While Karl was waiting for Silver Eye to arrive the meeting with king continued. Nelson and the King were now discussing military relations, and this was the most vital part of the negotiations.
“Now let us begin with a simple and absurd request” The King began the talks
“Will you sell me your weapons?”
“No”
“It was worth a try”
The King and Nelson then laughed at the King’s request.
“Now let us talk seriously, I would like to ask for your assistance with defending against the demonic horde. Hence I wanted to suggest a joint defensive line encompassing the endless grasslands.” The King now talked in a serious voice.
“As you may have seen the Demons appeared on the Endless grasslands, that is no coincidence since it is where they always come from.”
“You mean they always attack from Grasslands? What about the Orc warlands? Can’t they just pass through there?” Nelson asked the King
“Yes they always come from the Endless grasslands, hence why Aleria has never dared try to expand and take it. We don’t know why but they always appear there.” The King said shaking his head
“And the most perplexing thing is that we don’t even know how they get there in the first place since the Mystic forest stand in its way. And believe me the creatures of the Mystic forest are friendly to no one”
Nelson was suddenly deep in thought. He rubbed his chin as if he racked he appeared to rack his brain over something.
“How often do the demons attack?” Nelson asked the King
“Not very often, but the demonic horde that attacked Larien village at the time was the largest recorded in recent memory, yet when you arrived they all retreated” The King replied
“What? Don’t the demons normally retreat?” Nelson once again asked the King
“No, the demons normally fight to the last monster, they never once retreated. Battles with them are grueling fights that test the limits of men.”
“How very strange” Nelson said as he was deep in thought
“No matter, I was already going ask you the same thing about establishing a defensive line. I’m glad we both thought of the same thing” Nelson said
“Great now it’s your turn, what else do you want out of this agreement?” The King asked Nelson
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“I would like to suggest doing Joint military exercises between our armies” Nelson replied
“Joint military exercises?”
“It is a way for the military of allied nations to learn from each other and deepen their relationship. Basically we can teach each other a bit of our tactics and skills. Truth be told I think this will be difficult because the of the vast difference in our fighting styles and weapons, but I am confident we can establish a midpoint” Nelson explained
“Hmm, I like that idea since we are going to establish a joint defense line anyway, a better understanding of each other’s way of fighting will indeed be beneficial” The King agreed
“Then I will send the General in charge of the army to meet with your generals at one point so they could work out the details of the exercises, which bring me to my last request”.
“Last request?” The King curiously asked
“Yes your majesty I would like to establish a formal earth embassy on Lancia” Nelson declared
“Embassy?”
“A building where I and some of my staff to live in while fulfilling my diplomatic tasks for Nelithea”
“You mean?”
“Yes, I plan to stay at the capital to continue my duty as representative of the Earth to Aleria” Nelson continued
“I see, but why?” The King asked
“Isn’t this like purposely placing yourself in enemy territory?”
“No your Majesty, this is a common practice among nations back on Earth. You see diplomacy isn’t just a one time deal, it is a continuous endeavor between nations as interests and relations gradually shift as time goes on” Nelson continued
“And besides, it will be hard for me to come over here from Fort Spearhead every time we need to talk, not to mention the planned mining projects, the humanitarian effort etc. It would be more efficient if we had a place in the city”
The King was then deep in thought, on one hand this was indeed more efficient but at the same time this was like drinking poison. He is allowing a foreign entity to establish a foothold in his territory, in the capital itself no less. But alas the benefits of this arrangement far outweigh the cons for now, because he knows this will be a deterrent.
He was not naïve, he knows there are spies from Naztec within his territory, just this month they have captured two rats entrenched deep into his city. It also the fact that he also has spies scattered across the Naztec territory itself in order to monitor their activity.
The presence of the Outsiders will keep the Naztec empire from trying to escalate the friction between them, since he knows that news about their recent endeavors must have reached their ears by now. All in all, he had more to gain than he had to lose, even so he could not shake the feeling that he was playing right into Nelson’s hand
“I see, then I accept your request” The King said reluctantly.
“But give me a week to prepare you a suitable place, I can’t just give you random place to stay. I need to at least make it worthy of you.” The King continued
“Very well, I do plan on returning in a week to formalize our agreements through a signing of contracts anyway.” Nelson replied
“Oh yes, we still need to put all of this in paper otherwise it will be worthless. After all a signed document is worth more than a promise by mouth” The King agreed
Nelson then stood up from where he sat and walked towards the King, with the King also doing the same. They made half way on the left of the round table and faced each other.
“Well, Your Majety Xavier. I hope we can continue to work together for the mutal benefit of both our worlds” Nelson said as he stretched out his left hand for a handshake
“Yes, may this meeting lead to a bountiful and deep relationship between our people” The King then returned his gesture
But just like the first time, they once again shared a firm handshake.
And thus the historic event that would later be known as the first Lancia convention has reached its conclusion.
