Ch 4. Common tongue

Ch 4. Common tongue

As soon as the elf started chanting I got the headache of the century but if her face was anything to go by it wasn't pleasant for her either. I wanted to pull my hand away and I almost did until I heard it.

Well I was already hearing it but I was starting to understand what she was saying.

"—- Êü—— may—-piec— in- for-

Und- autho- of monjåi and raja, watchers of the realms, guardians of life and death, custodians of balance, I Renlee Ven Gal trade knowledge of thee so thou shall converse in common tongue." I braced against the table as a wave of vertigo hit me like a truck .

The hogman, who was leaning against the wall, approached the table once again.

"Good morning, I am officer Ragnam with the rescue corps, I'd like to ask you some questions if that's alright." He started calmly.

I lifted my head to meet his gaze and took a deep breath.

" Good morning to you too, I'm Alexandria Corvira ,call me Alex and I'd be happy to answer your questions." I said attempting to sound confident.

Officer Ragnam huffed and sat in the now unoccupied seat at the table. Wait, when did the elf leave?

The officer taped on the table to regather my attention.

" Do you have any identification on you? Our station scanner didn't recognize you."

" Yes sir, but I don't know how valid it will be here ." I started pulling out my state ID. Best leave the military out of this just in case.

Officer Ragnam gave a slightly confused look at my ID before handing it back.

"Is this your first time out of your realm?"He asked with a huff casually. So I decided to roll with it.

" Yes sir, I got struck by lightning and in an instant I was in the caverns." Matching his tone. He huffed again and closed his eyes before calling down the hall again.

"VEN Can You Grab The Registration Papers?!" Holy mother of- I can feel his voice in my lungs.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

The elf from before came sliding down the hall with said paperwork and something else that I couldn't quite see.

" Sounds like you had a rift open on you, I'd be best to get checked out soon. It's rare but things happen when exposed to that much raw power." He stated, 'ok so around here it's probably not uncommon to end up walking into a random portal.'

"Ok, um.. do I need to do anything with the papers?"my false confidence wavering.

He looks up from said papers and replies.

" Hmm, yes I need your mana signature, just place your hand here after you look them over." He gestured to a box on said papers.

I read them through and through.

It was odd to read something that I both understood and didn't at the same time.

Essentially what it said was, by placing my hand on the paper I'd be registered as a known entity in the realms of sol.

By registering law enforcement could identify me while going through checkpoints and I'd be able to use public transportation between realms.

It would automatically keep track of name, maturity, biological sex, species, home realm, required dietary needs, general nature, criminal history and oddly enough rank.

All stored in a little tag that could be stored anywhere on the body.

It sounds convenient and I couldn't find any way this could harm me .

so I placed my hand in the box and watched as the tag rose from the table before dropping back down.

Officer Ragnam then clinked a little card to the tag before addressing me.

"This is what gate guards will see when you pass though, as long as you behave yourself you shouldn't have any trouble." He said as he turned the card over to me.

Name: Alexandria van Corvira

Sex: Female

Species: Ascendant ‘TF is an ascendant’

Realm:Terra

Diet: omnivore

General nature: mutualistic

Criminal history: None

"Before I turn you loose, I'm gonna need to give you a briefing on Sol laws, since this is the central realm Ordis, the law may vary from what you're used to . I recommend reading the guide before you leave as well." He said handing me both the promised documents and the tag.

The tag was placed on my dog tag's chain before I dove into the guide with excitement. I've always loved learning, and now that I have seen actual MAGIC at work, I was going to learn everything I can about this new world.

I stretched my arms up and a soft yet noticeable pop sounded from my shoulders allowing myself to relax.

Today has been one hell of an adventure but I'm not currently in danger. I can relax a little.

Suddenly, and without warning, I felt lighter and maybe a little colder. Almost disturbingly so.

It wasn’t hard to figure out the difference. My new wings seemingly disappeared, if it weren't for the fact that I could still feel them, albeit mutedly, I'd be panicking. The tail stayed visible which was a huge comfort for some reason .

‘Ok retractable wings, ain't that a bio impossibility.’ My mind joked as if that were the weirdest thing I've seen today. Right focus, things to learn.

I leaned forward over the table and curled my tail over my lap as I began to read.
