The Clan

Finvir’s pov

It was early morning when I left, and it was sometime around midday. I walked for what felt like hours until I came across it.

The village was small and the buildings looked like they were formed from the ground, most likely made from earth magic. They had grass and moss growing from them.

As I walked into the camp, I noticed that most people here were argonian, not wood elves " Strange" I mutter

I walked for a little bit before I was stopped by an argonian with deep red scales, two ram-like horns on his head, and blue eyes " Why are you Mer?" he said with a hint of malice

I replied, my hands up to show no harm. " I heard in town I would be able to find information about the owl soldiers."

The red argonian face relaxed and then he said " Alright, come with me, I will take you to Chief Nelix" He started to walk off and I followed.

We reached a large hut on a hill with a medium-sized stone door. The red argonian knocked on the door, and a few minutes later an elder voice called out " ENTER!", and so we entered.

The inside of the hut was the same as the outside. The floor was stone also most likely made by earth magic.

The clan leader was a very old argonian, his once presumably bright red scales had faded into a dark shade of red and the two fins that moved along the top of both sides of his head dropped a little. His eyes were red but glazed over, implying he was blind.

He was standing over a large fire pit, the smoke going out of the large hole in the roof, with another smaller roof over that hole to keep the rain out. Multiple different animal skulls were hanging from the ceiling on stings and lying on large stone tables. In front of the fire were two large stone pillars with a large swamp tree and its roots engraved into it, It was painted red.

Nelix was wearing a red robe with the same tree sewn into the back of it. He was saying something in a language I couldn't understand.

He looked up from the fire and smelled the air before saying in a deep, sage-like voice " Ahhh neposh, my son you have entered my tent with a stranger." he smelled the air again " A bosmer at that."

Neposh got on one knee and bowed before he responded " This mer claims to be searching for the destroyer known as Brown, he says he needs information."

The old master looked away from the fire and at us, and then he smelled the air again " He tells the truth" He walked over to us and said " Take a seat by the fire" He gestured toward the mat in front of the fire

We took a seat. Nelix put his hands on the ground and a few seconds later a crude chair made of hardened dirt was in front of him, he took a seat and started talking “ Drunantia, the goddess of nature has been rather displeased with how brown has been treating the earth, burning and pillaging."

" But why has Brown been doing this? Surely it can't be for nothing." I asked

" According to what the survivors from one of Brown's attacks have been telling me he and his owl-masked friends are looking for something called the obelisk," Nelix said throwing some salt into the fire “ The obelisk is an artifact from a long-forgotten time and something we witch tribes have kept secret, I do not know what it does, but Brown is willing to kill anything that doesn't give what he wants.”

I looked down at the floor “ And here I thought retirement would get boring.” I looked up at Nelix “ Do you have any leads on Brown?”

Neposh looked at the elder who nodded before he said to me “ We have one.” he sounded nervous “We are done here, follow me” He stood up, bowed to Nelix, and then walked to the door, I stood up and followed him.

Nelix continued speaking as we walked to a large hut “ Brown and his owls have taken some of our hostage and his holding them imprisoned in a secret base that our scouts have discovered, he believes one of them is holding out on info.” he rolled out a map of Windshire and pointed to a landmark of two large trees. “ Since you have just learned about the Obelisk and have told our secrets you must help us free our brothers and sisters.”

I looked at him and chuckled “ Well I don't work for free so you better have a price.”

He looked at me in disgust and said “ Of course ugh, how about a favor, will that be enough for you, Mer?"

"of course." I replied, "When do we begin?"

"in a few hours, when the sun is at its highest," Neposh said as he left the hut.

I didn't respond to him, instead, I lay down on one of the cots, heard my back pop loudly, and mumbled "damn, I am old."
