Chapter 1 | Looks like we're stuck

I am Azrinth, with my task force.

Arcturus is the leader

Desmosis is the technician

Beta is the navigator

Neo is the medic

And I am the sneaky guy.

We were using a hyperdrive when it was destabilized and dropped everyone into an alternate universe

Now our spacecraft is in utter shambles with almost everything broken.

----------------------------------------

Arcturus was at the hyperdrive, tinkering with it.

"We have to figure out how to get back," he says.

Arcturus was a young man, tall and heavily built. He was wearing heavy armor covering him from shoulders to toe and mounted onto his back was the Ep, a fearsome weapon.

He tasked Beta to survey the surroundings.

"All readings say the air is capable of safe consumption without treatment, and it seems like we are in a forest that is filled with the old earth type trees."

"Azrinth, go out and get a personal look, most of our inbuilt scanners are broken and you are the least likely to be noticed" Arcturus said

"Yes sir!" I replied

I donned stealth equipment, grabbed a multi-scanner, and headed out of the spacecraft. I went into the woods and started to walk around the forest, scanning it with the scanner.

I spotted a small group moving along a path, no bigger than a few dozen and spoke into comms.

"Got twelve people approaching, should I observe them?"

"Affirmative, remain hidden but observe," Arcturus replies

I wait a few moments and the people continue approaching the spacecraft, they look different, their clothing is different, but they look the same as people. I felt a shiver run through me, this is too close to home.

I made my way towards them completely invisible. As I walked I noticed that they were carrying simple spears and wearing somewhat ragged clothing.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

I spoke into the comms.

"We have what looks like normal humans: 4 adults, 5 adolescents, and 3 kids.

I'm sending images for further analysis."

"Acknowledged," Arcturus replies

I waited patiently, had no idea what they were talking about while standing around the ship, but they didn't react aggressively so I stayed where I was.

"Hey, am I able to speak to them?."

"Negatory Azrinth. We have the language system running but we aren't even close to decrypting the language."

Desmosis chimed in "On a side note, the images have been analyzed and we got some results"

"What did you get?"

"Their weapons and clothes match the medieval section of the Earth era, but our current predicament matches many novels created during the information and emergence sections of the Earth era. When the genre of "Isekai" was created"

“How did you find this out?”

“I like reading Isekai in my free time”

“Don't tell me you replaced some of the ship data to store your books”

“I learned from last time boss, I saved it in my HUD memory”

Time passed and the group of twelve started walking back to where they appeared from. The sun was setting and I slowly returned to the inside of the spacecraft.

I asked, "What is the percentage for low-level language translation?"

"About ninety percent," Arcturus responds. "But I got bad news, it's confirmed that the hyperdrive can't be fixed or modified to invert the dimensional jump without a high-tier fabricator"

"So what should we do?" Desmosis replies

"Beta, Neo, get off your butts and go out. Azrinth, join them, we might as well survey farther out. Meanwhile, me and Desmosis will try to fix up the basic fabricator."

----------------------------------------

The forest was dark, but the stars were beautiful, bright and twinkling. The cool air was refreshing and I spent a few minutes just enjoying the moment.

Using the direction the twelve people walked towards, relative to our spacecraft we trekked towards their origin point.

We stopped not far outside some walls that were in the way. Beta climbed a tree and looked at what was past.

"Looks like some kind of town of sorts" he reported. “I’ll send you a live feed”

I now looked at the town from Beta’s eyes. A few people milling about in the streets. The wall surrounded the entire town and there were a few guards patrolling.

I tiptoed towards the wall and placed an auditory recording device.

This microphone will pick up their voices and we can continue the translation program from afar.

Suddenly, one of the guards appeared very close to us and I dashed to the bushes

"a guard is getting close, I placed a mic and I don't know if the guard saw me"

"We did what we needed to, we can go deeper into the forest to lose any people trying to find us, before continuing" Neo responded.

We sneakily moved deeper into the forest, and after a while returned to the surveillance path we were taking.

Once we finished we headed towards our spacecraft.

"Everything looks fine, Other than the village we don't have much else to worry about" I said.

We walked into the engineering room.

Desmosis and Arcturus were both on the floor examining what looked to be a small rectangular tanning bed covered in carbon-fiber plating

"How is it going?" I say to Desmosis.

"Multiple power nodes are busted so we need to use solar for power, luckily we do have the raw materials to create a few more power nodes but can’t make them until we get sunlight"

"Unfortunate"

“Well we can do the best we can with what we got.”

“I think we should head to sleep,” Arcturus announced. “I’ll keep watch first”
