Chapter 1: The Day it all started

A sudden temperature rise forced everyone to lock themselves in their homes in a city that appears deserted.

In a one-bedroom apartment, a man lay on his bed sweating profusely while covering himself with a quilt.

The news of recent events in the world was being shown on television.

He turned to look at the news, which was showing images of the crater caused by a meteor.

A huge meteor struck a major city two days ago. It resulted in an abrupt rise in temperature after it vaporized the city in an instant.

Nobody has explained why the world’s space agencies failed to detect the asteroid that caused the tragedy.

An unexpected knock on the door jolted him from his thoughts. Frustrated, he stood up with difficulty.

“Who is it?” he shouted but did not receive any response.

Once more, the door was knocked loudly.

“Is someone joking or what?” he muttered and then strolled towards the door.

His gaze inched towards the peephole to see the girl outside her apartment, but something seemed odd.

This girl, who also lives alone in the other apartment, gets along well with him.

“What’s wrong with her?” he thought but opened the door without hesitation.

“What’s up?” he asked, but was surprised when she stood still. She stared at him with disheveled hair and reddened eyes. His heart sank when he saw her eyes.

Suddenly, she jumped at him, trying to bite through. He moved to the side to avoid her.

“Are you crazy? What are you doing?” he screamed at her, but she jerked her head back and jumped at him again.

“I don’t understand what’s going on,” he broke into a sigh and avoided her, hitting her strongly on the back of her head to knock her unconscious.

Although she fell on the floor, she did not become unconscious. While she made strange sounds and chattered her teeth, she slowly crawled towards him.

As he believed something wasn’t right, he hastened to get the rope from the cupboard to tie her up.

He quickly retrieved the rope and tied her up, avoiding the bite after the hit on her head made her slow.

His eyes were fixed on her after tying her up. As he saw her eyes red, and she was hardly herself, making some weird sounds and trying to bite him again, she looked just like a zombie in the movies.

He ran back to the door to close it quickly and peeked outside the window to see what was going on. Since his apartment was on the tenth floor, he had an excellent view of the street.

“What the fuck is going on” he murmured. His shock was evident when he noticed people were wandering.

People were being attacked by some of these zombies. Everything seemed to be chaos.

Despite being tied up, the girl kept making weird noises. A little bit later, he walked back to his bedroom after looking at the girl.

Upon getting into his room, he pulled a suitcase out from under the bed. Once it was opened, the suitcase contained an SMG and a pistol, along with several magazines.

He carried the handgun when he walked out of the room. Once more, he looked out the window to find the situation had worsened.

“GRRRRRRRRRRR”

Strange noises kept coming from the girl. After some thought, he shot the girl through the head.

While the brain splattered on the ground, the man’s reaction suggests that he was not truly disgusted by it, as if he had shot many people through their brains.

Still feeling unwell, he went back to his room and laid down. He felt like something inside his body was changing.

As he closed his eyes, he fell asleep. Upon opening his eyes, he felt quite better. As he glanced out the window, it was still dark outside.

He still felt quite surreal about everything that happened this afternoon. Taking out his cellphone, he discovered that the signal was still strong. While staring at the phone for a long time, he kept hesitating to make a call, but after a bit, he put it back in his pocket.

Standing up, he returned to the hall. His eyes were drawn to the television that still showed the image of the crater as the headless corpse of the girl still lied there.

After that, he stood by the window to observe the street’s condition. To his surprise, he could see it despite the darkness outside.

“What’s going on?” he muttered.

Although his body underwent some changes, he kept his cool and focused on the situation outside.

The so-called zombies were still roaming outside, but there was no sign of life anywhere.
