"Hey wake up, Its time for lunch"

The mayor woke me up since it looked like the time for lunch.I stretched my hands for a while and then joined the mayor in the hall.

"So what's for lunch?" I asked

"Nothing special, Its just potato stew and rice "

"No problem, its more than enough"

After that we both started to eat.Truth to be told I didn't expect the food to taste good but to my surprise it tasted delicious.Then the mayor excused himself after he finished eating since he had some work to do in the community hall.Work... my ass, I am betting that he is going to watch the television since it has been fixed.

Well after i finished eating, I started to glance through the books present in the room hoping that I could form sort of general idea about this world.I mean at one side there is technology then on the other side there are monster, elves and a fuckin island which is floating on the damned sky.

--------- Start of history-------

After looking through many books, I learnt many things.Firstly the name of this world is called as Ellon. And the thing is it looked like they have only explored about 40 percent of the world.When the humans started to explore areas in search of new settlements and resources they had encountered the monsters which used magic.

The humans with their primitive weapons at that time could not defeat the monsters and thus they were pushed back.So after some decades they killed the monsters with the helps of newly improvised weapons which were made from iron smithing.

On examining the monster's corpse they found that a stone which looked like some kind of precious stone was inside.And it looked like the color of the stone was different according to the monsters.But nobody understood the value of those stone until one day a researcher figured out their use.

He put forward a theory that these monsters have an energy, which he named as mana,  present in their body which allows them to create the reaction called as magic.And when they are killed these mana get solidified and then turns into a mana stone.At first people were skeptical at his research since his last research said that world is not flat but rather a sphere.

But many others who were fascinated by the theory tried to use the mana from these mana stones create magic similar to that of the monsters.At first nobody succeeded but in another few years time their efforts started to bear fruit as they figured out a way to fuse the mana stones into the weapons.And they even classified the types of magic that could be used according to the mana stones.

* Red Mana stone   -    Fire Magic

* Blue Mana stone  -    Water Magic

* White Mana stone  - Ice Magic

* Silver Mana stone -   Lightning Magic

* Yellow Mana stone -  Earth Magic

All the people who knew about this new discovery were excited since this made it possible for them to use mana stones.And also due to this new discovery the monsters which required dozens of peoples to defeat were now killed with ease by a single man equipped with a weapon fused with mana stones.This also made it possible to explore more places in all direction.

So people started to move and look for places to settle according to their wishes.These people who migrated to different places created settlements and started to live utilising all the resources around them.And the transport between these settlements was made easy after the discovery of the wheels.

Thus the civilisation bloomed slowly as people started to trade between the settlements which further accelerated the growth.Slowly new advances were made in many field which started to improve their lifestyle.One fine example of this was in the field of medicine since new researches cured many diseases which were said to be incurable before.

A new break through was made in the field of magic after a few decades.Many people believed that there is a possibility that the energy called mana was also present in the body of the human beings.So they were trying to use the innate mana to create the magic but they failed since they could not figure out, how to control the mana which led to many deaths.

Finally they figured out a way on bringing out the mana by creating magic spells.The mana inside the body of the user will be called upon to create the magic according to the magic spells.They categorised the spell into two types.

* Dark Magic - Destruction

* Light Magic-  Protection

This new breakthrough further increased the growth level of cities and many kingdoms were created.And when these kingdoms started to explore new places so as to expand.They encountered the elves who were superior in technology as well as magic.This started a war between the elves and the humans but the war ended with the elves victory. Thus all the human kingdoms were forcefully incorporated into the elven country.

But after a century the new elven queen freed the human kingdoms from elven rule.And the human kingdoms also started to prosper due to the knowledge and technology which they obtained while they were under the elven rule.And now after a few more centuries the humans  have grown to the level so as to hold their ground against the elven country.But no war was started between either of them since both sides know that the price to pay would be too large compared to the benefits.So instead they agreed to have friendly relations with each other.

Thus at the present century, the elves and the humans live together peacefully.And as a symbol of the peace the elves created the floating island city using their advanced technology and magic which was made open to the royalty of both humans and elves alike .So currently only the human nobles and elven royals live in that place comfortably.

'So its a city, but what a shame since I can't go over there'

But the possibility of using magic kinda excited me.But the only question was whether this mana was present inside me.

'Oh.... let me ask the mayor when he comes'

Then I started to use my mobile phone, searching for networks wanting to find whether it was possible to hack any network from the floating island.Since it looked like most of the inventions back at earth such as computer, internet mobiles are also present here albeit they are outdated by at least few decades.

I instructed my personal AI Thor present in my mobile phone to notify me when it finished hacking the network.Of course hacking a network was an extremely difficult feat in earth but I guessed that it could easily be done over here by the AI which was created by me.

Then I went out of the house to look around the town.Truly it was a small town but the people over here are lively since everyone greeted me without fail.I mean the level of respect I am getting for fixing a TV is kinda overwhelming.Then it got me to wonder is technology such an amazing thing rather than magic.So to clear my doubts I went inside the community hall.The hall was filled with children and adults watching a movie.

A small girl came and asked me

"Hey mister, are you here to watch the movie?"

"No, I am here for the mayor, but why do you ask?"

"Nothing, since i thought of watching the movie together with you since I had no one to watch the movie along with me"

"Is that so, then I will come watch the movie after talking with the mayor"

"Thanks mister, its a promise"

"Yeah, its a promise"

And when I asked where the mayor was she pointed to his room.

'Excuse me, Mayor may I come in?"

"Ah yes...... come in, Is anything troubling you or do you need something?"

"Nothing is troubling me, its just I suddenly had a question which I wanted to find an answer.Do you have some time?"

"I am currently free, so ask away"

"Why is there so little technology in this town?"

"haha... from your looks, I was expecting some kind of complicated question but it seems I was wrong.Very well, let me answer you.In our kingdom both Technology and Magic are limited to only the people who have money and ower. So to buy a single tv all our town's people sacrificed their year's savings.

And my daughter could study magic only because I am a mayor of this town since the kingdom allows one family member to en roll in the academy if any of their immediate family is occupying some important position "

"Oh... is that so, thanks for your explanation, Mr mayor"

With that I walked away from the room and then looked at the children who were watching the movie on the television.Then the girl from before took my hands and took me to a seat near her to watch the movie

So from what I had learnt its possible that these children along with the girl could never have a proper life unless they enroll in the academy but its impossible for their parents to earn enough money to pay the admission fees since most of the people earn a menial amount of money from cutting and selling the woods from the trees in the forest.

So I decided that I would somehow help the children to enroll in the academy.The reason you ask? Its simple,Its because I want these children to have a bright future .And somehow this place feels more like home to me.The perfect home I had when my parents were alive.
