Friday June 13, You are on a car ride to your grandfather's house. After living in the city for most of your life you are dreading the arrival. You grandfather was previously an explorer of mythic treasures, a mysterious job that made his cabin a near museum.
You spent most of your childhood visiting him until your family moved into the city, where a lot more wonderful things could be found on the internet. No longer had paperback books interested you as you liked to read many stories online, as well as video's and games. You haven't been back and you heard a couple of years ago your grandfather retired.
You had nearly forgotten about the family deciding to go on a trip to visit your grandfather. Almost as if a joke to you, your mother and father were busy but instead of leaving you alone (although you could fend for yourself) they decided to let you go ahead and visit grandfather.
You sigh in the taxi. you were going to stay a month in a cabin with near to nothing to do, you could feel yourself growing bored as you brought out your phone to play on.
After you were an hour away from your grandfather's house your phone died. Grunting in disatisfaction you put the phone away and looked out the window at the tiny village town your grandfather retired to.
When the taxi drops you to your location you pay the driver with the money your mother had prepared and the driver said it wasn't enough. The driver was getting angry at you and began to yell that you were scamming him, but suddenly grandfather came by.
Your grandfather was huge, a humoungous 6' 8" and he came thumping out of the forest with an axe over his shoulder.
"What seems to be the problem here" your Grandfather asked.
The driver went pale in a little bit of fear looking up at the giant. stuttering the word 'It's nothing.' he got in the car, slamming on the acceleration. As the car was blazing off, your grandfather turned to you, his frown turning into a wide smile.
He pulled you into a bear hug.
"Your here! I was cutting wood at the cabin when I heard that man yelling at you, but nothing semed to be a problem, how have you been?"
You explain that you're fine, a taking a bit of a wheeze after the hug. You begin to walk with your grandfather back in the direction of the cabin. Making small talk about your time in the city.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Your grandfather explains he always thought the city was too crowded and that it was so peaceful out here in the forest. You almost roll your eyes, Peaceful? It sounds extemely boring but you dont want to hurt your grandfather's feelings.
You get to the cabin and he decides to show you around.
"I know you haven't been here in a while I got a couple of new treasures!" He says in excitement "I've been wanting to show you all but I'm glad you at least got to come."
You feel a little bad about being the only one in the family who had to visit. Everyone on your father's side said grandfather was an eccentic that shouldn't be taken seriously, but that's totally not true. You look up to your grandfather, the huge guy acting like a kid showing you antiques. Okay maybe he is a little weird but that means maybe your trip won't be as boring as you thought.
"I got these three keys in my last expedition, the rest of the crew had no idea what they could have been used for, and said I could keep them as my retirement gift." Grandfather said
It was getting late and you were near falling asleep to all of the things your grandfather was showing you. Suddenly you snap awake at the words "Ah it's Dinnertime" And walk into the dining room and sit down your grandfather making a quick dinner.
"For dinner we've got mashed potatoes, some wild boar meat, and some steamed carrots"
You look on in amazement at the delicious array of food. your grandfather procceeds to tell you that everything was either hunted or farmed in his back garden you dig in.
After dinner your grandfather takes you to your old room, the one you used to stay in when your family visited. You walk in and the room is a bit dusty with all of your old toys and explorer gear lining the walls on short shelves. A skylight is on the roof letting moonlight flow in, lighting the room. You feel a brief memory of grabbing your explorer gear and playing in the forest.
"Have a good night kid, we're going to have such a fun day tomorrow!" your grandfather closes the door.
You lay on the bed a bit exhausted from all that happened today. You close your eyes and drift to sleep, dreaming of all the adventures you went on as a kid.
BAM!
You jump awake in fright. What was that? You get a little embarassed as you actually jumped at a bump in the night, but it sounded really loud and your embarrassment is gone. You grab your old explorers pack taking out a flashlight as you walk downstairs.
When you get down the stairs there is a Door smack dab in the middle of the room, as you get close there is a note pinned to the door.
Do not Open! Dangerous! Just go back to bed and we'll talk about this in the morning - Grandfather
Under the note is a doorknob and three keyholes. The look very simular to the keys your grandfather showed you! Unable to hide your curiousity you go and grab the keys.
One is shaped like the head of a Dragon with the tail wrapping around the end.
One is the shape of a Spade with hearts and dianmonds down the shaft.
One is shiny, Glittering gold and silver like a Coin.
You move them towards the keyhole.
