Kim glanced at the new messages and asked Thanatos a simple question that would forever change his fate.

“What does it mean to be a ‘Player God?’”

“If I’m a player then this whole world is a game” Kim said in an accusatory and spiteful tone. “If this is a game then that means that you gods cursed my world so that you could get more entertainment, you greedy bastards.”

Kim suddenly heard a voice behind him and quickly turned around.

“So you’ve grasped the secret of the gods?”

Kim observed this elderly man who despite his old age, had a muscular build, however, looked frail and weak. His appearance was very misleading, resulting in Kim underestimating him.

“Who are you?”

“I am the creator of the system. My appearance is not important, I am simply here to talk to the first ever player who became a god. You are the only one qualified to glimpse at the secrets that this world has hidden. I will give you the answers to all of your questions.”

Kim turned around and looked at this gentleman. His status screen appeared.

Kim asked his first question.

“Why would you make a system like this? It has sent many worlds into ruin…”

“The system wasn’t originally designed for that. It used to simply be a method of quantifying a persons abilities via the usage of numbers. However, the gods boredom made them decide that they would update the system, allowing monsters and their mana to come down to earth. A very small number of humans were able to grow stronger and ended up becoming “Awakened” while others simply died…”

“So basically the gods turned this normal world into a world full of pain, destruction and violence because of their lack of entertainment?”

“Not only that, the gods learned that they could gain power by amassing subordinates from these earths. However, there was an issue with their plan. Each time they started this experiment, there were was an absence of representatives from the new worlds. This was able to be fixed by simply implanting in those people from the past worlds, sound familiar?”

“The {Returner} skill?”

“Yes. The existence of the {Returner} skill allowed for the timelines to change and for the gods to enjoy themselves while the humans suffered. However it also caused issues for them. The people with the returner skill tended to be ones with high potential for the future. All of the past returners learned of the god’s evil schemes and were executed and their powers revoked… You are the first ever {Returner} to become safe from the god’s evil acts.”

“How can I put an end to this cruel system?”

“There’s a simple explanation and a complicated explanation. Which would you rather hear?”

“The simple explanation.”

“You need to destroy the system’s main body.”

“Seems easy enough. Wait, what’s the catch?”

“The system isn’t some intangible object, it is a physical multidimensional object that has my powers sealed within. When I finished building the system it was originally a device to show peoples strengths, however, the constellations decided that stealing my powers and sealing them within this artefact in order to grant humans power would be the best scenario. So the artefact began working and they used the powers of the constellation Master Over Matter to split up the artefact into hundreds of pieces.”

“So I need to go find those hundreds of pieces, assemble the proper system and then get your powers from it?”

“Correct.”

“So where are these pieces?”

“They are scattered all over earth. You’ve heard of the 7 demon lords, right?”

“Yes.”

“They were normal monsters who absorbed part of the system. I still have partial authority over the system so I can provide you with a tiny bit of help.”

“That number next to Chimera refers to what percentage of the system you have found. If you look at other peoples status screens you should be able to see how much of the system that have absorbed.”

“Thanks. So if I find parts of the system, I will grow stronger?”

“Yes. Also, you can awaken as a god. Currently, you have no godly title. If you were to awaken your godly powers, you will gain strength.”

“Thank you for your help. I have one final question.”

“Sure.”

“Are there gods who weren’t involved in the system being put on earth?”

“Yes.”

“Who?”

“Thieving, Judge of Humanity, Demonic Prisoner and the Black Flame Dragon. They opposed the constellations decisions and used their powers to help humanity to stop the incoming monster invasions.”

“I see. Am I able to sign a contract with you?”

“No.”

“Alright. So now what happens?”

“I will simply stop existing on earth and return back to the astral plane.”

“Okay, so you won’t be dead right?”

“Yes, I’ll still be alive. I’ll be watching your progress.”

“Thank you so much.”

“No problem.”

The creator of the system vanished as quickly as he had arrived. Kim sat down next to Sung Yoosung and fell asleep…

Kim awoke surrounded by a horde of monsters. There were hundreds of them, including multiple boss monsters. Kim quickly observes their status screens and located the strong ones.

Kim put his hand over his face and laughed a magical laugh.

“Mwahahahaha. You think that you can kill me?”

“Don’t test me. I could kill you with my foot if I wanted to. I am the left hand of the Demon Lord of Beasts, the strongest and most fearsome of the Demon Lords”

“Hahaha… A puny demon lord’s servant thinks that they can defeat a god.”

Kim charged forwards at the Beast Lord, he summoned his abyssal sword and stabbed it directly through the Beast Lord’s chest, however it didn’t have his desired effect.

Suddenly Kim heard a voice from behind him start speaking.

“God’s Blessing. God’s Sword. God’s Shield. Status Buff.”

Sung Yoosung who was standing behind Kim suddenly passed out. Kim realised that he had run out of mana from using too many buff skills at once, however Kim was now strong enough to be called a calamity. Currently his stats were stronger than the stats of the Demon Lord of Spiders from 5 years in the future, however the Demon Lord of Spiders still had better skills.

Kim charged at the Beast Lord again and drove his sword directly through his chest one more time, however, the result was much much different. The Beast Lord fell to the ground as his blood splattered out of his body. He had died from a single strike. The remaining monsters charged at Kim hoping to kill him, however, their punny stats were no match for such a player. Kim shouted out “Abyssal Chains” and suddenly thousands of dark chains surrounded the area and utterly disfigured and murdered them. Kim received a bunch of status messages.

So Kim strategised for an hour until Sung Yoosung woke up.

“Oh hey Yoosung. I’m just writing a plan for what to do in the future.”

Kim had wanted to give Sung the returner skill so that he would be able to travel with him through dimensions but after talking to the creator he had gained a new enlightenment.

‘After talking to the creator, I realised that I can’t give him the returner skill… It would offset the timelines and cause duplicate to appear. Actually, I’m a god now. It’s time to see what I can do.’

Kim realised that this was directed at him. Suddenly all of the monsters that Kim had been observing experienced a 1 rank power-up. The C ranked hobgoblin that he was killed by in his second life was now a B ranked monster. The Orcs from the horde where he died were now on par with the Orc Lord, being A-tiered. Kim tried to figure out a way to stop this. He realised that the gods were restricting his powers and trying to kill him due to his level and the strength of his new subordinate, Sung Yoosung. Kim only had one option.

“Use skill Godnet.”

Kim immediately went off to complete the system. He demonstrated extreme fighting power and managed to convince most of the system holders to give up their system without being killed so that his exp bar would not rise. He managed to accumulate 5% of the system.

Kim began his plan. He used his tracking skill to locate a very powerful enemy. A dragon. Kim used his power and temporarily gained the teleport skill from the system and teleported himself and Sung to the Lotte World Tower.

Kim looked around at where he had warped to. Around him, he saw carnage and destruction. Buildings were on fire and had fallen to the ground, thick, black clouds of smoke, rising up from the rubble into the environment. The sky was coloured bright red with flames as Kim looked upwards towards the top of the tower, he saw a giant red dragon right at the top that was breathing out flames. Kim checked its status screen.

Kim watched as the dragon spewed out his great breaths of flame. Kim quickly realised that he had made a giant mistake.

‘Oh shit… I can’t fly.’
