Faena let out a sharp, dog-like bark and dropped to her knees. Aris and Mul both stepped back as the sounds of bones snapping and reforming echoed through the waiting room. Before anyone could regain their composure Faena had become a four-foot-long badger. As she barreled towards the door Elfyr made the wise decision and got out of the way. Talae was waiting in the hall and met Badge-Faena with a hard punch on the snout, followed by picking her up and throwing her back through the waiting room and the door to Aris' office. Aflia let out a yelp as she was showered in splinters, but maintained enough composure to put an icebolt into Badger-Faena's exposed belly. The pain of crashing through a door and the shock of the icebolt tearing into her belly was too much for Badger-Faena, who began to shift back to human form. When Faena had finished shifting she started to sit up but stopped short.
A fully-grown cougar sat in the doorway to Aris' office, watching her expectantly, waiting for her to make another foolish move. Faena slumped to the ground with a whimper and gave up.
Aris eased his morningstar back onto his belt, "Druid Ena, thank you. Are there any precautions we should take while keeping ms. Greenleaf in custody?"
Ena shifted back into her elven form with a minimum of disturbing sounds, and much more quickly then Faena has shifted form, "single entrance and exit, and have someone watching her at all times. That should do until the Druids of the Circle of the Lands arrive in a day or two."
Aris gave a half-bow of thanks, "I'll set two guards as a minimum, just in case. Mul, Escort our 'guest' here to the lockup and keep watch on her until I can get formal orders to cover you."
Mul gave a nod, vanished her battleaxe, and half dragged half carried Faena out of the the office.
Aris gave a sigh as he looked at the broken door, "mr. Elfyr, is there any particular priority to Lord Wavethunder's report, or is this one pure routine?"
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Elfyr picked himself up of the floor, "not that I'm aware of Lord Trebor. The gist of it, once the formal language is stripped away, is that Lord Wavethunder has begun his investigation into the Old Temple, and that I'm your assigned liaison to the project. No findings as of yet, as the specialists are just beginning to arrive on Cencin."
Aris held out a hand for the report, then tucked it under his arm, "I see that Lord Wavethunder is keeping things 'in the family' as it were. Is there anything that I need to know about the local midsummer festivals? I'll be bringing the mayor of Ikin in, of course, but..."
Elfyr frowned, then shook his head, "nothing I can think of that would be different form midsummer festivals that I've seen in human lands. A week off of serious work, with most of the afternoons spent at games or song or drink."
Aris wiped his brow theatrically, "phew, that's a relief then. The mayor of Ikin should have some rough plans that we can scale up and adapt."
Elfyr gave a wry smile and bow, "I'll leave you to it then Lord Trebor. Be well."
"And safe travels to you."
