Chapter 7: To the Death!

Chapter 7: To the Death!

There was no time to think.

Ray reacted instinctively, holding onto the back seat and lashing out with his good foot.

Take this!

The force of his kick was so powerful that he caved in the goblin’s skull. Or rather, he thought it might’ve. The dim lighting made it hard to see exactly what was happening, only bits and pieces of the fight were actually visible. His phone flashlight was still in the front of the car as Ray wasn’t able to bring it to the back with him.

That goblin was done for, though. Ray had kicked its brains out, almost literally. Green blood and brain splashed onto the car seats and mixed in with his own, creating a sanguine atmosphere.

The dying goblin was knocked out of the car perfectly through the hole, dropping its club along the way. Ray was able to lean forward to quickly acquire its club before slinking back once more.

He had no time to celebrate his first intentional kill.

There were more sounds outside his car and Ray wasn’t sure that he could outlast the intruders. The only saving grace was that the goblins weren’t very bright. There was only one entrance that the goblins knew how to get through, one that he had intentionally created before. It would be a one on one scenario from here on out.

There was only one issue.

Ray was bleeding out. The crash had taken his left arm and most of his left leg out of commission. Maybe some ribs were cracked or broken, he wasn’t sure at this point. The pain was also settling in, a sharp ache in multiple parts of his body. To top it all off, he also felt a bit lightheaded.

There wasn’t enough time. Ray was panicking, his thoughts racing through his mind. He had to finish this fight before he died of blood loss. It was his only choice, waiting for a random driver to spot the crash. His survival was almost out of his hands.

He would need to defend himself until that happened.

“Come out and fight me!” Ray screamed loudly. He needed to attract the goblins inside faster. It was his only hope. If they broke the windows he was doomed. “Come and get me, you fucking goblins!”

Ray gripped his club tightly in his hand and turned to prepare himself for the upcoming battle. There were now multiple goblins in front of him because of his roar, staring at him through the windshield. All of them looked ready and anxious to pounce at him. The goblins piled towards the windshield all trying to make its way through the singular opening towards Ray.

Ray dove forward to grab his phone from its resting place in the front of the car. He reached it and angled the light to be able to see the broken windshield better. Its new place was on the sideways cup holder in the middle back seat.

There was no time to call the police or assess his injuries further. The goblins would get to him before that happened.

Ray readied himself to defend the incoming wave. This was a do or die situation.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The first goblin crawled in, snarling as if speaking in an alien language. The hole in the windshield had gotten wide enough for the goblin to easily climb through.

It paused a little out of Ray’s effective range of attack as if pondering how best to eat him. Then, using the groove of the window as a launching pad, it jumped.

Ray swung his club as this happened, hoping he was quick enough to react. His inhibitions were gone, and his right arm moved instinctively. The club met the goblin mid-air, knocking it back down and into the car. Its body blocked some of the entrance, but not enough to ensure his safety.

As soon he swung, the third goblin to enter the car had arrived. It stepped over the steering wheel, ignoring the death of its companion while holding eye contact with Ray. Its red eyes glimmered when faced with the phone light, making it look incredibly fierce.

It charged to the back once more, its claws outstretched in a desperate attempt to murder Ray.

Ray was ready this time, though. His right arm reacted in time to meet the goblin's claws, knocking them out of the way. He followed up with another swing to finish the goblin off once it was stunned.

Immediately after killing the goblin, Ray felt better.

His light-headedness went away and he regained some feeling in his arm. The sharp pains in his body lightened a bit as if he had recovered.

Wait a second... Ray quickly ran through the possibilities in his mind. Did I just?

There was no time to check. A fourth bloodthirsty goblin had entered the arena. It stepped over the bodies of its two fallen comrades to meet Ray in battle.

Ray finished it off easier this time. He realized that in a one-on-one enclosed confrontation, the goblins were easy to deal with. Though, he would still probably die if he missed a single swing.

Luckily the night was in his favor thus far, all things considered.

The goblins seemed to be in a possessed frenzy as if he were their mortal enemy. It was bizarre. Ray had never seen anything like it before in his life, save for that one time where a rabies-infected dog had tried to attack him.

Another goblin tried to make its way in but was met with the same fate. Ray was relieved that these goblins weren’t very smart, as they kept coming at him one by one through the crack in the front windshield. If they were a bit smarter, Ray was certain that he would be dead by now.

There were now six dead goblins piled in the car. Ray felt his injuries lighten once more. He was now well enough to reacquisition all his limbs, freely moving in a way he hadn’t been able to do before.

The corpses were now blocking the entrance to the windshield. The angry goblins outside were beginning to pound on the back windshield and front, seeing that their front entrance was blocked.

Ray knew he had limited time to act.

“Status, please,” Ray called out hoarsely. His voice was shot from dehydration. A window popped up in front of his vision, responding to his command.

Ray couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. He cracked up, his hoarse voice low amidst the pounding of the car windshields.

He was saved.
