First Contact

Walking through the woods, you find yourself relaxing. The noises of nature, even in the current relative darkness, are soothing. Mostly insects and the like, however you do hear an occasional bird chirp. The ground is soft, but still pleasant to walk on despite not wearing anything more than wraps. It's a bit chilly, but not unpleasantly so. Soon, you even find a path, trodden into the forest over years of people walking here, probably.

You continue along the path, as it's more comfortable to walk on than the grass. Sporadically, you glance around, since you're feeling as if you're being followed or watched, but there's nobody there every time you check. You do spot a bush shifting one time, but a rabbit jumps out of it, hopping away into another bush. Quickening your step in case it turns out to be _something_, you take care to not trip over anything.

“Hey. You.” A male voice suddenly says from behind you, sounding a bit accusatory, causing you stop mid-step and freeze up, feeling fear for the first time. Turning to look at him, you find someone with similar features to you, except with white fur, and red eyes.

He watches you, and when he doesn't hear a response, he speaks again. “Hello?”

You blink, then try to speak. “H-hi?” Your voice comes out quietly, sounding a bit on the younger side. It's hard to think properly, and you sound unsure.

“What're you doing in the woods this early, young kit?” He asks. “It isn't safe for you to be wandering around here.” He gets closer.

“I-I…” You stutter, failing to get any words out, fear deepening some… fear of someone stronger than you when you know nothing and can do nothing.

Before you have a chance to do anything, he reaches and grabs your wrist, holding it firmly. “You don't look like anyone from the village… who are you?”

“I-I d-don't…” You stutter again, still unable to get any meaningful words out, shivering. What good does knowledge of the language do for you if you can't even properly speak?

He frowns, examining you a bit more. “… I should take you to the elder. She'll know what to do with a straggler such as yourself,” he starts pulling you along, at a pace faster than what you can comfortably handle. He doesn't seem to notice, however.

The town is quiet when you arrive. The buildings are simple, with stone foundations and wooden walls. The roofs are either thatch or thin stone of some kind. A few houses have chimneys, which seems to be the source of the smoke.

Nobody's out right now, and most windows are covered up. The paths are simply packed dirt, stone only used close to houses, or their fences.

Arriving at a somewhat larger central building, he glances back at you then raps on the door several times in quick succession. He does it again after not receiving a response for a few seconds.

As he's about to go for a third one, the door opens. “Stop knocking so loud, Alife. People are trying to… never mind, come in.” She changed her sentence when she saw you. She's taller than either of you, and is also a similar creature to both you and 'Alife'. The only difference is that she has more than one tail… three of them, to be exact. You're sure there's a word for this, but you can't think of it.

He drags you in, closing the door behind you, and releases your wrist. “Found her on the outskirts, walking this way. She doesn't look l--” He's silenced by a motion from the elder.

“Shhh… you may leave, Alife. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.” She says calmly, yet she looks like she's glaring daggers at him.

He takes notice, and sighs. “If you say so, Lady Olres.” He turns around and walks away, flicking his tail.

She then motions you to a seat, as a few magical lights turn on in the room. It blinds you a little, but your vision quickly adjusts. She waits for you to sit… which you do after a bit. It's pretty obvious you're afraid, even to someone unskilled in reading body language.

She examines you visually, then flicks her tails as she approaches, sitting down opposite to you. “I'm almost certain now… your soul isn't of this world.” Her voice is quiet. You feel a sense of curiosity from her voice.
