Prologue - of the First Creator, gods...and creators

Once upon a time the First Creator grew lonely, so high above all his creations and thus created the gods.

Unfortunately, as the gods were still below him his happiness didn't last. He was still high, high above them since each was limited in their power.

So in his desperation he chose the most worthy, those with admirable honor and not a single fault to become his equals. Being absolutely honorable and showing their gratitude they were dutiful children. They followed all of his examples, learned from him with reverence and gratitude and created their own worlds in his Image.

They were good students and admirable servants who forever placed him before themselves.

Or, in other worlds, put themselves below him deliberately.

Now, being attentive and intelligent readers you probably get where this is going.

Right.

The First Creator still didn't have any equals and, since his own judgment had proven kind of subpar in getting what he wanted he made the lottery and pulled random souls out of his creation. And by random I do mean random.

Then he gave them the exact same powers he had.

Well, to put it bluntly...among those six he chose...he got me. A 21 year old student of economics with a light addiction to games that revolved around building cities, empires and occasionally playing with a handful of people to control their actions directly and get them to go to school or work, marry and have kids.

Well...that and a few virtual reality games.

Maybe I should start from the beginning...

When I looked at the most recent drop, a sinple copper ring, I pondered whether I should use one of the cheaper enchantments on it and risk breaking it - but sell it for a decent price to some beginner - or just sell it as it was. Rings weren't that common so it might be a good deal either way.

It was getting kind of cold though so I decided against trying anything just then and started walking towards the exit of the cave I'd just explored. Kind of a disappointment, really. There were just two rooms and a couple worms inside. Though why the developers thought rings belonged into the stomach of an earth worm in the middle of a mountain was a mystery. If it was me they'd just drop...oh, maybe shards of semi-precious stuff like quartz. Maybe occasionally a bit of ore or something that they might have eaten somewhere down there while digging through the rocks.

So I set my foot down on the soggy, muddy cave floor and it turned dark. Loorking for my foot I found it gone.

Fucking blackout.

With a groan I reached for the eject button, but that was gone, too.

Just as I was about to freak out I...okay, I did freak out because I realized that there was NO HAND EITHER.

-5 minutes later -

Once I realized that screaming and hitting things or asking questions were very futile things to do without lungs, a body or a mouth I got quiet, though I do have to admit that I was still freaking and cursing whatever developer had failed to find this bug in the system. I mean, seriously, I was caught in VR! In a dark nothing, while my body was beyond my reach.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"Eject!" I demanded, well, thought, but nothing happened, just like the first few hundred times I'd tried anything from 'Get me out of here or I'll sue your ass off' to begging pitifully. I swear, I'm never going to climb into one of those pods again.

Since my last attempt had failed, too, I just sat there, hoping that my roommate would notice that I hadn't left the stupid thing to cook. Since it was my turn I was willing to bet she'd come to drag me into the kitchen asap. I'd do the same, after all. But after what seemed forever there was still no angry roommate, probably because time just seemed to crawl for me and it hopefully hadn't been all that long... I definitely would sue those corporate idiots. Imprisoning someone in a black space against their will was illegal after all. Them boing a rich company I might not even need my degree in the end...maybe this wasn't all that bad after all if I could get them to pay through their nose for it...

After ages spent in the black space there was a white light all of a sudden. The white light turned into a letter.

Kind of curious I started reading.

"Congratulations!

If you sign this you will become the ninth creator with all powerful might and all.

No, you can't refuse.

Yes, you will be immortal.

Yes, you're going to be as powerful as I am, the most powerful being and the First Creator, origin of all and so on.

Yes, you can make your own universe though I'd suggest you start with one world.

No, you can't interfere with other creator's universes. Well, you could. The others would probably start messing with yours if you did it without permission and you would regret it. You would.

If you have anymore questions please ask either Soriel or Nanael, talk to me again when you've finished your first world. And no, I'm not going to teach you.

Yours,

First creator.

Now sign here:

"

Oh-kay. Apparently this creator guy had some screws loose, probably a weirdo hacker. So maybe I wouldn't get my big, rich case with the VR companies. Though I thought there was something about keeping the users safe from harm while using the game in the laws...

Either way, if I just stayed in this black space I'd go mad so I...how the heck am I supposed to sign anything without a pen, or arms for that matter?

I clenched my fists and was about to start screaming when I realized that I had just clenched my fists. Hey, I had fists!

So, since I still lacked a pen, I pushed my thumb against the free space next to the sign here order.
