak, are you also a reincarnation?"

"Ho ho ho. Heavens no. I was born and raised here. However, you are not the first visitor from another world. Many other kingdoms have summoned their own heroes from 'Earth' to fight against the demon threat. Out of the five major kingdoms, you were the fourth hero to be summoned."

Keqak takes a deep breath, before continuing his explanation.

"Although no major war has broken out yet; albeit minor outbreaks in towns bordering demon territory, Most kingdoms fear the demonic threat and predict a massive war in a few dire months, so they have summoned their own heroes. I can arrange for you to meet with them later on if you wish."

What? So there are more people from Earth here? This is excellent! We can all band together to fight off evil!

"Keqak, if I may ask, when could you schedule an appointment with the other heroes?"

"Soon, Ray. However, you must be patient. You still have much to learn about this world."

That makes sense. From what Keqak said, I am the second last hero to be summoned. I must understand my powers and how they work first before I can proceed.

"I will tell you what I know, but for more information, you may visit the royal library," the mage offers generously, "First, I believe that when you were summoned, you automatically gained the [Hero] title. The [Hero] title allows you to double your progress, and also comes with special, S Ranked gear. You will also get a unique 'reincarnation' skill, as well as a heavenly skill that most suites you. The skills do not come with the [Hero] title. They are separate."

I stare blanky at Keqak in disbelief.

“All of that just for me?" I ask, thinking what he just stated was too good to be true.

"Affirmative. You may check your status with this pendant. It has a special ability that allows the user to use the [Inspect] skill"

“Thank you so much. Your generosity is unbound to words. Allow me to express my upmost gratitude.”

“No problem, Ray. You are the kingdom’s hero. You are essentially royalty.”

Keqak’s words leave me in disbelief, once again.

I truly doubt I am that special.

“Now, [Inspect] can work on yourself and any items you own. You may also [Inspect] on other people, but only if they will it. Results obtained from [Inspect] can also be broadcasted to your party. Information based skills are very rare, and the number of items imbued with a maxed out [Inspect] skill can be counted on the palm of your hand. I hope you keep this royal treasure safe.”

I can no longer stop my mouth from dropping. I had already given my utmost thanks, yet Keqak throws another major bombshell at me.

How can he be willing to invest so much into me, a random person who was sucked into Travia?

I decided to ask Keqak later, and focus on seeing my stats.

True to his word, I get a sudden flow of information, and I try to read all of it at once.

Using the item, I further [Inspect] my two skills.

<[Second Wind]: (Active) Once per day, Ray Tanaka can recover all his health mana and stamina

[Worthiness]: (Active) By sacrificing half of your maximum mana and stamina, all stats get a 250% boost for the next 10 minutes>

My eyes glitter in admiration. These skills seem immensely powerful, and I can foresee a powerful combo with [Second Wind] and [Worthiness].

I assume that [Second Wind] is my personal skill while [Worthiness] is my Miracle Human skill.

Firstly, [Second Wind] is directed at me. My name is explicitly in the skill name, from which I can infer that it is a skill only I have.

And I presume [Worthiness] is derived from one of the seven heavenly virtues, humility.

After all, that suits me, doesn't it?

I have accepted my weakness and learned to live with it.

I glance at Keqak and see that he is there sitting patiently while sipping a cup of tea. Its gold tint and marble coating make it resemble an antique tea set.

He notices my glance, places his cup of tea down and gets ready to leave the room.

"Young Ray, it seems you have a lot to discover. I shall leave you to your own devices and allow you to discover yourself. If you wish to meet me, I will be in the royal study."

"See you later and thank you so much for helping me."

"No need to thank me. It is my duty as court mage to assist you in finding yourself and understanding this world."

With thanks, he leaves, the door quietly snicking behind him.

I see a note on the table. It has a list of commands and what to do. I try the first one.

Armour: 2,000 Durability: 7,000 Resistance: 2,000

W-wow. It seems there is no end to my astonishment. Every corner I turn, I get more and more.

According to the note, if I tap on the icon corresponding to the item, it automatically equips.

I tap all five items and fully deck out before checking my stats.

Mana: 3,000

Damage: 3,000

Defence: 4,000

Speed: 4,000>

I don’t know about the norm in this world, but I feel like these stats are far above average.

Next, I go the royal library to learn more about this world.

Sitting in the children’s section, I awkwardly glanced at my sides through my peripheral vision before quickly swiping some picture books. I admit it – I am new to this world, and do not know much.

For people who were born here, my knowledge is probably pre-school content. In fact, these picture books contain a lot of information.

Apparently, everyone has two classes. A secondary and primary class. The secondary class and primary class can be switched around, with the primary class having a stronger effect and the secondary class having a weaker effect.

As I have no primary class, I tried switching Hero to my primary class. However, nothing changed.

I suppose it is because the Hero class does not give any stat buffs, meaning that it would be wise to allocate stat-buffing classes in primary, with the secondary class being some sort of passive.

In my case, all the effects of Hero are passive, meaning that there won’t be a difference no matter which slot I put it in.

Classes are also permanent, meaning that I must choose wisely before I select one.

Furthermore, you can level up by killing monsters. With every level up, you get 20 skill points and 5 combat points, as well as a +1 to every stat.

For me, I get 40 skill points and 10 combat points.

Skill points can be used to purchase skills. The price of skills varies depending on the rarity of the skill, and your affinity with it.

For example, a swordsman could buy a sword related skill for a cheap price, but a magic skill of the same rarity would cost more.

Combat points can be used to increase the base power of any stat. Self-explanatory. I skim through the beautiful and majestic artworks and close up the book, before opening and reading the next one.
