The Beginning

On the fateful morning of the first of March, 203X, you were driving home from your night shift at a large tech company. After merging onto the highway, you speed up, to the speed limit. However, unnaturally tired, you start to fade away at the wheel, passing out not a kilometer after merging.

You never return to consciousness. You're in a coma, predicted never to wake again. And, even if you did, and even with the wonders of medicine, you'd never be able to move on your own limbs again. There's nobody to turn to, nobody they can find to act as your legal guardian. You had no family, since you were an orphan almost from birth.

Despite the circumstances, you were working at one of the top 25 companies, earning six figures a year on a night shift. You inherited the best combination of traits from your biological parents, and used them wholly to your advantage.

And yet, you ended up here. Patient 879-E at the Third Great Wonder Hospital, cared for despite your lack of potential to ever wake. You even had it in your file that your organs and body were to be used for science or donations, whichever is more useful, however you're kept alive. You know none of this, however. Trapped in a dream, in a coma, you're unable to do anything.

A cold breeze flows over the hills, brushing across your skin. You open your eyes groggily, as if waking up from a day of sleep, finding a dark starry sky staring back at you. You're under a tree, or at least, partially. Despite the darkness, you can see in quite the detail. It takes several attempts before you can sit up, feeling incredibly weak for whatever reason. There's a few berries on the surrounding ground, ones you don't recognize. You glance back up at the sky and… find no recognizable constellations. The tree as well, is unfamiliar.

Where… am I…? You think to yourself, as you get up. Your mind feels foggy, your memories nowhere to be found. You know a spoken language, and that's about all. Your body feels quite light, and so you take a moment to examine yourself, gleaming a few facts:

One, you're not just human: there's a limp fluffy tail hanging from your tailbone, and fluffy ears atop your head. You still have human-like ears as well, though those too are somewhat elongated. Your hair and fur are a similar color, a dull gray with the occasional white hair.

Two: you're definitely a woman. Your chest isn't very noticeable, but the rest of your body is somewhat unnaturally feminine, at least from what you could find from examining your skin and body. Having no way to examine your face, you leave that for later.

And three: you're wearing clothes. Well, rags. Cloth strips sown together to create a very primitive shirt, and pants made with a similar technique. You also have wraps around your feet, to help protect from nature you guess.

After you're done, you look around, memorizing your surroundings. You're in a hilly area. The lower regions of the hills are covered in forests, however there's few on the hills themselves. You're atop one such hill, under the lone tree at its peak. You look towards a soft glow on the horizon, likely to be east. Using that as a reference, you situate yourself. There's smoke to the north, and dense woods in all other directions… smoke means fire, and potentially some kind of civilization.

You start to walk, finding your fatigue quickly lifting. After a while, moving feels quite easy, however you're not sure how long you'll last without food or water.
