Chapter 6: Immortality and Immorality

“That’s just cause you haven’t found it yet!” Said Phil

“Oh, hey Phil. Is it easy to find it, then?” Evan asked

“Nope. I was lucky to find my own partner in crime younger than most, though.” Said Phil, playing with a silver band around his finger. At that same time, he clutched a ring that he wore on a chain around his neck, the pair to the one he wore on his hand.

Phil smiled painfully.

“Hopefully you guys will find someone too. You’re young, the perfect age as my wife would say!” Said Phil, smiling happily, a fond memory flashing in his mind. A memory of better times, he thought.

“Phil. I can still help you, you know.” Evan said

“No. My issues are my own problems to solve. I owe you too much already, an eternity couldn’t cover half of what I owe you.” Phil said

“Phil-” Evan started

“It’s fine. Rather, is Kane alright? There’s quite a lot of blood.” Phil said, obviously changing the subject, his words spoken quickly.

“It looks hot.” Anne said

“Damnit...robot….get me...some...helgb….” Kane passed out again

“Hey, Evan, he might actually suffocate this time, there’s a lot. This isn’t from a nosebleed. I scanned his body just now. Somethings wrong.” Said Anne

“Suffocate? Not die of blood loss?” Evan asked

“Oddly enough, no. He seems to be producing blood as quickly as he is losing it.” Said Anne

“That is odd. Are you sure about him suffocating? As far as I can tell, these readings are indicating that he isn’t losing any oxygen. It’s as if he’s breathing. See?” Evan said, indicating a pulsating pair of holographic lungs.

“This is… odd.” Said Anne

“Damngig...eban….halb….gurgle...mee.” Said Kane

“OH. RIGHT! SHIT!” Said Evan

“This should do it!” Said Evan pulling out a syringe full of an odd, indescribable color though kinda a shiny blue, translucent too.

He injected it into Kane.

“Oh. That’s… kakh! Better.” Kane said, spitting up blood

“Yeah, uh. There’s another issue now though.” Said Evan

“Oh, shit. You used a sterilized needle right? You didn’t inject that into rats did you?” Kane asked

“I’m not stupid. But I made you immortal. I was gonna ask you later if you wanted it, but I didn’t really have a choice. So… you can’t die and will be stuck looking your age forever, since it’s a direct injection. Sorry, I know you always said you didn’t want it.” Said Evan

“Great. Now you remember our conversations about immortality….wait….” said Kane

Kane spent about an hour sitting down, thinking. He was trying to process something.

Evan left and made a microwave pizza and got a soda.

“YOU MADE ME IMMORTAL!?!?” Kane screamed as Evan walked back in

“Ah!!” Evan said, spilling some of his soda.

“Damnit Kane, I always tell you not to yell randomly. Also yes” Evan said, wiping off sprite stains from his sweatpants and lab coat.

“Since when were you able to do that?!?” Kane asked

“Wait, I thought we had talked about this before, ages ago. You had told me no back then when I asked.” Said Evan

“I didn’t know you were actually able to do it! I thought you were KIDDING!” Kane yelled

“You do know who you are talking to right? How many years have we been friends for?” Evan asked

“Oh. You aren’t joking. You..aren’t… joking are you. This is different from the magic stuff, Evan. I mean, the reason I didn’t want to be immortal is, well.... I guess there isn’t one anymore. Anyway, I’m still here so I might as well just lay back like this forever, eh?” Said Kane. He had given up thinking. That was Evans' job. All he needed to do was fix stuff up. While he couldn’t think up stuff like Evan could, he was able to figure it out through schematics, and could take the rough prototypes that were clunky, and refine them.
