Chapter 7

Back at the library Edward’s attempt to apologize ended in failure, instead he found himself at the receiving end of a fairly long lecture. In the brief time he had spent resting, the Artanis had completed the research regarding Arkmek.

"And then Arkmerk's brother built a temple over it." Said Artanis, explaining to him what she had found in Azerhen Sethmielr’s diary. On the book were its creator’s deepest secrets, including many stories of Karnagmiel’s royalty.

Her lecture also included the information gotten from one of the librarians, that the original book had been found years ago, inside the ruins of an ancient crypt. It had been buried along with Azerhen Sethmielr, who had literally taken his secrets along with him to his grave.

According to Karnagmiel’s custom one’s grave was considered a sacred place, anything buried in it would never be seen again. However in the future an archeologist ignored the so called holiness of Azerhen’s final resting place. During the ruin’s excavation many treasures were found including the original copy of the book.

Artanis also told him that having discovered the location of the tomb thanks to translating the books contents, she had gained fifty fame points and according to the message could sell her findings to the archeology guild for an ever larger reward. Edward was somewhat disappointed that he did not gain fame for it as well, but since if not for her, he would never have found the tomb’s location, he decided not to complain as it would not change anything.

“I see, but how did you manage to read it?” Asked Edward, surprised by her feat.

“Because of this.” She said, showing him a one of the two books she had read about the ancient Versaillian language.

“Ancient Versaillian?” He mumbled, being a wizard he had read countless books. But not even one of them mentioned the existence of such language. The reason for that were his level, yet to reach the needed power to use ancient magic, like many users he would only have come in contact with such language during the study of such spells. Artanis being an extremely rare exception, she was the lowest leveled player to have ever discovered it.

“That reminds me, how did your quest, go?” Freed from the stress of the research, he remembered the conversation they had at the restaurant.

“I already completed it, and I also…” She said, stopping midway, as if thinking about something.

“Also?” Asked Edward, curious about what she had to say.

“I started working at a store.” She said, not mentioning neither, Wystan nor the fact she had became his apprentice.

“So you will become a merchant?” He asked, curious about what class she would become. A merchant being far from what he wished she would become, in fact. If it were up to him, she should become a dancer. Swaying her beautiful body, wearing tight, scarce clothing, she would dance, just for him. If not that, a bard would also be fine. So he could hear her sweet voice as she sang, confessing her love for him. In fact, the reason he had invited her into the guild was to have the opportunity to get closer to her.

“That might be a good idea.” She said, unaware of the reasons she had been invited to Gold Tree. She were the first classless player to ever join it, acting as if he had suddenly decided to help newbie’s, he informed others of his intention to invite a low level player to the guild. Using his authority as the guild’s elder, he convinced the guild to accept his wish. And so Artanis joined Gold Tree, only his brother Edmund knew better, having heard how he had described her in a PM.

Edward, having explained their discovery to the rest of the guild, grabbing their full attention with the mention of a possibly unexplored dungeon.

“So, we all agree to meet in Rockheim in one in-game month?” Asked Edmund, Edward’s older brother, and the leader of Gold Tree.

“Sure, but it might take a few more days for me and Kurochwi.” Said Dario, who was at the sea on a merchant ship along with Kurochwi a low-level orc berserker, who was a huge fan of Karichwi, an extremely ugly orc from a hall of the fame video. Thanks to that orc effort’s not only orcs and dark elves were unlocked, but the necromancer class as well.

“Fine, as long it’s just a day or two. The longer we wait, the higher the chance of someone else discovering the dungeon’s location.” Commented Edward, who had along with Artanis, spent a large amount of time researching, the dungeon’s location. The idea of not being among its first explorers, did not please him.

“Indeed, it’s as my brother said. We cannot let his and Artanis’s discovery be taken by someone else.” Added Edmund, aware of how hard his brother had worked on the dungeon’s location research. Thanks to the constant stream of PMs filled with nothing but complaints, he had received from him.

By now, everyone had accepted Artanis as a valuable asset to the guild, not many were willing stay inside a library reading for hours to research something. Even those we were not very pleased with the fact a complete newbie had joined their beloved guild, could not dismiss this valuable trait.

“Well Artanis, I will log-off now. See you later.” Told Edward, moments before his character became a blue light sphere; and soon it started floating towards the sky. Passing through the ceiling, it disappeared from her sight.

