Introduction

We discovered the Tower. Or – maybe – the Tower discovered us. I am Sergeant First Class Peter Springs of the US Army and I lead a squad of seven of the rudest and toughest people you will ever meet. This is most likely the last message that I'll be able to transmit before we enter that — thing. I remember the day we found it. We wanted it to be kept a secret – the military wanted it to be kept a secret. But how do you hide a tower the size of the Statue of Liberty. Sure we can keep military bases off the maps but when a tower pops up in downtown DC, how do you hide it?

Religions from around the world claimed it was the beginning of the end. We didn't know what to believe but we didn't believe that. Downtown DC was quarantined. Six squads were sent to investigate the tower and search for survivors. My squad was the first to arrive. The tower had risen though part of the street and through two office buildings. The base of the building was about 100 meters in diameter. It seemed like the tower was constructed from the darkest bricks but for some reason, I still don't think that “bricks” is the right material to call it. It sure did look like it though I don't know why the construction didn't seem quite … human and the bricks didn't seem quite … brick-ey. The area was swept through and survivors were brought to the local hospital under military watch.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

It's been three weeks and the tower is still there. As part of the initial groups that was sent to investigate the tower, we were tasked oncer again to go back. From what we were told, they figured the tower was pretty safe as it hadn't done anything strange since it broke through the street. Most of the rubble had been cleared out by now. A door was found. A “door” is just what we referred to it as. What it really was were two giant slabs of stone that we couldn't blow our way through.

Dear Maria,

We're going to try and enter the tower again. The military is trying to keep as few people as necessary in contact with the tower since we don't know what's going on with it yet. And since my squad is still alive, we're being sent again. I don't know what we're going to find but if we don't make it back, I hope you get this letter Maria and know that I love you. I know I've been secretive this past month. I'm sorry. If I don't make it back, take care of Isaac.

Sincerely, Peter.
