Opening my eyes 'when did I close them?' I couldn't see much. I could make out a blue glow in the corner of my eye But things were fuzzy, almost static .
Many questions were floating around.
'Where am I?'
'What happened'
Memories of that situation popped into mind.
"Fuck" my voice slightly horse.
'what time is it?' Finding my bag to my side, I Pulled out my phone.
[1323] 'how the fuck is it so dark then?' I thought confused, still groggy.
'Unless..' sitting up I looked around.
Cavern walls, stalactites, humidity levels you could drown in, some kind of bioluminescent creatures.
'I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.' My mind joked, Sill a little disoriented.
'Wait creatures' sitting up abruptly with a wince.
I observed little dragonfly fish hybrid things flew about.
'What in the world?' Sitting criss crossed, I studied the creatures.
There were 5 flying around, munching on cavern plants and some kind of bug.
'Omnivorous then, could they be dangerous?' Carefully drawing one of my knives as a precaution, and stealing myself to defend myself if needed.
But it seems they weren't the threat in this strange place.
A sound of quiet suction cups can be heard as I pretend not to notice. It’s a risk but standing feels like a no go right now.
'The creatures in here glow, maybe whatever it is won't recognize me as food.' I think hopefully as I see what looks like a black light shining down on me from above.
I take a deep breath as the light stops above me.
A glowing purple creature jumps down from the roof only to be met with the blade on instinct. The sickening sound of the hilt cracking bone was surprisingly audible.
Right in between the ribs.
The beast kept going from the momentum of my strike and collided with a stalagmite.
It didn’t get back up.
It remains glowing after death allowing me to get a good look at my attacker.
A somewhat salamander looking thing but with some key differences.
Like an alligator-like head, the fact that it was the size of a large cat and the numerous purple glowing stones on its back.
'That's one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen.' I thought nauseously.
'Oh look, a few fell off when it hit the ground.' I poke one with the tip of my knife , expecting it to be squishy and slimy.
Oddly enough it was only slimy.
'Sounds like quartz' I thought, picking them up and pocketing any loose stones.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
What can I say, I like shiny things.
In total I retrieved 9 glowing stones, they would probably come in use later.
Scratch that sooner cause it's dark as fuck without any creatures around.
'I still haven't moved from my original spot..how the fuck did I get here anyways?' I thought as I attempted to stand.
Key word attempted, a strange weight on my back caused me to stumble forward and onto my backpack.
Bewildered, I reached a free hand behind me to feel for the odd weight...
'Feathers!?' I pulled on them in an attempt to remove them only to be met with a pinching pain.
Wings
‘Breath’ They're attached.
Limp, feel like pins and needles when focusing on them but very real.
It's both exciting and terrifying.
Attempting to take a knee is met with more pins and needles but there's a new sensation at the base of my spine. Whatever that is, it is trapped in my pants.
This was definitely going to be a learning curve.
'Fuck my dress blues.' Feeling my back again to feel the clothing.
Slightly damp and very frayed tears were felt.
Most definitely cutting off circulation to the new appendages.
There's no saving the dress top. Honestly I'm surprised the whole thing wasn't shred to pieces. The fabric was thick enough that there wasn't any single point of weakness. But surely coming apart at the seams had to be more likely than this cluster fuck.
Taking my clean knife , I reach under my top threading the blade in between the cloth and feathers. I cut a slit under one wing down to the bottom, freeing it and granting me relief.
I felt the blood run into the appendage making me feel lightheaded. I can feel Cold static through the wing as it sags on the ground.
It feels amazing though.
One more time, I repeated the previous steps and freed the other and pulled off the top. Almost falling on my face in the process. I braced myself before checking out my shirt.
The under shirt was in slightly better condition.
This material was significantly thinner than the canvas top and actually tore at the flanking seams.
I'm definitely happy I like my uniform shirts a little baggy or the front would be uncomfortably tight.
I picked at the loose threads until I had about two inches of loose thread and tied them to keep them from falling apart any further.
Now onto the pants.
Feeling around gingerly my hand came into contact with soft , thick fur .
A tail.
‘This is fine, everything is fine.’
Luckily the navy’s dress blue pants have lace up backs as well as buttons in the front. Just A little tug at the small bit of fabric behind the lace and unlacing it was ready to go.
I pulled the tail out and over the lacing rivets , where it sat rather comfortably.
Then replace it till the pants fit comfortably again.
I was disappointed that I couldn’t see what my new appendages looked like, even with the glowing stones and my phone's flashlight, I couldn’t quite get a good look at them.
I reattempted standing, expecting similar results to the first time.
Except the tail acted as a perfect counterweight to the wings.
It would definitely take some getting used to but they didn’t feel..wrong to have.
I tried moving my left wing out, moving my left arm out with it until it touched the cavern wall. It was sluggish, but in the same way as if you had slept on your arm. I giggled lightly at the feeling.
I thought of the possibility of flying.
Just thinking about it felt like breathing in cool, crisp air.
Realistically it was improbable, the possibility of my spontaneously acquired wings being too small for flight was a fair.
Then again what were the chances of growing WINGS.
Trying not to get too excited,I folded my new wings close to my body.
They easily covered my shoulders, they were so soft, warm, they felt… safe.
‘Why?’ I questioned before I decided it wasn’t important at this moment.
I observed my surroundings more closely.
It still seemed like a mostly normal cave but with magic.
.
.
Until I looked at the floor.
A two circles had been carved into the floor. One inside the other. They had the faintest hint of a glow.
Right at the center was the bug out that I’d brought with me.
‘Ok so , I’m shoving that in my mental filing cabinet for later.’ I thought, taking a quick picture in case something happened to it.
There’s no way I’m processing that right now without calming down first.
Instead I decided to grab my bag, it took me a second to figure out how to put it on before realizing the sizing straps could be taken off and put back on.
With the bag comfortably over both my wings and shoulders I started looking for a way out.
Keeping a blade drawn just in case