‘What to do now?’ She asked herself, having been left alone in the library. She could always continue to read books, but she had done so for many hours. She could return to the workshop, but the store was currently closed and having nothing else she could practice her skills on, she had gone through the whole stock of damaged wares. She by no means wanted to log-off, having waited so long to play she wanted to do her best to catch up with her friend Laura, who were a level 162 blade dancer.

Noticing her hunger, she decided to leave the library in search of food. She did not have to search much, as outside at the park were a food vendor.

“Isn’t this park beautiful at night?” Asked the middle-aged female vendor, who was looking at beautiful garden, illumined by the mysterious stone paths, that for some reason, different from what they had looked like in the day had a pale white glow.

“Indeed, I just wonder how they make the stones glow. Is it perhaps some kind of magic?” Was Artanis’s answer to the woman’s question. Who from the very start of the game, decided to treat both players and NPC’s the same. Doing so had the advantage of increasing your familiarity at a faster face compared to someone who treats NPC’s as soulless robots. But she did not have that in mind, when she decided to do so, the reason was much simpler, she considered it, easier for her to do so.

“It’s not magic my dear, they are created using a stone called moonlight’s shard. Which at night reflect the moon’s light.” Explained the middle age woman, this park were her favorite place in Rockheim. Having visited it for years, she knew just about anything about it. In fact, she loved this place so much, she closed a small restaurant she had and opened a barbecue cart on the park.

“Oh, right. Your food’s total cost is two silver and twenty coopers. I hope you enjoy it.” Receiving the coins, she handed the food to Artanis, but before she had left the cart, the woman once again spoke.

“Of all the flowers in this garden, the large pearl colored ones are my favorite. Sadly, I do not know their name. Perhaps you do?” Asked the middle-aged woman, as she pointed towards a certain flower, the flower had many long, white petals, which resembled a certain variety of lily. And each petal reflected the moon's light as if it were a pearl.

“I will find its name for you.” Said Artanis, perhaps she would have done so, even if it were not a quest. As she, also held interest in that flower. Having heard her words, the woman smiled.

“Thank you my dear, I will be waiting here for you.” She said, just before Artanis left. Having search for somewhere she could eat in peace, she sat under a tree. Next to it were many varieties of flowers, ranging from the most mundane flowers such as daisies to rare and unique ones such as the pearl colored flower.

‘Not bad’ She thought, taking a sip off her mead jug. She had only drank mead before once, being an uncommon drink in her country. She had liked its sweet aroma and taste. Her hobby being eating different kinds of foods and drinks, she could not resist when she saw a drink unique to this world. It taste would be the nightmare of anyone who disliked overly sweet or mildly spicy things.

Soon she had chewed that last piece of wolf meat, which despite its tough appearance were softer than it looked. Perhaps it was an evidence of the cook’s skill. Having finished her meal, she walked towards a nearby patch of pearl colored flowers. Crouching as to look them more closely, having focused her eyes into them a window appeared.

Normally one would have to spend time researching at a library for information about a flower’s name and attributes. But thanks to her Herbology skill, not only she did not need to do so, but she also gained skill proficiency each time she inspected a flower, or other kinds of plants.

Having easily discovered the information necessary to her quest, she decided to head back to the food’s vendor location. A short walk after, she were before the middle-aged woman.

“Back so soon?” She asked, surprised to see Artanis back to her cart in such a short time. Not even an hour had passed since she had gone somewhere to eat.

‘I wonder where all that food goes’ Thought the middle aged woman, who thought Artanis had came back for more food. Royal Road often, was used by dieting women, since they could satisfy their desires in game, while not affecting their real bodies. There were even a few e-books created that promoted it as the perfect dieting tool. But this was not Amanda’s case, as she had a trait envied by women through the world. That is the ability to eat as much she wanted with almost not gaining any weight.

“I am not here for the food.” Artanis stated, as if she could read, the woman’s mind.

“Is that so? Then what can I help you with?” She asked, slightly embarrassed for the fact the young elven maiden before her had guessed what she thought.

“The flower’s name is Freya’s Grace.” Artanis told the woman, wishing to finish the quest as fast as possible. Secretly she thought that another jug of mead or kebab would not hurt, by did not wish to give that taste to the woman before her.
