Chapter 4: Mother And Son
Morning came.
Yukio opened his eyes.
Floating above him was Akari, her face close to his, studying him.
“Hmm. I see. So I wasn’t wrong. It manipulates two kinds of mana. Interesting. It’s almost like my core, just a lot weaker. But it seems to split the mana like light through a prism. I think this core could be both a blessing and a curse. You don’t have a father, either. That’s incredibly peculiar. I have to ask Akane about that. So that means you’re a pure blooded Suzuki. No outside blood mixed in. I guess it’s a good thing, you fit the requirements to become a member of the main family... I definitely have to enroll you in the academy. But I think I may have been right about my worries from when I left last night. This reminds me of Evan. Isn’t he doing something weird right now? He got all excited about the Ark project. And ran off. I guess he reincarnated, technically. Still, I think him and lime are twins now. What’s up with this? Nevermind, that’s you and Akane's business. Hmm. Your hair. Crap.... I’ll just dye it later. The world would eat news like you up, since our hair is pretty unique to our family. This pink red hair basically means you’re royalty. Ruling a country is hard. Well, I guess I did shove it onto Akane. Is that why she ran off? Hm. Oh well. Ah. How long have you been awake for? Sorry. And good morning, Yukio.” Akari rambled, almost exactly like the god, smiling.
“I am NOT like Evan!!! For the last goddamn time, you stupid voice! I’ll hit you!” Akari said, yelling.
Ha. Bring it.
“Mother? Good morning.” Akane said.
“Akane, I'd like to discuss enrolling Yukio into the academy.” Akari said.
“Fine.” Akane said, falling asleep again.
“Still not a morning person, I see.” Akari said.
“Grandma, you said something about enrolling me in the academy?” Yukio asked excitedly.

“Hm? Ah. Yeah, I’m leaving that up to Akane though. Hey, Akane, I have a small question.” Akari said.
“Mhmm?” Akane asked, rolling over to face her. Then rolling back towards Yukio.
“Well, are you guys like this all the time? It’s kinda concerning.” Akari said.
“Yeah. Yukio is cute.” Akane mumbled.
“That isn’t what I asked…. Yukio, does she basically just use you as a giant pillow?” Akari asked.
“Yeah. We both do, kinda. It’s comfy.” Yukio said.
“Mhmm. So, another question. Why?” Akari asked.
“I never really thought about that. We always fall asleep like this. Our village is kinda small, so we shared a bed. At this point it feels weird to not do it…. I do admit that from a normal person's perspective, this is rather odd. I try not to think about it. I’m pretty sure mom's the same on every part, except the last two......I have a question. You don’t seem anything like mom. Why isn’t mom smart, if you’re such a genius?” Yukio asked.
“Hm. Well, she takes after her father in the personality department. She’s…. simple minded, so to speak. Once she gets attached, that’s it. It’s that easy. Just keep sticking to it, no matter what. Through heaven or hell. Through thick and thin. Don’t think. Just hold on. That’s pretty much it. My Haruto wasn’t quite as simple minded as her, though. She’s a bit extreme, and she inherited a small part of her fathers’ personality quirks. And a few things from Lime. There’s two of her. One loves you. The other loves you more. Does she ever seem to just pause and get really clingy?” Akari asked.
“Yeah. She does.” Yukio said, thinking.
“Well…. it’s because of her personality. I guess to her, it’s more like an uncontrollable urge rather than another person, though. Honestly, I have no idea what the limits to it are. I’ve seen it in others before. Rare, but I have. Except….” Akari trailed off.
“Is there something wrong?” Yukio asked.
“Ummm. Yes and no. It’s gone past the point of no return. Eventually, she’ll just listen and do anything you say. Or worse.....” Akari said.
“I already will.” Akane said.
“Go back to sleep, mom. You can rest for a little while longer.” Yukio said.
“Fine. Wake me up for breakfast, then.” Akane yawned, going back to sleep.
"Yes, I'll wake you up when it's ready, mom. Grandma, are you staying for breakfast? You look worried. Whats wrong?" Yukio asked.
“I'm just a slight bit worried. That’s not normal. No matter how much I think about it. It's going to take work to fix this. At this rate her life may...” Akari mumbled.
“What?” Yukio asked.
"Nothing. Anyway, we're going to discuss enrolling you in the academy after breakfast." Akari said.
Yukio agreed enthusiastically.
"Then I'll go make the food." Yukio said.
Yukio hurried off to the kitchen.
